Well, four days prior to the official release, the ROM's on the net and the fan's are on the ROM. What comes next is what's going on out there; the new content of FF VI Advance!

- A new choice
With Locke as your party leader, you can take the Phoenix Magicite to Leo's grave and actually revive the dead general. The Phoenix Magicite will shatter in the process, and Leo can't (or won't) equip any Magicite, but Square has finally given in to the cries of the fanboys smile.gif

- Another new character
Gestahl! His class description (a feature already present in the Japanese SNES release) is 'ghost'. He CAN use Magic, and his special skill is supposed to be the dummied Summon command which allows you to, dunno, summon your Esper more often than once?

- New weapons
Save the Queen (sword), Zanmatou (katana), Scorpion Tail (flail), Godhand (claw), Longinus (spear), Last Resort (gambler weapon), Zorlin Shape (knife), Apocalypse (sword)

- New Magicite
Leviathan, which can be found during a boat ride; Gilgamesh, which attack you at the Colloseum, Diablos and Jumbo Cactuar.

- Pink Flans...this can only mean trouble.

- Bugs fixed!
Vanish/Doom and the Evade bug have both been fixed.

- Quicksave and Bestiary feature

Leo, This'll be interesting. I wonder if shock will still be his skill.

But Gestahl, come on. Who ever wanted to have him in your party?

The only thing that I'm really happy about is the fixed bugs.

Well finally all of the conspiracy theories of General Leo/Ghestal can finally become real. After 10 years of battling to find the secret revival of Leo, you can now realize all of the time and thinking you have wasted !! xD

I would say they need to also CONCLUDE the whole story behind SHADOW and RELM...maybe the entire scenes of shadows dreams too? And some sorta secret scenario with Gogo and Setzer wink.gif

I assume Gogo continues to be a playable character?

If that's the case, then we can safely assume that Gogo is not Gestahl. Now, if only Daryl was a playable character...

I'm a bit disappointed in the whole reviving General Leo aspect and I don't think I 'll be bringing him back to life in my playthroughs. Yes, he was an interesting character, but after years and years and years of people freaking out, finding ways to bring him back to life, isn't it about time we gave up and let him stay dead? Ghestal doesn't excite me very much either, but I guess in the end they had to add SOMETHING to an already perfect game. I just don't know if this detracts from the characters deaths as so few people ever really stay dead. I won't, however, say no to more Shadow material and background.

At any rate, I'm still really looking forward to this release and I can't wait to get my hands on a copy.

If that is real info, I’m glad that FFVI has some FFVIII summons, especially the better ones.

I think it’s pretty understandable that people might doubt news that Gestahl of all characters is going to become playable, especially when there is no news link or screenshots to back it up.

Well, I said I would come back for this, and in spite of real life I'm doing just that. The first thing I've decided to do is test out as many bugs in the bugs guide that's on the web right now as I can/wish (despite how outdated it is, it'd give me a nice look into how many fixes there may be and whether I should bother testing every last one), along with the more popular unlisted ones like Wind God Gau, FC/Airship, and acquiring Kutan.

And as an aside... I'm not believing the V/D and Evade fixes until I see them for myself. To mark them as Version Specific though... damn. Maybe they did learn something from Anthology. I likely still have Muddle/Smoke Bomb and Joker Doom (I hope I'm not jinxing myself on the latter) though. tongue.gif

Leo resurrection sucks hard. Novalia Spirit opened the door, I in turn made one of the hottest rumors in FF history come partially true because of his help, and then a year later Square spits on that effort. One of my goals for FF6A was going to be the acquistion of Leo just for kicks, but where's the appeal in doing that now unless a new bug has surfaced that would let me keep him?

But I'm keeping myself from my new unreadable game. Balthier and crew will just have to wait, it's time to rip through the world of Final Fantasy 6 for the last time... if only because of the Leo thing. I want my damn pride back.

