Found this software at another forum and decided to share. I'm sure most people have seen Terraserver, etc. with the storage of satellite imagery that you can view. NASA has released a standalone program that does a lot of the same, and it's pretty cool for free. There are several different views, though I prefer the black-and-white USGS satellite imagery. Learn more at http://worldwind.arc.nasa.gov/download.html and post your screencaps here (sized down, if you will).

Cool program Josh, black and white was the only one that seemed to get good detail up close. I wanted to spy.

I find this really neat.
![]() It is much more detailed than I thought it would be. The blue circle is my house. The orange one is our shed. If you look closely, you can see a rectangle behind the orange circle. It even picked up our garden. The green circle would be our pole barn. Now to look up other "neat" places. ![]() -------------------- "It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it." - Aristotle |

But it should try to get you to DL and install it rather than just bailing out. Unfortunatly it appears that most of the images of my city are greater than 7 years old, so I'm having a hard time locating the place I live now, before, and before that. I can show you a few things though.
The spot where my old house was built on. Apparently this photo was taken right before it was built...in 1997. PESH, my old high school. Notice the little lake there in the middle? It's incredibly fun to drive through. ![]() The place where most of my weekends begin. Sure it looks like nothing now, that's because the photo was taken before they made it a wet county. -------------------- "My impersonation of an ordinary person was flawless." - Neal "Don't cry because it's over. Interesting program. In my job for the government, I use some fun software that does similar mapping. However, our pixel resolution is a tad better on our aerial imagery.

lolz, so it like took me a month to like download this thing and um OK? Just kidding, I just didn't get around to checking it out until now.
The condo complex I used to live at The blue circle is where I lived with my parents and the red circle is my car. I always parked in that spot and my car is silver, so yes I know it's mine. The condo complex I currently live at Here's my little 1 bedroom place, represented by the blue circle, and the red circle is my parking spot. It's nice not having to walk a mile to get to my car. Cool stuff. ![]() This post has been edited by i90east on 31st March 2005 04:03 -------------------- FFXI (Siren server) Tauu the Windurstian Tarutaru! White Mage & Paladin |

Roughly how long does it take for the download just to start? I already did my homework, got a bowl of cereal, and replied to some other threads and the download STILL isn't ready. I know it's big but, just to start it?
Edit: Thanks i90, the google search worked better. ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by Racthoh on 1st April 2005 22:45 -------------------- This is my world: (Got my second chapter up, 3rd Chapter about 80% complete) http://www3.sympatico.ca/daniel876/homepage.html |

Okay, got it working best it's gonna get.
Where I live now. Nice place as far as I'm concerned, but it's got a few more spiders than I care for. Oh well. Least I'm finally living on my own. Where I used to live. Lived there the majority of my life. Small box is the house itself. Living there I hated it, now that I've tasted urban living, god do I miss it. Where I used to learn. Me old highshool. The reason I hated living at my old house. Place sucks and god willing will burn down again (happened once already by accident and they're actual proud of it...go figure). Where I recently used to learn (it's the small box in the top corner). They're big thing was that they were so close to Pixar (da big box on the bottom), which didn't mean a damb thing. We got to go as a graduation present, but it was very disappointing. They treated us...well I wouldn't say poorly, but they obviously didn't think highly of us. I can understand that...it's a tech school after all. This post has been edited by Narratorway on 31st March 2005 09:26 -------------------- |
