It's been discussed in the past. I think we're going to need a little more explanation as to why you're interested in the move. If you're advocating it, why is that? It's not often that a suggestion comes out of the blue like this, particularly not as a member's first post. So at the very least I'm curious.

Various security issues would support this idea, as well as convinience. There's no reason not to keep up to date with the latest versions of any kind of software, and doing so can often result in unwanted problems down the road.

OK, Silverlance, I'll be expecting your check any time now so that your contribution to me buying the latest version of this software is noted.
As far as security holes, I am not aware of any major security issues with 1.2. I (and even more so, Tiddles), keep an eye on security issues related to the site, and if there had been a security related reason to upgrade, rest assured it would have been done long before now. 1.3 has been out for over a year. If anyone is aware of any, I suggest they PM links to myself and Tiddles so we can review, because as unlikely as it seems ( ![]() So I ask the question again - not to be a jerk, but to make sure I have the full picture - what are the reasons that I should be upgrading when 1.2 is not to me broken on any perceivable level? Features? Security? Oh, also, I should mention again that 1.2>1.3 upgrading has been discussed before, a while back. I really can't remember the particulars of the conversation, and I really can't spare the time at the moment to go through the MBs of logs I have with Tiddles discussing one thing or another. ![]() This post has been edited by Rangers51 on 18th March 2005 15:08 -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

Hi everyone,
I have been a lurker on these forums for quite sometime now. I joined awhile back and didn't post. I rather enjoy lurking. I am not advocating upgrading IPB versions however I'm suggesting it. With IPB v1.3.x there are many new excellant features that can benefit many (if not all forums). There are some excellent mods available at http://www.ibessentials.com and http://www.invisionize.com for IPB that relate to Final Fantasy and could (in my opinion) benefit the community. And as I said, you don't have to pay for IPB v1.3.x - You can upgrade for free. You do however, have to pay for IPB v2.x if you plan on upgrading that far. Furthermore you're correct in thinking that there are no major security holes in IPB v1.2.x. Anyway, I hope that clears up somethings on why I suggested this now. I look forward to hearing from you again and thanks for replying to the topic. ![]() -M0nty |

The issue for us is carrying over the mods and skins we have successfully and minimising downtime.
I've made some diffs of 1.2 vs. 1.3, and 1.2 vs. our modified 1.2 and I do plan on working with them on my test board to produce the freakish hybrid that we'll be requiring. But I just have so much less time than I used to, and we've got so many great ideas to fight for it, that I can't really put a timescale on it for now. Thanks for the suggestion. |