Oh, and yes, I will look for the Sketch bug at some point. I slacked on learning z80 assembly unfortunately, so that may be a bit.

EDIT: I don't want to hit the FF6A board on G'FAQs since the mods might go crazy despite the game's legitimate release in Hong Kong, so here's hoping someone else is on the ball here: what do the two new game options mean at startup? What's the difference? I'm quite curious. I picked the second one just out of habit (had to see what it did) and so far I see no difference... then again, I keep interrupting the game to type and I have yet to see Whelk, so whatever.

EDIT 2: Ooh, they've been playing with the event code! The Vomammoth/Guard battle had the camera pan up, something I don't remember ever seeing. But maybe I'm just paying too much attention or something.

(I may edit this post instead of my changes text file for oddball observations; this could get quite large)

EDIT 3: Y'know, I think I'll just make a list and sort it later.
  • Select now switches characters; AFAIK it only serves the function of Y/Square, so X/Triangle has been lost.
  • MP levelling up follows the original FF6j scheme, not FF3us' modifications. At least so far anyway.
  • The new shield icon has a black diamond. Dunno if I like it.
  • I guess the GBA is incapable of music fade ins/outs. They're missing, which makes Terra's dream in the moogle cave end rather abruptly for the ears.
  • Kefka's portrait is how I always imagined it would be. Odd. Yes, there's a double meaning to that word.
  • The old men wear blue instead of black now. Think of the mayor in Thamasa. Certainly something I wouldn't have bothered changing....
  • Golden... the RAM format may actually be the same as the SNES version (with some changes for the new stuff of course). With slight modifications, the same codes for HP and status work (7E3EF8 can be 02003EF8, the 02 meaning "change 2 bytes," and it works the same (the code is for Character 1 status 3 (and 4) FYI)). Thanks for making my job slightly easier, Square!

Dji is above reproach when it comes to honesty, I believe, but you can't really fault fans for being skeptical of the information he gave. That's some pretty wild stuff for folks to swallow.

Well, you could also be more clear in your first post as to what you find is hard to believe, rather than just say "That all seems really fake JUST FOR THE RECORD"

Edit
Here, I found these in about three minutes of bothering to look.

Glancing at that picture makes it seem as though you fight Gilgamesh in the Colliseum. Fun.

Kutan has apparently returned for FF6A. Pic(s?) coming in a bit when I get to Narshe.

EDIT: Oh, before I forget: Celes' photo appeared in the text box prior to the Tunnel Armor fight.

EDIT 2: New Blitz combinations, because I know you're curious as all hell too:

Possible spoilers: highlight to view
Suplex: R, L, Down, Up
Mantra: R, L, R, L, Down, Up
Spiraler: R, L, Up, Down, Right, Left

EDIT 3: The Phantom Train music plays instead of just the train sounds when Cyan's family departs... it was so cruel and heartless on Square's part the way the music was timed. laugh.gif If I had known that was coming, I would have tried to capture to AVI....

But yeah, first new bug! Very odd, though, that it should be a music bug at the Phantom Train; that's where I first started noting version specific bugs in Anthology too. :\

Also, new bugfix: Retort status is NOT retained past death and revival. However, Psycho Cyan still remains. This just means Retort will have to be activated again after revival, making the bug harder to execute but certainly nowhere near impossible. That was scary though; for a moment, I thought we had lost our favorite sword-swinging mental patient....

EDIT 4: Phunbaba's immune to Clear status. Actually immune, not some half-assed Miss-fix like Anthology! My god... does someone at Squeenix actually give a damn now!?

EDIT 5: Huh. So the Vanish/Doom fix is real. I guess the Clear immunity thing is so people will have a harder time hitting with spells. It's certainly a masterful red herring, given that SrBehemoth nearly had me convinced the V/D fix was nothing but a rumor (the living form has Clear immunity now as well).

