Quote (Malshun @ 25th June 2005 15:16) and that is the "big deal" about aeris - they tried hard to make you like her, and while it may not have worked on some people, im sure it did for the majority T.T damn right I liked her, she was the one with the kick butt limits [fury brand, great gospel] And it was sooo interesting to see what would happen Possible spoilers: highlight to view with her and cloud going around and it was quite obvious that she had intrest in him after her old bf, which surprisingly enough is somebody that cloud knew and like....dressed like...and jacked his sword to kick peoples butt....and stuffs ![]() -------------------- ::Yawn + 15.3236:: There are things that must happen, because otherwise, it would defeat the purpose of its name, for it must happen. |

Has anyone mentioned that while she may not have needed to die to save Holy, Holy did not, in fact, save the Planet? The Lifestream did. Whether that was under Aeris's direction or not is arguable, but she was certainly there. Her death /did/ mean something more than just a sudden shock for the player. That doesn't mean her death didn't still feel sudden and shocking -- and pointless. But it wasn't pointless.

Watch the ending again. Holy grapples with the Meteor, and fails. Then the Lifestream flows into Holy and there is a bright flash of light, then you see Aeris's face, then teh credits.
My interpretation is that Aeris was somehow aware that Holy was failing on it's own and nudged the Lifestream into supplementing it with energy. -------------------- |

I mentioned that already, yes: Quote (Squall of SeeD) However, that said, it is likely that Aerith's presence in the Lifestream allowed her to somehow manipulate it, or convince those who were part of it to aid in thwarting Meteor during the ending, rather than allow it to cause the deaths of most, if not all, living things on the Planet. Her theme playing as the Lifestream rises to add strength to Holy in combating Meteor and then her appearance after Holy flashes and negates Meteor certainly suggests this. -------------------- My Final Fantasy VII Plot Analysis "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" — Edmund Burke |

Well let's imagine it was another character in FF7 that was murdered by Sephiroth, any character you like. Would any other character being knocked off have the same effect on the average player? I think the shock received would be about half compared to Aeris' death and there would be far less emotion.
If anyone else had died in her place I imagine people would have been more likely to think, "yikes!" and then, "Oh no they've got all my materia!" But as mentioned I think it's Aeris personality, innocence, friendliness and caring about people that, makes this so effective to most players. -------------------- 'Let that be a lesson to all oppressive vegetable sellers.' |
