I think the effort is very brave, but do you realize what porting FF7 to another system means? Particularly one that has a completely different means of displaying things (ie, two screens)? It's very unlikely, particularly after the outburst of "wtf no more ff7 clonez plz!!!!" people have had when AC/BC/DC were announced, that they'd completely reprogram and redesign an old game when they could be producing new material. The effort, both developement-wise and financial-wise, would be immense, and the payoff potentially low given the response of fans when they pulled moves like this before.

Not to mention that FF7 was developped after a contract signed with Sony, as opposed to Nintendo.

I think it'd be more interesting to see games designed FOR the DS's dual-screen interface than molded around it, and showing off new material, storylines, and ideas. Rehashing the same idea over and over has only led to scattered interest and a large number of outbursts; if Square has a tiny amount of intellect they'll realize a fourth FF7 spinoff would only enrage their fans.

It depends on how loyal Square's FFVII fans are. Some might say "A fourth FFVII spin-off? Yeah!" Maybe I'm wrong...

Ehh.... Wasn't there already going to be a playstation handhld system? (Maybe there already is one out o.o) FF7 could just as esily have gone to that I guess.

For now, I'll just stifle all my hate for spin-offs and say that I'm against the petition and won't be signing. If there was a way to defecate on the name of FF7 even more, it would be to have another game made based on it.

I'm not too bothered about it being on a handheld, too small to see, etc, wouldn't be the same.
But if they could remake the game with better graphics and maybe have voice actors and stuff too that would be cool, say on the PS3.
And maybe do the same for some of the other final fantasies. I'm pretty sure they were considering it. Although I imagine a lot of people on this site may be against this idea.

I usually sign gaming petitons for ports and stuff but I don't really see a point to this one. I don't see why one doesn't just buy a PSX for $25 and the FF7 game for $20. It's a lot cheaper than buying a DS and a port of the game.

I think FFVII would be way too long for a DS game. But, III is coming out soon. I can't wait and it's the only reason to get a DS other than Crystal Chronicles on DS as well. One thing that I would love to see is Barret and Tifa on Kingdom Hearts II. I'm sure Mr.T and Natalie Portman would be great candidates for actors.

Yeah, I almost forgot about it. DS is great because I really don't want to go out and but a GameCube because in a few months it will be worth nothing. DS maybe for $120 used at any game store. DS is probably going to rack in more sales for Nintendo if it makes any major console like GameCube, which was the least popular. Definitely PS2 all the way. Xbox has good graphics and its console-only games are being released for PC anyways(Halo, Halo 2, Sudeki, Morrowind, and Fable).
