Hahahaha, I'll have to remember that one.

I once named every single character in FFVII "Nanaki." It was outstandingly hilarious and, interestingly, never got old.

It's been Red XIII everytime so far, but no by choice.

I haven't played the game in ages, but when I realize a character's not using their 'real' name, I try and make it a point to use it next game I play. Problem with Red was that I kept forgetting when time came round to name him. It was very frustrating.

Oh good job for bringging back/UP a one month old poll... rolleyes.gif

As for the dialogue, it doesn't even change no matter how you call Nanaki.
How could he know how you call him anyaway?

The only thing that it actually changes in the game is Cloud looking stupid he can't recall who's Nanaki when he already calls Nanaki "Nanaki". Well, you know what I mean.

I am a strict fan of using the names the game has preset, so I have never actually changed the names on any final fantasy game I have ever played.

You might think it is boring, but I am not as creative as you think. eh.gif

For some reason I like to stick with characters nicknames or alias like Red XIII instead of Nanaki, Frog instead of Glenn, Faris instead of Sarisa, etc.

hey hey, I just go down the list and write whate'er the muse moves me to. And the muse moved we to write about the poor planning of naming Red Nanaki. Outside of some hilarious text boxes, it's never a good idea to name a character their "real" name, in my opinion, and it loses it's humor MUCH faster than you might anticipate.

I wouldn't name him Nanaki until Cosmo Canyon if there was any way to change the name of your characters like In... FFIV, FFVI, FFIX...

Well, I am mad agaisnt the game and not any of you because it was Square who made Cloud think: «Wow! there's a tatoo! Oh it's written XIII, then let's call him Red XIII okay?!?!».

Well, I most likely will next time through. I prefer Nanaki, though getting "Red" out of my head when I see him will be tough...

This topic reminds me. In Chrono Trigger, you'd have to rename over half your party for the "Nanaki" rule to hold. So you'd have...

I already named Robo "R66-y" eh.gif

Back on topic, I name him Red XIII because I'm sure he had a reason for not using his original name, just like I'm sure he had a reason for continuing to use the name Red XIII after Cosmo Canyon. If only I knew what it was. blink.gif

'Nanaki' sounds a lot cooler, and almost ANCIENT.

I know it is a lot better sounding than 'Red XIII'. Now that is just corny man.

If anything else, i would probably call him 'poochie' or 'GRALL'

I like to name him Nanaki, since I like the sound of the name better.

And I don't know that it messes up any dialogue in Cosmo Canyon, but it sure does in Rocket Town. If you name him Nanaki and have him with you when you go to try and steal the Tiny Bronco, he'll introduce himself to Shera thus:

"I am Nanaki, otherwise known as Nanaki."

I find it entertaining, anyway. XD

I would like to name him Nanaki since it is his real name but when they're taking about Nanaki I believe it would be stupid to see his name pop up twice.

Identity "From now on don't call me Nanaki, call me Nanaki" jokes aside, I prefer Red XIII

If I were him, I would use Nanaki with friends, and Red XIII to sound intimidating with strangers and enemies

I don't usually go for Red XIII and I have never gone for Nanaki, after playing FF7 so many times, for some reason I just call him Rex, don't ask me why I just think it sounds good

It's always RedXIII when I play. I almost always use default names on any FF's except FF6, like when I change SHADOW to Shadow.

Eh the first time I play through any of the games I use the original names, simply out of sheer lazyness eh.gif But whenever I play it through again, I use an entire set of names from a different Squaresoft/Square Enix game that has the proper number of characters to replace them

i.e I replaced my entire FFVIII crew with the names of the Chrono trigger team, and keeping the parts the same [Squall -> Crono Rinoa -> Marle Irvine -> Robo] etc

ahhh the nostalgia pinch.gif

The first time I played FFVII, I used the original names already given. The next time around I used my own name as the main character and took off the three I's on Red XIII's name, leaving him as Red X. Of course, for some reason, I wasn't paying close attention to the fact that XIII was not only the roman numeral on his tattoo, but symbolized him as one of a number of people who had tattoos and were experiments of Hojo's. Now that it sounds stupid to have named him Red X, as he was the 13th, not the 10th, at the time Red X sounded more appealing. Rather than being spoken as a number, I spoke of the X as the letter. It sounds much better.

On a side note, the guy says "Nanaki is Nanaki" no matter what you name him...it doesn't matter whether you name him Nanaki or something else.
