For a long time, I was confused about Shadow. I though he was just a homeless ninja looking for money. I beat the game several times thinking this. Then, as I grew older, I noticed several things.

Possible spoilers: highlight to view
1.His dog hates all strangers, yet, it warms up to relm immediately.
2.Relm has no father
Ok, so, this alone provided little more than slight suspicion that Shadow was somehow connected to Relm. Then, i finally decided to sit down and go through all of shadow's dream. Hmm, he was a thief. When his friend was dying, he went to thamasa for help. He ended up settling down in Thamasa for a while. Later, in another dream, it shows Shadow Leaving, and telling interceptor "Take care of the girl." WHo could the "girl" be?Well there's never even been a hint of Shadow's pasts relationships before he "killed his emotions" but there's never been much talk of Relm's mother either.

Now, why would interceptor warm up to Relm when everyone arrives in Thamasa, because he remembers her of course. Shadow had Interceptor take care of her for a while(with strago), most likely while she was a baby, as Relm doesn't remember the dog.

I think there's something Strago and Shadow aren't saying. Such as, Strago is either Shadow's father, or Father in law. The last bit of evidence points to the ending of the game if you didnt wait for shadow on the floating continent. In a different cutscene, they show his head looking down on thamasa.

If all else logic still fails, I just rely on my gut. Something tells me Shadow is Relm's father.

Any comments?

You're basically right. If you find all of Shadow's dream sequences in the game, then you'll know that

he's from Thamasa, he had a daughter that he abandoned, and that his real name is Clyde. I always figured that he was Relm's father and that Strago is Shadow/Clyde's deceased wife's mother. Another hint pointing in that direction is the fact that the Momento Ring accessory (called something else in the PS1 version, though I have no idea why) has a description "protected by departed mother's love" or words to that effect and can only be equipped by Relm and Shadow.

So yeah, that's the story. I wasn't aware that it wasn't common knowledge yet. Daryl/Gogo discussions tend to take up more room on the FF VI speculation front.

That is right, the most probable is that

Shadow is the father of Relm, though is never specified in the game on a direct way, some of the evidence involved in this is the Safty Ring ( memento ring), that Shadow can equip, his dog Interceptor usually bite strangers, but not Relm. Besides if you don't save Shadow in the WoB, and he dies, Relm is wounded in the Cave of the Veldt instead of him..(quite suspicious), and after you fight Sr Behemoth , she is carried to Thamasa and her dream is triggered ,which is like an Active Time Event (ATE) wink.gif of Shadow's fitfh dream....it happens inside Relm's house and she is with Strago and some dog, who suddenly leave the house...( to follow Shadow ), and Relm wondering if "Papa is ever coming back?"...

Well surely there is much more to say ...but the real question is how old is Interceptor, I don't remember well if he was in Shadow's fourth dream ( when he arrives to Thamasa ) and if he was there, damn he is and old dog.

Interceptor was never with Clyde/Shadow prior to the last dream (and as was already pointed out, it's obvious he doesn't join Shadow until then if you see the dream from Relm's perspective). So either he belonged to Relm up to that point or he was her mother's dog.

As for Strago...
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
If you return to Thamasa - after Shadow saves everyone from the fire and then takes off again - and enter the item shop (or one of the shops), there's a person in there who'll tell you that Strago ISN'T Relm's real grandfather but an acquaintance of her father's (or something along those lines). So that would mean Strago has no relation to Relm or Shadow and is just some guy Shadow (Clyde) knew and became Relm's guardian.

The game practically spells out Relm/Shadow's relationship without actually stating it up front. I used to think it was common knowledge too, but it still confuses a lotta people.
