Before I got to the Fanatic's Tower, I'd heard a lot about the MagiMaster, how he was among the hardest bosses in the game, and some said in any FF. So when I got to the top of Fanatic's Tower, it was with a slightly frightened feeling that I picked up the Gem Box and strode outside to meet this fabled wizard.

Why, then, was he so easy to defeat? I know that his WallChange technique makes it difficult to know what spell to hit him with, but....why not use Ultima? All you need is a decent supply of Ethers or someone to cast Osmose regularly and characters at this level should have no problem casting the spell consistently. Between Setzer's X Magic followed by Gogo's Mimic I had four Ultimas being cast every turn, with Lock casting Reflect and healing and Umaro using Storm and his normal attack. MagiMaster went down fairly without incident.
I've heard that there's some special way to beat him, an 'easy' way, but can someone tell me what that is supposed to be? I just wore his HP down like any other boss.

Also, don't you guys agree that they should have made the Dragons harder? I've beaten 4 of the dragons so far:

Red Dragon walking around in the Phoenix Cave. (weak)
Ice Dragon in the snowfields of Narshe. (tiny)
Dirt Dragon on the stage of the Opera House (didn't even get a chance to attack me)
White Dragon in a chamber near the top of Fanatic's Tower. (the only one so far I've found difficult, and in fact the only hard part of the Tower for me.)

I know that there's Storm Dragon in a cave on Mt. Zozo and Blue Dragon guarding some statue in Ancient Castle, but can you tell me where the other two are?

I've never heard the MagiMaster as being some kind of unbeatable super-boss. Just "tough" when dealth with the regular way, mostly because his final Ultima will hurt a lot if you don't have life 3. If you can get around the Ultima, he's a joke.

Use berzerk. It circumvents the no magic rule. That's one way of beating him, though it's hardly necessary wink.gif

I guess I just heard from different sources (like my cousin for a start, and it took him four tries to beat the Whelk) I've beaten him anyway, so I suppose it hardly matters *apologetic smile*

What about the dragons?

Well the big deal with MagiMaster is that he casts Ultima on your party upon his death. That didn't freak you out a little? You are the man. Some people like to use rasp to drain his MP all the way so that he can't cast Ultima, but this takes a long time as he has tons of MP.

The dragons are way too easy just like the rest of the game. I agree with you on that one. There are two dragons in Kefka's tower.

I've always felt MagiMaster was one of the hardest bosses in the game, but then, that isn't saying a whole lot. The game is filled with bosses that higher level characters can kill in one or two rounds, and it took a while to whittle him down. Also, without knowing about it or always casting life3 on your whole party, the Ultima thing can be a pain in the ass the first time through. He's certainly not one of the harder bosses in the FF series, but then no one in VI is. I just think he's up there on the difficulty chart for VI.

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree. It's not the hardest game on Earth.
Having Ultima suddenly cast on me was...unexpected, but none of my guys died from it.

Hang on....Kefka's Tower? Oh wait, I see. I was gonna say what's the point of getting the most powerful Esper in the game this close to the end of the game, but you can Warp out of the Tower, right?

Cheers then i90east, I got me some dragons to kill cool.gif

If you want to defeat the dragons in Kefka's tower DO NOT--I REPAET not use a phoenix down or something that sounds like revivy ( i don't know how to spell it) on the one that looks like a skelleton cause this wile heal him bigtime pinch.gif

They may be monsters, but they're sea monsters. What're they gonna do? Flop around on deck and suffocate at us threateningly?

Revivify? The item that cures Zombie. Right, I'll remember that.

There is one certain tactic I favour above any other one...

Simply cast Golem on your party, and voila - your party suddenly becomes immune to any kind of physical attack. And then there´s this Berserk magic - cast it on MagiMaster and you won´t have to fear magic either, resulting in a MagiMaster in constant use of physical attacks, which are guarded by Golem DURING THE WHOLE BATTLE! biggrin.gif

not quite. it only blocks the max (or current, I forget which) hp of the caster, so after a while it will wear off. not that magimaster has strong attack power though...

yeah, warping out of kefka's tower is no problem, only the crusader esper's spell effect is a bit... i dunno, i just don't like being hurt as well as the enemy.
the dragons are seriously underrated, i thought they'd be tougher than that, and i thought they'd look better too... (the only cool-looking one is the one in the basement of the underground ruins, blue dragon i think...) wink.gif eh.gif

Yes... this world is filled with both Light and Darkness, though how long this delicate Balance will last I don not know.

I just killed the Magimaster, with no one above level 40. Gogo, Celes, Terra, and Gau all rasped like crazy, because there's no way at this level to have the hp to survive ultima. I think I'm going to play through FFVI again and try to beat it at the lowest level possible, while still getting 100%. For my current game, however, I'm going to try to beat it at level 45.
