Um, I can't think of a cartoon to relate this to but I have a corny, situational sense of humor. Needless to say, I don't get others to laugh often but at least when I do, they tend to laugh hard. I can quickly dry up any humor a statement had though because I tend to push my luck sometimes. Yeah, so it's corny, situational, usually bad humor for me. Does anybody have the ears to hear some of my corny jokes? He, he, he. I don't think anybody's laughing
![]() Edit Ah yes, I forgot that sometimes in good company I'll do some risky jokes as well. Only in good company though. This post has been edited by Tonepoet on 27th March 2005 22:12 -------------------- |

I have no idea what humour I have, and I'm certain it cannot be defined by a single show I watch. Especially not ones that on the whole to me, are obscure such as those given as entires to this poll (Never seen any of them). Basically, I think my humour is laugh if it's funny, but I just don't know.
But I rather like politcal satires and parody if thats any help. -------------------- "Only the dead have seen the end of their quotes being misattributed to Plato." -George Santayana "The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here..." -Abraham Lincoln, prior to the discovery of Irony. |

I laugh at just about everything, I find a lot of things to be funny if when they are not intended to be. Some things that do try for humor, are just plain stupid. However, I get people to laugh by a sarcastic comment (on rare occasions) or by what would be inadvertent slapstick comedy as I do tend to accidentally fall on my face in a humorous way more often than not.

My sense of humor's pretty, um, odd. I tend to laugh at the most inappropriate things (really inapproprate things oftentimes), or things that normally wouldn't be considered funny at all. I'll avoid giving any examples - just leave it to the imagination.
On the other hand, I'm always cracking jokes around other people. They usually turn out to be borderline vulgar, but somehow I never cease to make people laugh. Parodies and political satires are also high on my humor list. If I had to compare it to a show(s), it'd probably be like Beavis and Butt-Head got together with Tales from the Crypt and produced my sense of humor. Edit Basically, if it's sick, raunchy, twisted, sad, gory, stupid, corny, or just plain wrong, I've probably laughed at it and would do so again many times. My sister's kinda the same way, so maybe it's a genetic thing. ![]() This post has been edited by SilverFork on 28th March 2005 02:27 -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. I have an odd sense of humor, that I blame on the people that I surrounded myself with for the past three years. I laugh at a lot of stuff, and moreso I laugh at stuff that clearly isn't funny. My sense of humor is easily defined as immature. An example would be.
<MoogleGenocide> ZH <Zero_Hawk> What <MoogleGenocide> Boobs <Zero_Hawk> ROFL Then, there's also the stuff where like, a kid might fall off his bike, and i'll go into hysterical laughter, or a guy gets hit and I crack up. Scary movies, all scary movies, make me laugh as well. Especially the really scary movies. Everyone else is all "AHH" and I start laughing, does tend to get me odd looks in the movie theatres. The other part of my sense of humor, at least I like to think, is where i'm an asshole, through and through. But I love that side of me too. I'm always giggling about something. Laughter is the spice of life afterall. I think my story i've been writing defines my sick sense of humor pretty well. -------------------- This one time I punched a bear in the forehead TO DEATH! 1.
I don't quite think your efforts at 'categorizing' humor are very successful, at least with these categories...I would have done something like: -puns, wit, and wordplay -complete nonsense (e.g. random actions, like yelling "PENGUIN-COWS!!!" down the hallway) -sexual jokes -violence, gore, death, and killing -childish humor (e.g. chickens crossing roads) -geekish/fanatic-specific humor (e.g. nerd jokes, jokes relevant to videogames) Of course, this list, while more specific in its categories, isn't at all comprehensive, and has at least two categories which people might not be very willing to fess up to if they truly have such senses of humor. 2. If you're talking humor as in (the old terms for) bodily fluids, I have all four, to my knowledge. 3. I've always thought of myself as having three of the above senses of humor: wordplay/wit, nonsense, and field-specific. Observe the following: +Puns: I come up with a lot of these in speaking, although less so in writing. Most of them don't even come out of my mouth, because if I spewed them all out, I would nearly be regarded as obnoxious purely for my puns. Occasionally, I do allow the punnier ones to see the light of day, though. +Wit. Watch: <someoneelse> blahblahblahblahyourmomjokeblahblahblah. <otherpeople> blahblahblahyourmomblah, someoneelse. <someoneelse> No, see, your mom blahblahblah. * Time passes, even though people are still in the same room * someoneelse notices that she has voicemail on her cell phone. <someoneelse> Hm. Looks like my mom left me a message. <GMH> Your mom? After that, I usually just leave it like that, saying not one word more, and letting the effect sink in. +Nonsensical humor. A n00bie starts a spam topic on the forums, such as this one: http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/forums/ipb/in...?showtopic=5735 . Even if not for forum rules against useless posts (a.k.a. spam), I might not have posted in that topic, but I would quite enjoy reading the nonsense people might put up on there. Or I might just add a statement about penguin-cows eating half-dried cashews from a Martian laundry machination for the processing of handkerchief-weaving power tools. But I seriously get more of a kick out of reading other people's nonsense than creating my own. +Field-specific jokes. Observe: +"You know you've played too much Chrono Trigger when..." +* GMH celebrates Pi Day! + Code function notifyidiot(x) disp('You''re still an idiot, no matter what you input to this function.') +* GMH names a back room with a lot of pipes the 'Polypipide Hall'. +<GMH> Drink...soda......eat...chips......sounds complicated!! :PPPPP +Zell Miller, a.k.a. Godzella. Edit I should add, though, I have absolutely no taste for sick humor (gory, violent, sexual, etc.). Additionally, while I LOVE parody (and pretty much making fun of things in general), there's a point where some people compromise tastefulness and reverence and just go too far. Which is why I strongly dislike shows like Family Guy, and why Frye and Bender of Futurama are two more among my strongly disliked characters. (Seriously, though, Adult Swim tends to take just about everything too far. Edit Another edit, noting stuff that was mentioned by people who posted while I was writing my post: 1. I enjoy political satire, sarcasm and irony, lawyer jokes, jokes about people being idiots when drunk, and some jokes about stereotypical guy stupidity. I generally dislike racial/ethnic jokes, stereotypical girl stupidity jokes, blonde jokes, wanton gratuitous violence jokes, and sick jokes like dead baby jokes or bloodbath jokes. 2. I strongly dislike assholy attitudes. I have a pretty weird sense of humor myself.
Basically, everything is a joke. EVERYTHING. You tell me a funny joke and I'll laugh. Push a little child down some stairs, and I'll laugh. Actually, now that I think of it, I find tons of entertainment in other people's failures and misfortunes, but just to be fair, I laugh plenty at my own failures and misfortunes. I'll laugh just as hard if someone pushes ME down those same stairs...but then I'll probably do something horrible to you...and yet again be laughing. I really, honestly do find dead baby jokes funny. I laugh uncontrollably during "Family Guy" episodes. I thought "The Passion Of The Christ" was the funniest movie to come out, ever. I mean that genuinely, I got kicked out of the theatre for laughing. I laugh when someone randomly gets slapped. I laugh when I fail a course at school and when I get fired from a job. Hell, I'll laugh if YOU get fired and then I'll tease you for it, even if I got fired from the same job on the same day. I laughed when Possible spoilers: highlight to view Aeris died in FF7 and I laughed throughout the entire "The Ring" movie. Maybe I'm just sick and twisted, but I'll laugh at anything. -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |

