I've seen a lot of people swear by their effectiveness around here. I've always been a little intimidated by the job, although I never made a real effort to use one. Could someone who loves the math users hit me with some tips/tricks to make a Calculator effective? I'm playing through on the PSP, if that affects anything.

Calculators are one of the worst classes in the game, period. However, the Math Skill ability is one of the best skills in the game, period. The trick is to just learn all eight parameters in the Math Skill skillset and experiment using Math Skill on a class with high MA (either Reis or Black Mage) and use each battle's conditions to your advantage. Just check each enemy's level at the beginning of the battle, keep an eye on elevation, you'll get the hang of it eventually. Just spend as little time as you can as a Calculator, because their stats are awful.

Calculators suck. There is no forgetting that. A knight has twice their speed. I cannot stress how much calculators suck. Best bet is to get all 2100-2400 job points needed in one power-level battle (depends on if you want Damage Split [Reaction]). It'll take a while, but it's wholly possibly, even two at once. Just make sure you have Ramza yell like hell.
Math skill rules. Takes most of your Black/White/Yin Yang/Time in one package with no CT or MP, but make targeting annoying. Awesome, stupidly good. Some tips: CT comes in fairly consistently in 4 or 5, so if you want something to hit all on the field, this is a safe bet. (CT 5 Holy at the beginning of a fight hitting everyone...including your party with holy-absorbing Chameleon robes. Cheap but good.) Height cannot hit .5 heights. So on a flat battlefield, try and grab those safe spots if you want to clean house. Height's biggest advantage is when there's a definite high/low ground. The Execution fight, the first encounter with Rafa and Malak or the first fight against Meliadoul all have at least some enemies starting on a flat high ground. A height 4 (5?) on the Execution grounds can hit Gaff (or the archer) and the two time mages. XP is incredibly variable. Best thing to do is just check every number if you want to go with XP, and just work with the best choice, or just use something else. Level is a more reliable XP, usually the enemy is fairly close in level, and your party may not be. To be honest, the best thing to do is just test each combination out, zoom the screen out and change the tilt and just see what each does. It's time consuming, so having a good ability to be able to do effective sometimes. I guess if you feel lazy, you can give the Auto-Battle a shot with the guy with Math Skill. Might work.
