For a few weeks now my spyware removal program is constantly deleting Grokster Registry entries from my system. I've removed all traces of Limewire, Kazaa from my system and yet it still comes up. Everytime I start up my computer, the same entry is there and I delete it. Anyone know of a spyware removal program that deals specifically with this program? Preferably... one that can simply be downloaded for free.

Thanks in advance.

I'm currently using Freedom, it's an antivirus, spyware, parental control software all in one (provided by my ISP). I've also tried using Spybot: Search and Destory, and Cleansweep (I think thats what it was called). Nothing seems to work.

The experience i've had with Freedom was not a good one, but perhaps yours was better. Anyway, what I tend to do for a clean spyware sweep is run AdAware and then immediately after that Spybot: Search and Destroy. That might miss something in particular which I then can sometimes gut out with HijackThis, but that program is a bit more involved with the registry so I can only recommend doing that yourself if you know what you're doing to some extent.

So I guess what i'd suggest from personal experience is AdAware and Spybot. Grokster is a pain in the ass to remove.

Thanks a lot, I'll give it a shot.

Edit: Ohh, I don't know enough to be using Hijack this. Did a quick scan, didn't see anything glaringly abnormal so I left it alone.

I'm gonna sound pretty stupid for asking this but.... What is Grokster?
I'm assuming it's a spyware file (or whatever it's called) but does it do anything specific (IE: Harm comp, etc)

from what I gather, it is a spyware-ridden file sharing service. at least that's what urbandictionary and some google searches say.

I haven't noticed any harm to my computer, just an annoyance to constantly see it being deleted yet still it shows up again.

From what I've been told, it's a peer to peer software like Kazaa. A program that allows you to search for music, software, etc from other people over the net. I recently got a new computer and I don't want to mess it up with any of that stuff, because it is considered illegal if you don't pay for it, blah blah blah. I'm not sure of all of the details.

Heh, don't feel stupid Strife543. Always good to ask biggrin.gif .
