I'm including Terra and Leo in this poll; there seemed to be something special developing between the two of them.

Possible spoilers: highlight to view
That is, until Kefka murdered him.

My favorite is the Maduin/Madonna romance. It was beautiful and yet tragic, and it carries a very special message: "How will we know unless we observe for ourselves?" And putting the player in control of Maduin drives the action home in a very real way.

Edit
Other couples could include Ultros and Chupon, or even Kefka and Gestahl. That is, if romance just isn't your thing.

Who says there can't be romance between two men? Or two women for that matter, but I'm already treading on dangerous teritory here, plus all the possible combinations would make your head spin if we included gay/lesbian couples, so I'll just get to the point.

I voted for Daryl and Setzer happy.gif. I was very close to voting Terra and Leo (It's really hard not to see something strong between them.) But I was truly touched by Setzer and Daryl's relationship, seeing as it's so similar to my own, current relationship. They teased and challenged each other, (though it proved to be their downfall) as a show of affection. Poor Setzer. He really lost a gem when Daryl disapeared.

Shadow and Interceptor.

Personally I saw more loyalty, love, and a genuine bond between a man and his dog, than I did between anyone else. He really cared for that dog, and vice versa.

The Maduin/Madonna one was touching...in a strange sorta way. Still, the whole "love conquers all" was evident between the two who should be mortal enemies.

Honorable mention goes to Shadow and Interceptor. Not a romantic relationship, but a bond that puts some of the romantic relationships in many games to shame. Almost like Interceptor, as Shadow's "partner" and only confidant, was the new Baram or something.

The Kefka/Light of Judgement relationship was also a beautiful thing.

...

...Yeah.

How about the brotherly bond between Edgar and Sabin? That scene with both of them at Figaro is still one of my favorite scenes in the game.

Lopcke and Celes. Unlike the most of the other relationships listed, (didn't really think of "other" too much, and any of the other "romantic" relationships, it doesn't neccessarily, (and probably just plain doesn't) wind up dead. While most of the others are tragedies, this is a glimmer of hope.

Non-romantic: Gau & Sabin
Romantic: Locke & Celes

Gau is the comic relief and Sabin has enough of a sense of humor to go along with it, and good results come out that combination. Yet when things get a little more serious with the meeting with Gau's father Sabin provides great support for Gau which is good because Gau is less than capable of handling that whole situation himself.

Locke & Celes probably had the most well developed relationship out of any in the game, and of course it was a good story.

My favorite relationship would probably be Relm and Shadow. I love the mystery to this relationship, even though it's pretty easy to figure out. I just wish there was more interaction between the two characters themselves besides that one scene in Thamasa. Beyond that, you really have to make the connection through the dreams.

Speaking of Terra and would be romantic relationships, I always thought they should have hooked her up with Edgar. They flirt with this when you first arrive at Figaro castle, and they have their own little sensitive scenes up until the Chocobo escape. But nothing happens after that. It would've been nice to see.

I think my favorite relationship is probably Locke/Rachel.

Although the interactions between Gau and Mr. Thou are pretty dang good.

Lola and the wounded soldier, isnt my favorite, but it is a very amazing realtionship. Her persistance and love for him existed long after his death. (which was sad) I admired the way the two longed to see each other and never gave up hope. Which I guess leads me to admire, the Cyan-Lola relationship. Cyan was so sweet to keep her hope alive! happy.gif YAY!! i love love! tongue.gif

The Cyan-Celes relationship is interesting as well......

I don't know why two men can't be particuarly close, but not homosexually so. It is common for comrades in arms to become brothers under times of stress and hardship, especially war. I certainly came close to some of my contemporaries that way.
As such, I can really appreciate the bond between Sabin and Edger, both as a brother through blood and as someone who became a brother through war.
But romantically, I would have thought Celes and Cyan would have made an interesting couple, given their innate distrust. But that would take something away from the tragedy of both characters, but especially Cyan. The man was just widowed, and he's an honorable man; he would feel taking another lover to be betraying his late wife.

Mine has to be between Ultros and Relm.

It's simple; that crazy octopus has been trying to off you for so long, yet just one minor scolding has got him calling himself 'Uncle Ulty' for Relm, not to mention letting her draw his portrait (Which fills everyone else with sheer terror). There's some sort of bond there...

You know, I seriously considered putting Ultros and Relm into the options for the poll. I love how Terra tells Ultros that if he hurts Relm, she'll never forgive him!

Another interesting case study is Kefka and Leo. While they're not exactly friends, they have a very intriguing relationship.

And then there's Umaro and Mog. As it says in the Caves of Narshe character descriptions, you've got to watch out for a Moogle who can boss around a Yeti.

Can't forget the Chadarnook demon and the Chadarnook woman ...

Hehehe, Edgar and Terra sorta have some sort of relationship. But, I was about to vote for Celes and Locke. When Locke saves the day at the opera. tongue.gif

Mog & Umaro. They lived in a cave together and Mog seems to be the only one that can understand Umaro. Not only do they supply comic relief, but they're a devastating duo in combat...even though you can't control either of them when they're at their best. Plus, they're the only non-human characters you can have on your party (I'm giving Gogo the benefit of the doubt).

Wow nice dispute with the whole Terra/human/mog/umaro thing! happy.gif

I was gonna mention....what about Katrin and uh.....shoot i cant remember his name....I felt bad for them, they kind of had a rough time with their relationship considering the end of the world came when they just started falling in love.

Another I thought of was Cyan and Elaine (?) (wow I'm bad with names) They seemed every romantic, when she was calling him my love and all that poetic stuff she'd say to him. And Cyan with Owain......tragic what happened there, he cared for his son so much

Male/Female couple: Maduin and Madonna. They had the most symbolism. A human and an esper... it's more shocking than a black person and a white person (African American and European American. Sorry. I get riled up about political correctness), but I still think they're trying to say something.

Other: This is also my favorite. Shadow and Interceptor. !!!!! Yes. A dog and his master. Apparently Interceptor likes to eat strangers, and you have to remember that Shadow used to be a stranger. That's a pretty powerful bond. And I'll bet

that if Shadow had asked him to, Interceptor would have stayed with him at the end and died there with him.
Pretty powerful stuff.

I voted Daryl and Setzer. It's just tragic, Daryl's love for the sky and racing being her downfall, thereby leaving Setzer with a broken heart. Then, as it was said earlier, she came back, in a way, to help them.
