Wow--I was thinking about a novelization THEN a movie, but we're already here? Cool!
I'd love to see a movie made from this game, but here's my suggestions: 1. Try not to make it a cartoon or a computer animation. 2. Try to stick as close to the original script as possible. Good luck with Ultros. I think the most problematic element in this would be battles. You really can't represent HP loss/recovery and enemies disappearing in battle, nor can you really show MP being used when magic/lore is cast, or stuff like that. Somebody will have to figure out a way to include regular enemies without dragging along the storyline. Leonardo DiCaprio being Locke? Hmm...possible, but I've never thought of that. I'll be Shadow or Setzer, though. I wonder who'll play Umaro? -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. Very interesting, but the actors would absolutely have to be perfect for the role of the character. I doubt square soft will ever make a final fantasy with real actors being filmed. If they did make the movie, they would have it computer animated just as they did in Spirits Within and what they are planning to do in Advent of Children.

Narratorway has a good idea with Tim Roth being Kefka, but I'd rather see Christopher Walken. Christina Ricci would make a better Terra than a Celes if you ask me.
Anyway I think the story of FF6 is just too big. I don't think it could work. It's still fun to think about, though. How about Vincent D'onofrio as Umaro or Ed Norton as Edgar or Locke. Maybe Mira Sorvino could be Celes though I picture Celes super athletic. Gene Hackman as Cid? I'll play Gogo! Mickey Rourke as the voice of Mog. ![]() Hm.. I haven't seen too many movies lately. I can't think of any more. This post has been edited by Ejoty on 8th March 2004 01:19 -------------------- Get me off this Disciplinary Committee so I can play any FF except for FF8!!! |

Just imagine though, even if it were broken into a series, its still a good 30 hours of viewing. Even someone who considers themselves as much of a Final Fantasy enthusiast/guru as I do would probably go insane from that long sitting down watching a movie, or at least get some serious eye strain.

I agree with both Matt Himself and i90east. I don't like the idea of real actors playing being filmed in a ff movie. I would rather have it as computer animated. I like the idea that it could be a great series. The series would be better than the movie because you could expand on the story line making everything more interesting. Great thinking MH and i90east.

i say a CG movie, cos then you dont get people faking accents if the makers have the brains to get the people with the proper accents.
this is because it woudl be implausable and a bit fake to have everyone speaking like americans in an FF6 movie. so you get a certain type of earth accent for certian FF6-world area (Doma= Oxbridge, EMpire= Various from US to UK dialects, Figaro = french, etc...) -------------------- "Only the dead have seen the end of their quotes being misattributed to Plato." -George Santayana "The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here..." -Abraham Lincoln, prior to the discovery of Irony. |

The thing about a computer-animated movie is that the action (especially when people are just stading around) often looks awkward. Plus, computer technology works wonders on special effects. What we need is realistic (and very-high-quality) acting that shows the feelings and expressions of characters, and accurately portrays how they act in the world, especially in relation to each other.

That is very true Glenn, but you have to take in account that technology is always increasing. If they did make another computer-animated movie, the action would be ten times better than Spirits Within.

They could motion capture everything. If the movie (or series) wasn't computer animated, it would be just as hard to make the actors look like they're hitting monsters. Monsters would have to be computer animated anyway, so why not make the characters the same way? Besides it's the only way to make the characters look right. One of the more difficult characters to emulate in a movie would be Gau since he's so odd. Computer animated is the only way to go... right?

