Almost everyone who has played a square game will run through it once and then go through it multiple times trying to test their skill in same manner. Be it the Celes, Setzer, Edgar challenge in FFVI, or defeating Ozma in FFIX with all level 1 characters (apparently, it's possible). In either case, you can proudly say, "Yup, I did that".
Here, please boast about your hard earned accomplishments from any square game. Because, you obviously attempted those challenges for more than just self satisfaction. Deep down, you know you wanted to brag ![]() I'll get the ball going with Kingdom Hearts, battling it out with Sephiroth in the arena. I beat him on Hard at level 58, which basically meant that I could only survive one attack before a curaga was in order. A battle that took me about an hour to complete.. ugh. But, well worth it! Edit: In my KH game, I chose to start with Sword and abandon magic (which is apparently the hardest way to play the game) Anyone else have an achievement they wish to have immortalized on the forums? ![]() This post has been edited by Racthoh on 19th January 2005 05:56 -------------------- This is my world: (Got my second chapter up, 3rd Chapter about 80% complete) http://www3.sympatico.ca/daniel876/homepage.html |

I'd say my crowning glory would be beating Karlboss in FFV with my lone WHM. I had to get to level 53 to do so, and it was months of gruelling hell. The hardest battle I could EXP off was three Bandersnatches. If you think it'd be easy, this was what would happen.
I attack. He paralyzes me. This resets the ATB a fair bit. He attacks a few times. He removes the paralysis. He paralyzes me once more. He uses tailscrew. 5 HP and paralyzed. He kills me. It was all about luck and being able to kill him in about 6 hits. And I didn't use save states. I actually cheered and danced when I beat him. That completely ruined FFV for me, though. I'm sick of it. |

I managed to play until the end of FF9 before finally losing interest once and for all in FF. I'm surprised I lasted this long and consider it an acheivement.
![]() I finished Final Fantasy VI without gaining any EXP at all (had a game genie code setting my EXP to 0). This was truly a good challenge that made FF6 funner than it'd ever been. And actually challenging. Any game with a last boss that can be killed in 2-3 rounds is not worthy of calling itself a challenging RPG... With my army of level ~8 n00bies, though, it rocked. I did a fair bit of work on FF6 in the ROM hacking department and discovered quite a bit of interesting stuff, as well as mapped out a good deal of assembly code, but that probably doesn't count. I loved Parasite Eve. Both of them. Considering the reviews it's been getting, that's quite an acheivement. -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

1. Defeating Yunalesca (FFX) She was a pain for me. It took me almost 75 retries to kill her. I almost remember the victory dance I had when I finally won.
2. Getting Ultima Weapon in KH. I spent no less than 15 hours getting all the supplies along with the synthesis prerequisites before hand. I'm impressed with your KH victory, Racthoh. Simply defeating Penance is an accomplishment...even with a full sphere grid of level 4 spheres with all character stats at 255, all main weapons and HP over 30000 for everyone it's still bloody hard. ¬_¬

Probably defeating Omega Weapon in FF8. He was one hard mofo, and it took a long time. Also, I guess beating Ruby and Emerald. I never really waste too much time on uber bosses other than them.
Beating the Midgar Zolom and getting beta when you first meet him and are supposed to cross with a chocobo was a great accomplishment in my standing. -------------------- The clouds ran away, opened up the sky And one by one I watched every constellation die And there I was frozen, standing in my backyard Face to face, eye to eye, staring at the last star I should've known, walked all the way home To find that she wasn't here, I'm still all alone -Atmosphere "Always Coming Back Home to You" |

Well, let's see.
Defeating Chrono Trigger at the minimum practical average level of 7-2/3 is a good one, especially considering that I did it on the original SNES cartridge. Mathematically, the minimum possible is an L7 average, but that would require beating Magus with a Frog unable to survive Dark Matter (a fact I was the first to discover!), plus require Nizbel II to be vanquished by Ayla alone, two tasks which are impossible within the given circumstances. The hardest battle was easily against the second form of Lavos - one slip and you're dead, and sometimes you're just doomed from the start. Compared to that, the Core was a breeze. My other big accomplishments aren't really that big. Beat some superbosses, master cleared some games, blah blah blah. The only two that stick out in my mind are the FF6 three man challenge and my first victory over Emerald Weapon, but those are for other reasons. Respectively, they are that the Setzer that soloed Kefka in two rounds was named Chisa, which inspired my "The World Within" project, and the fact that I almost destroyed my PS dancing around after wasting the Green Monster. There is one thing I think may be impossible but want to do anyway: NSG some FFX superbosses. I know it's possible to NSG all the required bosses, because it's been done, but bringing a virgin team against the likes of the Weapons, the arena supers, and the Dark Aeons... -------------------- My soul is bound to the Mistress of the Afterlife, and my fealty is to her always. Let's See:
Beating the Ruby, Emerald and the Omega weapons in FF7 and FF8. And getting the neccasary items to get the Ultima Weapon in Kingdom Hearts. That is it for now I could not really think about stuff for FFI-VI, and IX-X-2, and T and TA. Thats it I guess. |

