The party I start with is pretty much the party I have until the end. No of course when you get people like Agrias and Orlandu, I always use them which leaves Ramza, Agrias, Orlandu and two generic characters from the beginning. One is usually a powerful fighter while the other a mage.

I round up my starting team, strip'em of their gear and tell'em to go get new jobs.

Then I sell their junk, and buy new people ^-^

Why not just train the party members how you want them to? I doesn't make much of a difference at the beginning of the game...

I always sell them off so I can rename them to my liking and hire party members with good Brave and Faith. However, in both of my large files I kept one of the original Academy team that had decent stats and an acceptable name.

Why sell equipment and get less than their actual worth only to buy it again later on for identical Generic Squires ™, as well as sacrificing a few JP and XP?

By the end of the game, my party consisted of 5 monks with Attack Up and Counter. Even Orlandu cowers before Ramza's 600+ damage wave fist attacks. smile.gif At this point, even if I luck out and get new people with higher stats, what's 10-15 extra points of damage going to matter? If anything at all.

Well lazlow not to say your wrong but when you go into the hireing shop you can rename them, unless it's just to rename yourself. I dont know, but its there so someone try it, and tell me what it;s used for please.

I only go to the shop if they have Brave and Faith to my liking. That usually means Brave greater than 70 and Faith between 50 and 70, only because healing magic is so useful before you learn Murasame.

Oh, and Brave does make quite a large difference in dealing damage. The final modifier for a good deal of physical attacks (including Punch Art, Jump, regular attacks) is *Br/100. A Brave of 50 vs. a Brave of 97 (the maximum) means a difference of nearly double the power for a normal attack (50% vs. 97%). The same thing goes for magic attack and defense, except it's further lowered by using a modifier for both caster's Faith and target's Faith. In the late game I get around this by having only my serious spellcasters (Reis and one generic, usually) have Faith values in the upper 80s while all of my other characters have Faith in the 40s at most (I don't care enough to make them Innocent, but just to cut down on damage considerably). For healing in the late game I rely on Faith-independent techniques such as Draw Out, Punch Art, and Item.

I ditch 'em. They never come with cool names like Ahmed the Blue (which just barely fits) or General Tso...

I keep some and ditch others more often than not, but sometimes I keep the original party members. Other times I ditch 'em all to save room for ALL of the specials. My favorite way is to keep some and lose some.

It would be so much easier to keep them if they had customizable names. Namingway, where are you when we need you?

That being said, I always keep my originals. I dunno, I feel bad dumping them -- plus I tend to level up like mad in Mandalia Plains, so it's a waste to get rid of 'em. Rad, Lavian, and that other chick, however, I always send on missions. Doesn't everyone?

The poor things. ;_;

EDIT: Whoa, can you really rename them? Has this been confirmed?