No, I don't think so.
First, computer animation tends to improve some special effects and the appearances of monsters, but decreases the quality of human images, and may introduce unusual things such as hair-color changes and insanely huge breasts (all of which tend to detract from the quality of any well-written and well-directed film). In any case, we've already seen the computer animated movies that come with the re-released FFVI; would you expect the moviemakers to redo or expand on that? Also, working with real actors and a real set while inserting some computer-generated images tends to increase the quality of the movie by making it seem more innately "believable". It would take more work, but it would produce a better movie. Second, using real human actors would seriously make the movie more life-like and realistic (since we are "assuming" an alternative virtual reality when we are playing the game anyways). Computer graphics usually work better for monsters (explains the terrible portrayal of the Cat in the Hat), but humans and real-life animals (such as birds and fish) are best shown in real camera recording, rather than computer animation. Third, just because some characters are quite weird doesn't mean you can't find actors with the creativity of playing them. For example, just because there might not be any mainstream actors who would be good for Gau's role doesn't mean there isn't anyone, and I'm pretty sure quite a lot of people (albeit mainly unknown) would be more suitable. Heck, if they can find an actress like that "Jenna" (I forgot her last name) who played young Ellie so darn well in "Contact", why can't they find an analogous actor for Gau's role? Edit: Remember that Terra's hair is supposed to be green. My sidenote here is to point out her blond hair in the computer-animated movies of the re-release. To me, it is square softs biggest mistakes. Spirits Within is Square Enix's first movie. The only thing that they profited from it was that they learned to use the graphics they had for newer games. Everyone I have talked to say it was a horrible movie. It just didn't match up to what I expected. There were no swords, no one specific cool enemy, and the main characters did not even get close to meeting my expectations. For the story
Possible spoilers: highlight to view It is about ghosts from a different planet killing people. They kill people by literally taking their souls. The main characters I trying to kill them all by using gai, the earths soul. You can probably rent it if you do want to watch it. It is a computer-animated movie which I did not enjoy at all. -------------------- I will be the mustard of your doom! |

Imagine that the've come to thier senses midway in production of FFTSW, and realize that it sucks and has absolutely nothing to do with anything concerning the FF series. Inspired by thier revelation to get back to basics they decide to make FFVI into a movie instead. And theyve hired you....yes, YOU to cast it!!
So, list any ideas as to what actor or actress could pull off which characters. For arguments sake, it could be either live action or completely animated so your choice might be influenced only by the actor's voice or looks or performance........and the actor could be alive, dead, and you can play with thier ages and stuff............enjoy! My first pick would be for Sting to play in a live action version as Edgar, ( thats Sting around the time when he played Feyd Harkonnen in the Lynch version of Dune )....hes got that pompus, hotshot thing going on there. |

Hehe i suppose ive opened the can of worms in Smashes head. Well I sortof have trouble Seeing this game turned into a movie. it would require lots of creative input. Like Choosing Parties, Which groups to follow, Like I dunno It would give a good excuse to form some of those" Forced Interactions" One of you guys were talking about. Hmm i see it as a computer aided animation project of sorts. with perhaps Joan rivers playing Mogs VOice, (lol"Oh Oh Kupo, Sabin those Claws are SO Gawdy"

OK, voice actors are easier to cast... let's see...
Terra: Milla Jovovich Locke: Val Kilmer Edgar: Mel Gibson Sabin: Seth Green Shadow: Christian Bale Cyan: Johnny Depp Gau: Robin Williams Celes: Cameron Diaz Setzer: Breckin Meyer Relm: Pamela Hayden Strago: Richard Attenborough Mog: Robin Williams Umaro: Some excellent animal roar editing Gogo: Sir Ian McKellen Kefka: Jim Carrey Leo: John Travolta Gestahl: Donald Sutherland Now, I know that part of Gogo's mystery could very easily be broken partially by having a deep, male, british actor play him, but Ian would do very good, methinks... -------------------- Wow. 1,000 posts. But now that you mention it a Jim Carrey might also be Acceptable. Im telling you Rodney Dangerfield As Strago ( even my own Grand Daughter gives me no Respect!)

Holy crap. I shoulda realized that someone mustve started this thread a while ago..........lets see, Ive read a lot of weird responses as to who would be Cyan..........Sean Connery is about the best Ive heard so far, but I was thinking of Toshiro Mifune ( remember I envoked necromancy privillages for dead actors). He was the star of many of Akira Kurosawa films such as Throne of Blood, Roshomon, and Seven Samurai ( he was the guy who wasnt really a samurai, but posed as one, you know, the one with the huge nodachi).

I've thought about this since my last post, and upon thinking about it, I would be willing to personally play Locke, Cyan, Setzer, or Gogo. I could play Kefka, but I wouldn't want to. But Leonardo Dicaprio playing Locke and Jim Carrey playing Kefka are nice ideas. For Cyan, you might want some big middle aged guy who looks somewhat oriental, and for Leo you want someone who's probably a young man but has a stern but compassionate look. (But he has to well represent outrage at Kefka as well. By the way, I've figured out how to do the Thamasa island scenario between Leo and Kefka, but unfortunately I need tons of special effects and actors who know some style(s) of martial arts.)

