I'm only slightly agoraphobic, but I'm getting over it. Not many other things scare me, except for maybe swarms of bees. It's really frightening to hear mega-uber-loud-buzzing approaching you.

Isn't agoraphobia the fear of unenclosed spaces, the opposite of claustrophobia?

you're absolutely right, R51. agoraphobia is the fear of open spaces. I misread it. The actual fear of heights is acrophobia as for me, i used to be deathly afraid of heights but i overcame it when i was about 11 or 12. currently, i have a classic case of thanaphobia: the fear of death or dying. i don't know when it started but it's driving me insane. sometimes i stay awake at night and wonder how much longer i actually have to live. it's insane -------------------- "When I turn the page The corner bends into the perfect dog ear As if the words knew I'd need them again But at the time, I didn't see it." ~"This Ain't a Surfin' Movie" - Minus the Bear |

Arachnophobia. As some people in the chatroom may have noticed last year, when I would randomly freak out because I had seen one in the bathroom, the hallway, the kitchen, etc, and I'd have to be calmed down before I could get my superintendant to come over and lend me a vacuum, allowing me to say "oh while you're here, could you get that spider for me?"

Arachnophobia, first and foremost. I have a bad fear of spiders. Slight acrophobia, ask DF. Rollercoasters are fine, but I hate going up.

Yeah Joey had a hard time that day with the roller coasters.
Jlo forgot to mention his DF-phobia. Meaning he's scared of a certain friend named jason especially when he has a stick in hand and is smiling. Mwahahaha. One of my fears isn't really one of those listed, but I'm scared shitless of silence. When things get too quiet I get unreasonably nervous. -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |

I've got very few fears, as a matter of fact. Most of my friends think I'm perfectly crazy when it comes to taking risks involving their pet phobias, especially when it comes to height, which for some reason doesn't manage to affect me at all.
I have had a rather odd aversion to cameras, however, although it developed into more of an irritation than a fear over time. For some reason, taking good pictures is really hard for me. I don't really have fear of heights, spiders, public speaking, or anything really. Although, I'm not saying I'm a daredevil or anything like that; I rely on intellect to tell me what is or isn't dangerouse.
The only thing that gets me really frietened is to see other people in trouble, like someone leaning to far over a rail at a high hieght. The one that stands out is poloticophobia for me. I can't trust politicians anymore. With War, terrible economy and everything else. All this stuff has basically turned me off watching TV. I can't trust the Bush Administration, Nor can I trust that nutcase Saddam Hussien as for the Aussie Prime Minister, he's a goose plain and simple.

Same with me. I used to be badly afraid of heights, but not so much now. And I know what you mean with death and all. I've sat in my bed thinking of how many different ways I could die, and what other people would say, and what my funeral would be like, and if I will make it through my years, etc. I've also thought about what I would do if certain friends died. My other fear would be being alone(in a permanent sense). I would hate not being surrounded by friends or family. -------------------- The clouds ran away, opened up the sky And one by one I watched every constellation die And there I was frozen, standing in my backyard Face to face, eye to eye, staring at the last star I should've known, walked all the way home To find that she wasn't here, I'm still all alone -Atmosphere "Always Coming Back Home to You" |

Hmm, I didn't think about a fear of public speaking. It doesn't bother me too much anymore because I kinda have a funny reputation at school where I do most of my speeches so if I'm just myself it's not all that bad...but the funny thing is that I LOVE cameras. That probably explains all the weird pictures I like to take of myself and other things with the digital camera (pervert and die).

Hi! Did you all miss me? Probably not, but no matter. On to the topic!
I have no problems with spiders, or any other arachnid for that matter, but I just can't stand cocroaches. I know most people don't like them, but I simply can't stand them. And it's not all roaches, either. I used to volunteer at my local children's museum, where I would sometimes handle insects, and the big jungle roaches never bothered me. It's the small house roaches that freak me out. ![]() I also hate clowns... ![]() -------------------- *END TRANSMISSION* |

Spiders and heights. Is laliophobia the fear of speaking in public, or fear of speaking at all?

I HATE spiders. they terrify me. i cant even think of one or see a picture without getting a chill down my back. remember that really really poorly crafted movie, arachnophobia with jeff daniels and john goodman? scared the hell outta me. yeah thats right, and thats gotta be one of the chessiest movies around. and that covers spiders.
theres another one. i dont have a fear of horses per se, other than that theyre stupid looking and smell like ass, but i have a crippling fear of going behind a horse and it deciding to kick me in the face. that must be unpleasant. -------------------- You watch the world exploding every single night Dancing in the sun, a newborn in the light Say goodbye to gravity and say goodbye to death Hello to eternity and live for every breath Your time will come... |

Please don't be angry at me for reviving this thread after 2 years but I thought it would be better than starting a new one that is exactly the same.

I wouldn't be. I was suddenly reminded of an odd fear that I don't think I've mentioned yet. I'm scared of frogs. Had constant nightmares of 'em when I was a kid, and then my family moved to calavaras country, home of the jumping frog jubilee. I was forced to hear bullfrogs right out my window every night (which had to be kept open or I'd bake). To quote from a beautiful fanfic: fate was a Microsoft product back then.
I few years ago, I think I was twenty one, I saw a movie on tv called The Bear. This is a family flick along the lines of those old Disney nature movies from the sixties or so. Only this movie has a sequence involving a the titular bear having a nightmare about frogs. Twenty one folks and I only caught the last half minute or so of this nightmare sequence and I was short of breath and my spine was going apeshit. I unfortunately saw the whole thing when I was younger and I didn't sleep at all that night. Odd thing though. I'm not really afraid of the frogs. In fact I'd catch them all the time when I lived in the country. But the during the night, when they started croaking and I couldn't tell how far away they were.... :S That was the thing that always scared me pissless. That dambed croaking... I'm by no means tooting my own horn (and you'll find out why in a minute), but not a whole lot has ever really scared me. I kinda grew up as a morbidly ignorant tomboyish girl who'd gladly do things like stand and balance on a balcony rail five stories up just to say 'nah!' Yeah, I was pretty dumb. I always liked things like snakes and spiders for some reason, though.
Now, for what DOES scare me: Clowns ![]() Ever since I was little it seemed like they had a vendetta against me. I'm like a clown magnet - I attract them somehow and it's downright terrifying. Those huge, honking noses and unicycles and tiny cars...*shudder* That's one of the few fears I'm not gonna even try to get over; why do something like that when I can just run for my life whenever Ringling Bros. comes by? I notice I'm not the only one who's horrified when they see those juggling freaks, so at least that makes it less embarrassing. And no offense to any clowns out there. You're just really, really creepy... However, just to add fuel to the fire, I've always had an irrational fear of balloons. Yeah, you read that right -- freakin' balloons. I don't mean the giant hot air variety, either. I'm talking about the small helium-filled ones. I honestly don't have a damn clue as to why, but I guess that's why it's irrational. All I know is from the first time I saw a balloon on a string, there was something about it that scared the crap outta me. After that I started popping every balloon I ever recieved, just to 'kill' it. I just get really uneasy around 'em. Stupid fear, I know. Even though clowns tend to carry around balloons, I'm almost positive that has nothing to do with it. -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. If anything simply cannot go wrong, it will anyway. If there is a possibility of several things going wrong, the one that will cause the most damage will be the one to go wrong. - Murphy’s Law Boing!
