Does anyone know where I can find the version of Aria de Mezzo Carattere that played during the opening FMV?

I've got a question about bits and pieces of Kefka's theme in the Dancing Mad tracks. Yes, I know I posted this as an old trivia question, but I found two bits--one in the base line of the 3rd track and two in the fourth track's melody. Are there any more

These little things are I think part of the reason why Dancing Mad is so great--that it incorporates bits and pieces of what Kefka used to be to show how he actually is so much more horrible in so many ways than you ever thought he was, but he still stays "true to his roots" and expanding them (by reusing his old theme). Also, that 3rd track usage was somewhat of a glorification of his theme's opening (along with irony of the angelic demon), and the fourth track usage seemed to show very clearly that "This now is the true nature of Kefka--one MUCH MORE MESSED UP (just like the music) than you ever could imagine it was." These reusages of Kefka's original theme greatly enhance the Dancing Mad tracks, and are one of the major reasons why I think it's so great. It so accurately portrays and reflects what you encounter as you fight your way up his monstrous obelisk to face Kefka in all his "glory".

So does anyone know of any more such "bits and pieces" reusages?

More than any of the other FF games, in my opinion, FFVI's music kicks butt. I definitely have my favorites, and I'd be curious to know which ones are the favorites of other fans, since I've never had a chance to ask. Here are my top 3:

1. Magitek Facility ("Devil's Lab")
2. Boss Battle Music
3. Final Battle (before Kefka, "Dancing Mad?")

That's that...those are my favorites based on my own opinions, since like I've said, I've never discussed the music with anyone previously. It was a tough choice...there are a ton of others that I love and wanted to put here also... cool.gif

MIDIs are all very well, but what about MP3s??? The problem with MIDIs is that you can't copy MP3s onto a CD and play it wherever you go...So can anyone help me with this...? Thanks!

Yeah, and as for my favourite music, I love the Boss Battle theme, Relm's theme and the WoR theme. Excellent pieces!!! Bow down before the greatness of Nobuo Uematsu!!! laugh.gif

Gosh, there's so many songs to choose from...

Terra's theme. It just never seems to get old.
Shadow's theme. It has that air of sadness that Shadow seems to have. Really fits him.
Atma's theme. Very royal, yet evil sounding.
Locke's theme. Nuthin like good ol' heroics!
Edgar's/Sabin's theme. Ya can't get anymore royal than this.

Kefka's theme: I like the opening part. That's the best part of it. I like the drums that play, and the music that make General Kefka sound like a General. By the way where can I find the orchestrated version of Kefka's theme. Kefka's theme is the best character theme of all times except for Cid's
Gogo's theme: I like the mysterious aspect of it. It was so good that I thought that it was a perfect theme for a disguised Daryll.
Rachel's theme: I like the first part of it. That's the most sad part of the theme. In fact listening to this theme makes me cry. Every part is magnificently done. It's a perfect sad theme, and makes you like Rachel. The instruments used are the perfect instruments.
Shadow's theme: I like the guitar that's used. It makes Shadow seem like some 40 year old home-on-the-range type person, who was depressed, and expressing his emotions. Sorry, but that's what it sounds like. It's good, but far too short.
Cele's theme: A true masterpiece, expecially done with the Cid's death scene. It depicts the very emotions of death, and let's people get a close-hand experience on death.
Relm's theme: Depicts the emotions accurately of a painting. It's a perfect song for Realm.
Boss music: I liked every single remix of this song. I could listen to this song forever, so does anyone know how to make windows media files play longer, so I can listen to Kefka's theme for 5 minutes straight? Also, I will be grateful if I can have a remix of Gogo's theme.

You can't make Windows Media Player files (mp3s, MIDIs, wavs, etc.) longer unless you write/record a new file. But there is a format that plays continuously, forever!--the SPC format.

Go to the Music section of CoN's FFVI pages, and you'll find not only MIDIs of every track, but also a compressed file containing the SPC music files of the complete soundtrack of FFVI. Download that RAR file and open it with UltimateZip (which I believe you can find on Zophar's page: www.zophar.net <-- correct me if I'm wrong about this), then you'll find a horde of SPC music tracks (note: they may appear as PKCS #7 Certificates or something like that: that's okay, you can change it later). To play them, you'll need an SPC player, such as WinSPC (which I use), which you can also find on www.zophar.net.

I once went to sleep with Relm's theme on, and just for evidence that this does really play forever (provided you don't stop it), it was still playing when I woke up hours later. And if you're concerned that these things will repeat introductory passages of those tracks that have them, don't worry; they don't, and the intro plays only once, while the "loop" part repeats as it normally does inside a videogame. And it sounds just like the music in the game, not like a MIDI version.