voices for a cg movie would be better than live action. i normally like keifer sutherland better when he plays bad guys, but i think he'd make a good locke. or maybe ewan mcgregor (sp?) allyson hannigan - terra Jonny depp - setzer Nicole kidman (american accent)-celes mel gibson - edgar (props to who thought of that) sean connery - cyan i think we all agree on jim carey for kefka... too tired to think of more. sdm -------------------- ?gnisufnoc siht sI |

I am, as well, pretty frightened by some of the responses here -
But hey, they're just ideas. Jim Carrey, though I can't stand the man, would make an AWESOME Kefka. He's in. Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp could totally play the brothers Figaro. They're both very deep, talented actors, and I've always wanted to see them in the same movie. Harrison Ford as Locke is one of the best ideas I've ever heard. Nicole Kidman needs to be Celes. Ben Affleck needs to not star in this - or any other - movie, ever again. Liam Neeson (sp? Qui-Gon Jinn for one, awesome indy actor) could be Setzer. But then, he could play a vegetable and we'd still like it. Patrick McGoohan, if he's still alive, could be Cyan. You ever see Secret Agent or The Prisoner? That guy. Sean Connery as the old Emperor. I'm almost starting to like this Jet Li/Shadow thing. Good thing Shadow rarely speaks. We need to get a good actor for Interceptor. I mean, a good dog actor. No CG. Gau could be the kid from AI. He's getting pretty good at this whole deal, see Secondhand Lions? Relm's a real toughy, because the young actresses always grow up or fade away. Can't think of one for her. I'm down with .. the guy from Demolition Man... as Leo. Prof. Cid needs a good actor. Maybe Sir Alec Guinness, were he still with us. Gogo could be Dennis Rodman. I think that's all I got for now. We'll come up with more, real soon ![]() |

I think Kefka could be well played by Matt Frewer. He was Max Headroom, if any of you remember that show, and he's done voice acting in a lot of cartoons. If not him, then Jay Davidson, who played Ra in "Stargate". With a lot of makeup, I think he'd be great.
Maybe Brent Spiner could be somebody. I'm not sure who; possibly Setzer, but he's a touch too old. Maybe a back-up Kefka, or perhaps Leo. I'm completely behind the idea of Ray Park as Shadow, because there's this really funny tendency for him to be in roles that disguise his face. He was the Headless Horseman in Sleepy Hollow (completely covered by a black cape), Darth Maul in Star Wars: Episode I (face makeup, horns, teeth, the whole nine yards), and Toad in X-Men (lots of face makeup). Shadow would be a perfect role in the tradition of making poor Ray unrecognizeable. I swear, the guy's gonna develop a complex. ![]() For Cyan, I nominate the actor whose name I don't know who was in a recent movie called "The Vampire Effect" that showed on a channel I forget. (Specific, ain't I? ![]() For Relm, I nominate Daveigh Chase. She was the voice of Chihiro in "Spirited Away", and she played Samara in "The Ring". She's about 13 years old, but looks younger than that. She'd do a fine job, I think. I agree--Nicole Kidman for Celes. Christopher Lee for Gestahl. Setzer's a tough call...Johnny Depp is a worthwhile choice. Possibly Rene Auberjonois, though he's also a bit old. Ooh...maybe Scott Cleverdon. Anybody ever see "The Prophecy" and/or its sequels? (If not, you should. NOW.) He was in the third movie, and played the angel Pyriel. Stephen Dorff, I think, would make a fine Locke. He played Deacon Frost in Blade. Harrison Ford, while I love him dearly, is also getting a little too old for someone like Locke. Maybe he could be Lone Wolf instead. ![]() Darn...I want Christopher Walken, Brad Dourif, and/or Michael Bell to be in this, but I can't think of anyone. How old is Leo? Because somebody mentioned an actor being too old for a certain role, but possibly being able to be a substitute for Leo--I thought he was a young man, probably in his mid to late twenties but I'm not sure...If he is a young man, we would need another young actor to play his role.

I'm surprised that everyone seems to have forgotten the the infamous actor who played the original evil clown -- Jack Nicholson playing the Joker in the original Batman movie. I think Jack would make a superbly diabolic Kefka.
* Jean Claude Van Damme would make a good Sabin -- physical and deadly martial arts. * Tom Cruise -- Locke * Jackie Chan -- Shadow These aren't all of my picks, but just a start. I'd prefer to use action heroes vs. drama kings / queens. -- amosender |
