I did this while taking a break from some other drawings I am working on. Its a Clay Golem from FFI. Originally I was thinking it was a Stone Golem, but the stone ones are a gray-ish color. So I guess I did the wrong palette color. Thats okay though, cause I don't think it would look as good with gray colors.

Title: Clay Golem
Artist: Rujuken
Size: 590 x 625 715 kb
Media Used: water color pencils
Comment: I think I did an okay job of making it look like rock. The shoulder area is a bit flawed, but over all not too horrible. Glad to know I'm not hopeless with water color.

I think it's cool. It bears a strong resemblence to Thing from the fantastic 4.

Y'know I was having a little bet with myself about how long it would take someone to point that out. Guess I lost the bet.

You just cost me $5!!

That's your best work I've ever seen. Amazing coloring. Sure, it looks like a lot of other things - the Golem summon from FF V, the actual Golems from Jewish mythology, etc. Still a great piece of work smile.gif

Yep, golems of that design are everywhere (Baldur's Gate 2 came to mind first...cuz I love that game!). I'd actually like to see more golems that weren't so, ah, humanoid, but I guess, sometimes, ye can't go against tradition.

As for your golem, I think ye did an awesome job with the color and the shading; it certainly looks stone-ish to me. I could comment on the shading (there's something that seems off to me) but me guess is ye know more than I do in that area.

Unless ye wanna hear it, of course... wink.gif

I like the colors you used, and I think it still looks like rock. It might be pretty with greys, but I agree that the warm colors are probably better all-around. This is really beautiful. I especially like how you made parts of the stone appropriately shiny.

Being someone who draws an awful lot but isn't very good, it makes me jealous to see someone who outstrips me in every concievable way. Jealous; jealous and impressed. Every new piece of art you submit seems untoppable, but you've managed it again. I know I should probably offer advice or something, but I'd feel kinda foolish offering constructive criticism to someone of pretty much proffessional standard.

Any criticism is welcom, Galsic. And good eye, the shading is slightly off in my opinion.

Mimic, I know that jealous feeling. I often get jealous of what Kame and Hikaroo are capable of. But that jealousy is what drives me to improve myself, so I don't consider it a bad thing. Don't worry about it much. I sucked at drawing from my imagination 5 years ago. Really sucked. I look back at some of the things I drew back then and I am terribly embarassed. It just depends on how long you've been drawing and how much.

You guys seem to be rather impressed with this. I think it looks rather good as well, but the amount of work I put into it doesn't match up to what I normally have to go through with other pics. I think that has something to do with the media I used. The water color pencils make blending and combining the colors so much easier.

Okiedoky smile.gif .

Like I said before, awesome pic (probably couldn't have done better, meself), but upon closer inspection, I've come to conclude that your light source is coming from two directions. In both cases, the source is generally coming from its right side, however, the heavy shading on its chest, particularly the shade from its head (it is from the head, right?) seems to suggest that the light source is coming from behind. On the other hand, the lighter shading on its bicep and ab area and, more importantly, the light reflections, suggest that the light source is coming from the front. Perhaps ye noticed this already?
