First of all, greetings. I'm new here, so I hope a question like this hasn't come up recently. It doesn't look like it has...

I bought a little book recently, one of three NTT-published strategy guides for FFVI - In translation the name is Final Fantasy VI Creation Data Collection. Does anyone around here have this book, or know of translations from it?

Because if there aren't any, I've started on it. I freaked out when I realized how enlightening the data in this little book is. I only wish it was 3 times it's size and encompassed the whole game.

Oh, really? I've never heard of it. How detailed is that thing? Monster stats? Chest contents? What?

The 3 books, in order of release I think, are Creation Data Collection, Complete Capture (Strategy) Collection, and Basic Knowledge Collection. The middle one is a stragetgy guide in the typical sense, the last one has statisical data and the monster compendium, (I don't know for sure, though) and the first one was released before the game was.

The Creation Data Collection was designed to drum up excitement for the game and introduce future players to the characters, systems, and settings they would find. However, for being a primer it has a lot of information that I've never seen before.

From what I've translated so far I've gotten data on the relative ages of nations and events that occur between the War of the Magi and the Emperor's strike on the Esper World (which is the earliest datable event based on in-game information, I think). There are details on the mechanization of Figaro Castle, on the Emperor's rise to power, and on the formation of Narshe as an independent political entity, to name a few.

I can't wait to see what else is in here. biggrin.gif

Sounds awesome, keep us updated.

By the way, the earliest event-related part of the game was most likely the Ancient Castle - Right? That was during the War of the Magi - 1000 years ago. Just thought I'd comment on that happy.gif

What I meant is events that we can assign a definate date to. If the game takes place in year 0, then we could reasonably assume that the attack on the Esper World took place in -18, because Terra is 18, and she was an infant at the time of the attack.

...That was my reasoning, but I realized on second thought that it doesn't work because I don't remember anyone ever mentioning that Terra is 18 in-game. I doubt that it is possible to positively date anything in FF6 based just on evidence in the game itself, else somebody would have done it by now.

But Terra's official age is 18, so unless I'm missing something I don't see why things can't be dated based on outside info, i.e, what's not stated in the game itself but still canon.

Ah well, regardless, this sounds quite interesting. smile.gif

I hate to be nit-picky, but wouldn't the earliest in-game event be when Madonna crossed over to the Esper World and Terra was conceived? That would push the earliest to date to a possible 19 BFFVI (before FFVI), assuming that Madonna was pregnant for a full nine months (maybe half-human half-espers develop quicker).

Anyway, the guide sounds fascinating and I'd love to see a translation at some point.