Aristotle would say I have more blood and yellow bile than most and that I'm particularly lacking in phlegm. However I am fairly certain I have all four in somewhat normal amounts physically. But in all seriousness, most of my humor is situational with my friends that no one else could possibly understand. I do laugh at funny movies (from stuff like Anchorman and There's Something About Mary to Christopher Guest movies) and funny television (I am a huge fan of Family Guy and South Park, but I do sometimes laugh when I listen to my sister watch Gilmore Girls). Basically, I appreciate all kinds of humor, but the best kind is the kind that you can't explain. -------------------- |

Well, I have a sorta double sided humor. I love satirical humor, such as the material Rick Mercer often covers (Only you Canucks will probably know what I mean...) It comes from being a big social issues nerd. Being able to laugh about politics and world problems makes life a little more bearable. I really enjoy a good long humrous rant as well, a la Foamy of Neuroticaly Yours fame.
On the other hand, I have a really random side to my humor as well. I love things like Homestarrunner, or the Cactaur and Tonberry shorts on Newgrounds. Shows like Clone high and Family guy really amuse me with their off-beat, often random moments of humor. I can even spend a good hour or so entertaining myself with strange quotes such as: "Last night as I lay in bed looking at the stars, I thought "Where the hell is the ceiling?!" Or "Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes." So this only goes to prove that I have a strange, strange personality. ![]() -------------------- TURKEY! - (The only way not to get blocked for using Fowl Language) |

My humor stems alot from in-jokes that build on each other over time. My own wit is very reactionary, I can't just start talking and come up with a routine; I react to the situation at hand, and link it to something to another joke the person I'm joking to will catch, but not everyone else will.
