I gotta question:

The privelige to assign yourself a custom title is often given (at other forums) once a user has accumulated enough posts, often a huge amount. Will you consider instating a similar rule, or do you think it would just be an excuse for people to spam?

Which is why I'm looking for a way to fake a custom avatar on my end, so I can put up my Washu avie regardless of CoN policy. come to think of it I kinda agree with L. Cully. Dark Paladin's "holy swordsman" title means about the same as paladin but less...cool, or something like that... *runs in fear if/when the mods glare at me*

I second the demand for custom titles once a certain number of posts has been attained, likewise with avatars. Let's face it, barring offensive material it hardly disrupts the flow of anything and makes us users more content. Why prevent it, if only as an overlooked possible feature or a means of simply controlling a user's options needlessly? The only issue I can see would deal with abuse, but if anyone is offended they could simple notify a moderator about the offending avatar/title just like with an offending post/thread and that's that. For that matter, the same can already occure with signatures, which hardly makes this any different of a situation.
 In its favor, custom avatars would help prevent situations where multiple people have the same avatar, as is currently the case (shotgunnova and I both have Leviathan as our avatars, for instance, and I've seen a number of other people in the same situation.) Perhaps monthly contests where the reward is a custom, moderator-approved title/avatar?  Edit: In reply to Master Zed, you can probably try to alter your hosts file. I'm not sure how the avatars are stored on the site (can't check at work; I'm on Lynx), but I'm sure there'd be a way to redirect them to a file on your HD... No, you don't get a custom title for reaching a certain rank, either, that just encourages people to post useless junk to reach that plateau.
