I was playing X-Men Legends the other day and thought of FFVI and realized alot of FFVI cahracters relate to the X-Men in some way, here are some examples IMO, you can post who think relates on FFVI to X-Men:

Terra: Jean Grey (It is obvious and when Terra morphs it is like when Jean Grey goes Phoenix.)
Locke: Cyclops ( I could not exacty find anyone for Locke, but Cyclops seems right one this one)
Edgar: Iceman (Both really like women, At least in X-ML that is, so Iceman seemed to have the perfect fit.)
Sabin: Wolverine ( Sabin's weapon type is claws, and give Sabin an Auto-Regen ability, and he'd be perfect, Auto-Regen = Healing Factor.)
Shadow: I couldn't think of anyone.
Cyan: see Shadow.
Gau: In a way, Gau would probaly be Nightcrawler, it seemed like a perfect fit.
Celes: I couldn't exactly think of anyone, but all I can think is Storm, don't ask.
Setzer: Gambit (they both use cards, so it was the perfect fit.
Mog: Can't Think of anyone.
Strago: I am going with Prof. X on this one, don't ask why either, It seemed like a perfect fit.
Relm: I was not to sure on this one, but I am going with Magma on this one.
Umaro: If Umaro was really smart and could talk, He would be Beast. or If he was an X-Men character, he would be The Hulk.
Gogo: Since Ggoo can use the abilitys of all of the other characters, I am going with Rogue, it seems to a good fit so that is why I chose Rogue.
Edit
My opinions are based out the versions of the characters from X-Men Legends.

If anyone else has any ideas to this, just post them. Again, I just thought It would be a creative idea though.

Now that's an odd idea that I'd have never expected. Its always fun to see some of these. Well, I don't know much about the X-men but I'd like to think I know a little bit.

Relm ~ Jubilee, I think that's the right spelling. Although its not a perfect fit, both are young, sassy mouthed characters that get themselves into trouble and take risks when they are told not to.

Mog ~ I think he'd best fit the Beast Criteria, of the Beast. Mogs basicly a furry destructive creature that can talk too. Mog isn't quite as smart though . . .

Setzer ~ Gambit. Both are card wielding, gambling, womanizing and somewhat classy characters. Setzer could definatly pull of a Gambit. Although, I don't think Gambit could quite pull off a Setzer for some reason.

I can't realy think of anymore at the moment. I'll probably end up coming back later if I can think of any more FF VI to X-Men characters.

If I remember correctly Narratorway did a picture with FF6 characters as X-men a while back. If you ask me though GamblingCat your ideas could be a little more thought out.
Here's what I think

Terra: Granted Jean Grey becomes Phoenix when she goes berserk much akin to Terra's own Esper formation. She'd be more like Magma seeing as how her innate ability is Fire and so is Magma's.
Locke: Nightcrawler is probably more up his alley Nightcrawlers quick, and turns into a thief when he gets into league with Mystique (Comic buff) Who's to say Locke isn't german anyway?
Edgar: Yeah Iceman would probably go well with him, both are lady killers and what not I sadly have no other backing.
Sabin: Wolverine both use claws and have fiercely aggressive personalitys, although Sabin can remember his past.
Cyan: Cyclops, simply because I see Cyan as a leader.
Shadow: Psylocke, quick, silent, and deadly. It is a woman though.
Gau: Rogue, leaping onto enemies and using their powers against them, come on man!
Celes: Emma Frost, no contest.
Setzer: Gambit for several reasons, the only two I can think of that would make him a bad choice would be off the top of my head he's not a thief or cajun.
Mog: Beast, furry, smart, and full of power.
Strago: Well there really aren't any old guys that I can remember, none the less anyone that can learn enemy attacks aside from Rogue (That's how Rogue gained her abilities
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
She was manipulated by Mystique her mother and used her powers to drain Marvel Woman until she died, gaining them permanately. At least that's how it happened if my memory serves me correctly.
So let's just go with Professor X I guess. :\
Relm: No innate magic, but she is innately powerful with it, and can manipulate things, so of course Storm.
Umaro: Collossus the steel giant.
Gogo: Mystique seems like a perfect fit, although she isn't an X-men. I'm still going to say her though, because they can both copy people.

Also, The Hulk isn't an X-man, FYI.

I see Mog more as an (AoA) Morph than I do Beast. But that's probably just me.

Beyond that, the previous assertations of FFVI character to X-Men seems pretty reasonable to me.