You can do either of two things:

1. Redefine what opens those SPC files. The ".spc" extension is used by several file types, so what you can do is (at least from what I know using Windows XP) define SPC files to be opened by WinSPC (or whatever your program is). Right-click on the SPC file, and then choose "Open with..." or "Properties", and if you chose Properties, click the "Open with..." button. Then choose the WinSPC program to open this file type, and if it's not there already, "Browse..." for the program. Make sure that the box "Always use this program to open this file type" is checked, and then click OK enough times for everything to go away. Now you should be able to open your "[insert file name here].spc" by just double-clicking on it. (Note: this isn't guaranteed to work, although it usually does.)

2. Just open the SPC file with your SPC player program directly. Either open the SPC player and use its "File -> Open..." command, or find the program in a window and the SPC file in either the same or a different window and drag the SPC file's icon onto the program's icon. This should allow you to open any file type with any program, without redefining it.

I hope this helps you and everyone else who might come along later wondering about how to listen to SPC files. Praise to the Caves of Narshe for having an SPC soundtrack on site!!!

Ooh, my favourites? WoB overworld theme, Cyan's theme and the Veldt music. Oh, and the main theme on the load game screen. But I can't stand the WoR overworld theme when you get the airship...it hurts my ears!

Yeah I understand this problem. When I wear headphones or use my computer speakers those high pitched mechanical noises are a pain. What sound system do you use? I suggest playing on a home stereo system for best results. When I do that the WoR airship music is just fine.

I am bringing this thread back to life!! thumbup.gif

One of the things that attracted me most to Final Fantasy VI was the soundtrack. FF6 has one of the most diverse and interesting soundtracks I have ever heard on a video game. I will name a few of my favorites here.

"Aria de Mezzo Caraterre" ... if this music didn't stir some emotion in me, then how dare I call myself a music major! I haven't quite figured out how to place the English words with the melody, but I'm working on it. Maybe I should try translating the words to another language, but the only other I'm fluent in is German.

"The Opera and the Octopus" ... this is what I have named "Grand Finale" in my music files; this is the music of the opera house/Ultros battle. It's so entertaining, and it really establishes (as does the battle itself) that Ultros is nothing more than a joke! Plus, it's great to battle a boss to something other than the boss music (not that I don't like that music, too).

"Village of the Mage Warriors" ... this is what I have named the theme that plays in Thamasa. I've lost sleep trying to figure out how this theme fits together! I'm a music major, so that's okay. It is a very intriguing theme for Strago and the people of Thamasa.

"Atma!!" ... I concur with someone who posted earlier in this thread (I forget whom, and this would have been nearly four years ago) who said that this battle theme scared them HALF TO DEATH!! It is a very terrifying theme! And also to have to battle Doom, Goddess, and Poltergeist to this theme ... this music tells you that you are in for a tough battle!

"Dark World" ... I like this theme. It shows just what the world has come to -- a world of ruin. Also (as I mentioned in the trivia thread), battling Tritoch to this theme made for a very eerie and chilling experience. This was serious -- this was the Esper that started it all.

"Storm Before the Calm" ... this is what I have named "Searching for Friends." I have taken this (so to speak) as my personal theme song. Strange, I know, but I can do this!! thumbup.gif Anyway, the first time I was playing through, and this theme started to play as the Falcon rose up from the sea ... just gave me the chills. Being able to hear it every time I returned to the overworld offered a sense of hope that perhaps the Returners could put an end to Kefka's reign of terror. What an awesome theme; I'm in the process of orchestrating it for full orchestra.

These are just a few of my favorites. But I say again, FF6 would have lost so much if it hadn't been for the music. It's just awesome. It is the most perfect video game I've ever played ... wow.

For map themes, I pick Blackjack and Searching Friends. Character-wise, Edgar & Sabin.

All 4 tiers of Dancing MAd, when played in order, make up my favorite theme. My second fave? Kefka Pallazio's theme. Followed of course by Gau's.

Wehll... I love the regular boss music for starters. I also love Terra's theme, but by that I mean the song 'Awakening'. Come on, that's what's always playing with her around, not the world of balance world map! I also like Kefka's theme because it sounds so odd playing when he's causing chaos/destroying all life on the planet. Shadow's theme I like too... ooh! And 'Coin Song', that one in Edgar and Sabin's flashback at Figaro.

PS: I would like Locke's theme too, but where I go it's so overused it's insane. Crying shame, that.

I thought Terra's/WoB Overworld/Opening Theme was very excellent. The piano and orchestral arrangements of this/these song(s) is/are even better. Wow that was confusing. ohmy.gif