EDIT 6: Vanish/Life 2 still exists! I certainly did NOT expect that after V/D's elimination, but... well, it's Square. Why should I be surprised at this?

EDIT 7: I said there would be a pic of Kutan, and here it is:

http://masterzed.cavesofnarshe.com/Misc/kutanadvance.PNG

Well, I think that's about enough for now....

Would you guys mind giving me a window where Gestahl and Leo's names actually appear in the name window, instead of the command menu covering it? And another image link that doesn't say something about exceeding bandwidth? I'll have a much better time accepting something as ridiculous as Leo/Gestahl being playable if I could at least see if it isn't some elaborate photoshop.

Sorry to doubt you, but there's been too much craziness the last few weeks here, and I don't need to know that they'll do something utterly stupid as revive Leo. Gestahl is less ridiculous, but Leo? That just ruins his death.

Edit: It seems, that these rumors are true. This is rather sacriligeous. But I will presevere.

OH GOD. ;__; WTF SQUARE-ENIX.

The GBA's Synth is ugly as sin. It seems they didn't even put an effort into making it sound pretty like FFVA's music...

Well, even though this is mind-blowing, I'll probably still play it until the cartridge melts anyway.

Yeah, okay, but you can't believe it when WE say it, whereas you look at another site that has a story about it, and the same goddamn picture you were whining about, and now you believe?

Even without that, I've already checked out a few other sites which confirm this. CoN happened to be the first site I looked at that even had this information, and considering the craziness that happened recently with chou, combined with the craziness of something as extreme as reviving General Leo or recruiting Gestahl, gave me skepticism.

Even so, I like Phoenix. @@

I KNEW they'd add Gilgamesh though. They've been totally obsessed with lately. What's he been in other than V now? VIII, IX, XII, IA, and now VI... and there was at least a character in XI 'called' Gilgamesh. How on Earth d'he avoid being in IVA? =P

I really dont see why they arent doing something with Siegfried. It would be pretty sweet if you could at least have some sort of sub-quest with the whole Siegfried/Ziegfried issue in the game, and maybe alittle more about the two.

He would be a secret character, and his ultimate weapon would be Death Penalty tongue.gif . (AKA a gun)

These addidtions are really cool, and i'm dieing (slowly) to know how you'll meet Gesthal.

I totally agree. I think it cheapens the story to have those two join the party. Like you said, no one stays dead anymore. I'm waiting for FF7 Remix to come out and have Aeris spring back to life. It seems like FF is really taking after Star Wars to the bitter end. They just keep adding more and more crap, including stupid sequels and re-releases with questionable additions. Why is it that ghost-Ghestal reminds me so much of ghost-Hayden Christiansen in the latest episode VI remake? Will it get to the point where there is such a demand for the original product that Squenix will have a "Special Christmas Time Only!!!" re-release? But anyway, being a stupid fanboy I'll prob try this game if I can get my hands on it and a GBA.

And is the new Shadow stuff included in the release or is that just wishful thinking?

Edit
Hm, looks like my post might be pointless. I'm reading across the web that the Leo and Gestahl rumors are, in fact, just rumors. Those pictures might just be photoshopped. Anybody with the game able to confirm this?

Who in God's name, ever in the history of the universe, would have wanted Gestahl on her team? No, seriously. The man looks like a Shih Tzu and is deathly boring to boot. Was it because they had his battle sprite already? Couldn't we have scored Maduin instead, in that case?

I know it's really geeky to be super-depressed that they're completely cheapening Leo's death in this way, but I am a real geek, and I am super-depressed. I hope this doesn't become accepted canoooooooooon sad.gif </fanfic-writer-angst>

Edit
As for the "rumor" rumors, I guess we can't know for sure. But I have the awful feeling that it is indeed legitimate.

Edit
Edit 2 WHY CAN'T ANYONE EVER SPELL GESTAHL'S NAME RIGHT? It's not that hard! They're supposed to be a video game news site, even!
