Who here, when fighting zeromus, has actually managed to steal the dark matter from his first form? I tried for ages but gave up and used the crystal to change him, then, i proceeded to beat the crap out of him biggrin.gif
P.S. Throw multiple excaliburs biggrin.gif
before battle, equip cecil with the excalbur sword, then during battle, go to item, select a blank space and go right up and select your weapon(excalbur)then go back and flee
go to equip, equip him with the sword, and lo and behold, 2 excalibur swords. deequip and reequip him.repeat. Heh.

I remember that duplication glitch, but since last time I played FF IV was about 4 years ago..I don't remember very well stealing his Dark Matter, but that is just a "Matter" of time, because he don't attack you. I practically duplicated everything that I could..and some times I liked to keep like.. Ragnarok 2, Yoichi 2...it just seemed cool..but thanks anyway. thumbup.gif ( I also throwed Excaliburs to Zeromus...by the way)

I remember not being able to steal anything from Zeromus before he changed form--maybe you can only steal the DarkMatter after he has transformed--although I didn't really try very hard...

One thing I have found in relation to this Darkmatter (done it many times on the roms) on the PSOne makes of the game, is that, it never damn well works. It may be a different case for any of you guys but I seriously stood there for the better part of 15-20 minutes giving Edge Haste and making him steal from his 2nd form. No Darkmatter, so naturally frustration set in and I used the crystal, lol.

Sigh.

He really kicked my ass too, lol, still won minus a few party members.

EDIT: Makes you wonder if they edited the item out of some of the versions on the PSOne, I used the (EURO) FF Anthology for this.

I stole the Dark Matter once (before you use the Crystal, if I remember correctly. I distinctly remember having all the time in the world).

The reason it sticks out in my mind is not 'cause it's rare as hell, but because the power went out literally a second or two after doing so. Never managed to get it again.

ooh, gutted. Yeah you do have practically infinite time, but you can't use magic like haste or slow etc. cos when he shakes it cancels it out...i think. I guess you just have to try, try...try try try again.

I've never stolen a Dark Matter from Zeromus before. What exactly does it do since it's in that last battle of the game?

It reduces the damage of his Big Bang attack. Quite handy, if you can get hold of it.

Right on. I'll have to remember to steal it next time I play through the game. Since Zeromus doesn't attack until you use Crystal, I'll just take my time and have Edge do his thing.

I have gotten it before, and it helped me out quite a bit. I was able to stomp over him without too much trouble.

I can't imagine anything in that game being stomped on without too much trouble. >.<

So, does anyone know if it CAN be stolen at all from him on PS version?

I've personally never gotten it, but then again, I've never really tried for too long at once... I dunno.

I tried once to steal it from its first form, and I got an elixir... And it took me an hour too. Friggin' thing.

Can we cheat a Dark Matter somehow?

It's supposed to be stolen from his first form.

It might've been deleted in the PS version. I've tried for over 20 mins, but to no avail.

The Dark Matter is in all versions; I do know that much. It's possible they decreased the odds of obtaining it, though I'd hate to imagine them being that sadistic. Then again, I've only stolen it once like I said, but have tried for 15-30 minutes or more several other times and never succeeded, and that's not accounting the PlayStation version, as I've never played that. It's clearly a matter of random dumb luck...which often isn't in our favor, dangit.

And as far as I know, it can be stolen from either form, but I don't believe there's any change in the chances. It's just strategically less of a hassle to do it while you can draw out the battle as long as you want without having to worry 'bout wasting turns and getting killed. Thus everyone recommends going for it then.

Edit
After running a quick search and skimming through the only steal FAQ for this game I could find, it's plausible that the higher Edge's level is, the better your chances of stealing. This is purely theoretical, as the author said, but he claimed to have tested it several times to arrive at that conclusion. Most likely it has to do with increasing his agility stat. So in short, if you wanna swipe the Dark Matter with minimal effort ("minimal" as in still time-consuming as crud, but possibly not as time-consuming), power-leveling Edge may be your best bet.

Thanks for the tip, I guess that makes sense, once you think about it... QUICK, TO THE EDGE-LEVELER, AWAAAAAAAAAAY!

Power-levelling works because Agility raises with level gaining. I heard it had to do with the difference between Edge's agility and the monster's. Cast Haste on Edge or Slow on the monster. I've noticed a big difference when I do it.
Won't work against Zeromus, because status ailments get knocked away by Zeromus every other turn. Edge has the highest Agility anyways, but you might want to try equipment that raises that particular stat.

I always get the DarkMatter but it seemed more helpful on the SNES. On the PS remake Big Bang just does the same to me anyway. Of course with Rydia's insanely high M.Def and the Adamant armor his Big Bang barely scratches her.