I've never been big on extra challenges, once I've beaten the game I'm usually satisfied. The only thing I can think of was beating Lavos at the Ocean Palace on my first time through in a plus game.

Beating Lavos at the Ocean Palace was cool as i discovered. Its how i got the programmers ending the first time. I recall a couple situations where i jumped for joy, but none come to mind sadly at this time. Maybe I'll edit this later if i can think of any others.

I just completed a no equipment/natural magic/low-level game of FFVI last week. Without a walkthrough of tips for doing so. Pretty damn challenging, that, especially when your party members can die ten times over after receiving a gentle love tap from almost any random enemy in the WoR.
Beating Ozma in FFIX with characters in the low to mid-30s range. Took me more tries than I cared to count and each attempt was an excruciatingly long battle. By the time I killed the thing I was completely zoned out while repeating the same strategy I used for the past several hours and didn't snap outta it until I saw the experience screen pop up, to which I promptly choked on my tongue. I just know I'll never be able to nor want to accomplish something like that again, probably because it was more boring than it was fun. Liking FF2j. I've noticed quite a few people here do, but it's considered impossible outside these cyberwalls. And I guess playing and beating Live-A-Live without a walkthrough. That game can be extremely confusing at points. Those're all I can remember at the moment. -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. My greatest Final Fantasy Achievement. Well, I have 2, but I think you can handle it.
1. FFIX- I beat the legendary Ozma in 3 turns (with each player) the way to do it is to steal all of his MP and use all of yours, so he can't use any magic and kill you too quickly. and 2. FFT- I turned Ramza into a powerhouse of attacks with Lv. 8 calculator, Ninja, Samuri, Monk, Wizard, Priest, Time Mage, Oracle, and Geomancer. I took out the last boss with one turn from all of the units on my team. It didn't take much, and I like to brag. ![]() -------------------- "There is not a liberal America and a conservative America - there is the United States of America. I would say my Square achievement (though, it is something that just about anybody can do) is beating the final battles in FF games with the greatest of ease.

Quote Doing almost everything in FFVII, including getting all the characters to lvl 99 and mastering Knights of the Round three times Sounds similar to mine - in FFVII, I leveled all characters to 99 and got 3 full sets of all the Master materias (one full set for each of member of my main party) by running around in the circular swamp area in Sephiroth's dungeon. By the time I was done, I had over 99 hours... Quote and no, I don't have a life I feel ya, brother. ![]() -------------------- I don't pee in your pool, so please don't flame on my post. |

Biggest Square accomplishment? Sending an e-mail to Square, asking some questions, and not getting any reply. It proved that Yes, Square is a company run by incubi and No, they don't love their work.
In their games, I probably would have to go with defeating Shinryuu and Omega without the cheap-ass tactics I learned about later. -------------------- |

Twilight Paladin, if you want to beat Sephiroth early, I suggest using the Metal Chocobo. You may be thinking "what?", but it has the same reach as the Ultima Weapon which GREATLY helps against him. Not exactly an accomplishment in the usual sense of defeating some megaboss or getting all of the lores or something, I tested my patience by ignorance I guess... Before I learned how to turn on/off layers in ZSNES, I navigated my way through the Mist Cave in 4 and the Ship Graveyard in 5 just by feeling my way around... All you could see in the mist cave was a screen of solid white, and just the water tile pattern in the shipyard. When I finally had the mist dragon text pop up and warn me I was getting close, I just about wet myself... er.. *cough*
It was ridiculous and tedious but looking back I guess it was an accomplishment, even managed to get most of the treasure I think. I don't recommend trying it though. ... This post has been edited by imperialstooge on 18th January 2005 08:04 |
