I was in the Colluseum fighting a Hoover to get a Merit Award. I had Gogo with me with mimic, tools, blitz, and magic. Suddenly in the middle of the battle he used a move called Spiraler which he suddenly disappeared and had 0 lifepoints.

I'm a bit confused, can anyone tell me what the hell this was?

Equipment:
Swordbreaker
Paladin Shield
Bards Hat
Dark Gear

Thanks,

Spiraler is a Blitz technique that kills Sabin/Gogo and heals the other party members a ton. For this reason, it is a bad idea to ever use Sabin or a Blitzing Gogo in the Coliseum.

Thanks anyways.

Tangentially related: Has anyone ever actually used Spiraler on purpose? It and Pep Up seem just horribly useless to me, and I've never used them intentionally once I learned what they did.

I suppose, if there was the rare circumstance where all 4 party members were at critically low HPs and couldn't caset cure (mute or low MP), then I might use it. But that seems a long shot, and never happened to me as I can recall.

Well, the only instance I can think of is the battle against Goddess. If you've been hit by Overcast and you know you likely haven't won the battle before the Countdown reaches 0, you're basically screwed. Even killing your own party members and reviving them leaves the party open to both Goddess' and Zombie attacks while fiddling around with Near Fatal party members.

Solution: Spiraler will cost you a party member for the rest of the battle, but Condemned will be healed along with what's probably full HP healing (you're not very high-leveled if you're seeing Overcast in the first place).

I haven't actually used Spiraler myself. Then again, there's a large amount of spells so useless you needn't bother yourself with. Among those are Exploder, Pep Up, Spiraler, L. 3 Muddle, etc.

Though I must admit I actually used Pep Up a few times in the final battle. It seems to happen every once in a while that my star character gets Zombified by Tiger while the battle technically isn't a threat anymore. I don't want to risk using a Revivify and then losing him/her when the battle ends, so I take the safe route and heal completely.
