I was gonna see if anybody else was gonna post about this fantastically awesome game, but I guess I hafta do the deed.

Metroid Prime 3 - one of the greatest games ever, taking everything good of the other metroid primes, and then adding and improving. Being for the Wii, having the capability to point at the screen to aim makes the game waaaaaay better than the old gamecube way of losing your ability to move when aiming, but it's a double-edged sword at the same time, being that it's very difficult to aim at a moving object, even to lock on initially.

One of the other great things about this game, whether it's true or not, game modes start out with Normal and Veteran, rather than easy and normal. Gotta love the psychology of everyone being better than easy tongue.gif . When you beat the game, it unlocks Hyper mode, rather than hard. What's really cool about Hyper mode requires a little bit more background explanation about the game first.

The start of the story is that all the Hunters are called together to help the galactic feteration find a federation ship that space pirates attacked and took offline. The ship had an Aurora Unit that went offline during the attack. (FYI- Mother Brain was an aurora unit)

When the story kicks in, there is a phazon meteor about to crash into a planet with a GF watchout base on it. You and all the other hunters rush over to get the generators running, and try to shoot the meteor out of the sky. You pull it off, but Dark Samus shows up and pwns everybody with a blast that makes everybody natrually produce phazon in their bodies. Because of this, they outfit all the hunters' armor with PED suits, a new technology that powers up attack and defense with a phazon pack on the GF soldier's suits. Because all the hunters naturally produce the phazon, there is no pack, it just injects the natural phazon into a tank of energy. This is the strongest weapon you get in the game, and you get it from practically the beginning. You use up the tank of energy you inject it into, but it's great because it allows you to be on-the-level with the Hyper mode monsters' attack and defense.

After a little ways into the game, hypermode (using the PED) can corrupt, when you activate it, your energy meter goes away, and you have a blue bar instead. Every shot you shoot in hypermode depletes the bar, you are invincible while in hypermode, but there are attacks that some enemies can do that knock you out of hypermode. If you are in hypermode too long, the blue bar turns red, and will constantly increase. You cannot manually powerdown hypermode when this happens, you have to shoot your weapon faster than the bar goes up. If you don't lower the bar, and it maxes out, you game over, but it does have a cool little cutscene where you turn into dark samus. I mean seriously, how many other games can boast that losing doesn't just let the bad guy win, but actually turns the good guy into the bad guy?

Point is: Hypermode makes Hyper difficulty doable... sort of.

But here's the real reason I wanted to post about this game.
When you complete certain tasks in the game, you get "Friend vouchers," when you complete other tasks, you get special color-coded points. You can redeem these outside of the game to unlock bonus features. Problem is, all of the cool and awesome unlocks require green "Friend Points," and the only way to get friend points is to trade your friend vouchers to friends who also have MP3, and they get the friend points. I have no other local friends with Wiis that play metroid games, so I have an ungodly amount of vouchers, and all the cool stuff yet to unlock, because I can't do it myself!

So if you play this game already, PM me about some voucher exchanges!

Meroid Prime 3 did a great job taking advantage of the Wii's capabilities. I think this is the first time I can safely say I enjoyed the Metroid entry for a console more than the Zelda entry.

Leilong- My airport isn't working, so I can't really get online to trade things right now, but I'll let you know when it's up.

Metroid Prime 3 is rad. I picked the game up at launch and finished a few days afterwards. First and foremost, the game is an incredible showcase for the Wii's controls (I really never got tired of tearing off an enemy's shield with the grapple lasso); your real-world actions actually felt like they corresponded to Samus's onscreen actions (as opposed to Twilight Princess's sloppy controls). The game is paced far better than Echoes and about the same as Prime. I don't know how much I liked the multiple planets, since one interconnected world has always been a cool feature of the Metroid games, but they didn't make the experience any worse. I was disappointed with the morph ball segments and item placement (Echoes is the superior game in both of these aspects), and the boss battles lacked variety, but overall everything was incredible (Ridley/Omega Ridley was f***ing sweet). The entire trilogy comprises three of the best games I've ever played.

I'd send you friend vouchers too, but I let my little brother borrow the Wii to play the game. sad.gif The screenshot tool is pretty sweet, though, and I love the little Mii bobblehead on the dashboard of her gunship.

soooooo agreed. more importantly tho, once you get the ability to drain and charge enemies, it's way more fun to suck every available enemy dry, rather than disarming, or alternate attacks.

it also helps a ton on Phaaze when you're fully corrupted, and just keep building up energy.

The next part i'm also gonna do entirely as a spoiler tag, because it regards the end of the game:

Right now, I'm playing my game on Hyper Difficulty, and managed to go back and activate all the satellites, showing where all the items are. I've 100%ed the item collection and enabled the special ending, but I CAN'T BEAT THE DANG GAME! I can get through dark samus, but I can't kill the AU! I'm too run up on corruption before I can kill it. I've even tried just concentrating on killing the side things to get more anti-phazon, but then the AU uses that dumb laser, and I'm never angled right to avoid all of it, and then I'm worse off than before. Other than just killing and avoiding, does anybody know any good tactics to drain your phazon level during the AU fight?

thanks in advance to anyone who can help at all.
