I must say that I use the Moogle charm far more than I should, but it's effective at getting around. I also used Vanish/Doom on all 8 dragons because I'm pretty much lazy, and the Berserk Them/Vanish You trick worked out nicely for the Mage Master at the top of the cult tower. And there's plenty to say of the 128+ MagDefense trick. Slap that on a decent character and fill the party with your worst people, and you've got an undefeatable team for the Floating Continent in the World of Ruin.

My favorite out of all of those is the Moggle Charm. That item saves you time in-between bosses and doesn't make bosses a boringly easy snore fest. Combine it with Tintinacure Bar and you've got absolutely free HP healing in-between battles too. In fact, you don't even need to go to any inn for healing when you've got Mog and the following:
•Moggle Charm(of course) •Tintinacure Bar •Ribbon •Fenix Down •Osmose It is a long, time consuming, trick though so I won't list it here. Really not as helpful as it sounds anyways because with Moggle Charm, you can just Go back to Molbliz or Figaro to heal anyway. In Cyan's Dream it might help but your probably better off with a single Tent. Moggle Charm is also a great way to take items from around the world too. The Zone Eater's Belly, Underground Castle, Mount Zozo and parts of Kefka's Tower are all easy raids. Just think of the Aegis Shield, Fixed Dice and Fake Mustache if you want some examples. (Ironically, this make Mog more of a "Treasure Hunter" then Locke ever was. At least it does in my book.) But despite the greatness of the Moggle Charm, I prefer "Fenix Down on Undead Bosses" and "Wall Rings on MagiMaster" better. But since they aren't on the list, I voted Moggle Charm (the cheapest of them all). This post has been edited by Tonepoet on 19th December 2004 07:57 -------------------- |

Oh man, I completely forgot about the phoenix down thing! I remember a couple years ago, I was watching my friend play and he gave me this whole speech about the phoenix down on undead trick, and then he got to the ghost train. He got to the boss, and was whining about how difficult it was. I said "Why don't you just use a phoenix down?", and he said it'd never work on a boss. He used one just to prove me wrong. When that train started to shake and flash, the look on his face was priceless.

The Moogle Charm, by far. I wouldn't call 128% MBlock nearly as cheap as the others, because it's a little more strategic. Actually, vanish/beserk is pretty strategic too. Vanish/Doom/X-Zone is the cheapest, by far, because it essentially exploits an overlooked detail in the game's coding and lets you instantly kill bosses. Too cheap for me, personally.

128 MBlock was definitely cheap. In fact it's downright TERRIBLE planning on Square's part; just about every FF had something that could be terribly abused to make the game so easy a child could win (KotR + WSummon + Mimic? Aura? Etc) This, alongside the Genji Glove + Offering, made the game so easy there was barely any challenge to it, even in a low-level game.
NOTHING CAN HIT YOU. EVER. Save for a few exceptions, that is. ![]() Had Square changed the calculations for blocked spells/attacks so that even maxed out stats still gave your characters a (reasonable) chance to get hit, it wouldn't have been so bad. But it's not only easy to hit (2 white capes and some equipment gets you pretty damn close early on in the WoR), it makes even a level 8 no-exp game a joke. Once I hit 128 MBlock I got the Illumina (couldn't lose that battle anymore, even if it took nearly 500 attacks to win ![]() Horribly cheap. 128+ MagDefense, because it just looks so darn cool watching your favorite characters block every attack. It's cheapness rating is low because raising the magic defense that high is a legitimate process, and enemies can still hit you with unblockable attacks.

I'm not sure I'd rank the Moole Charm as cheap, because it isn't a glitch or overlooked detail or anything. The designers put it there for that intended purpose, and it doesn't help you win the game. In fact, if you lean too heavily on it, it can make you significanly less powerful, and you can miss out on rages and lores. That said, if you consider it cheap, it's definitly my favorite cheap trick. After I've beat the game 10 times, the thrill of a random encounter every 4 steps loses some substance. To me, it's something that takes away from the monotony of the game, because I don't have to trudge through every boring battle when I just want to go to a specific place, like Odin's castle.
In my opinion, the cheapest thing in the game is the Vanish/Doom trick. No skill, no adventuring, no dedication required, just the ability to select 2 magic spells back to back. Not to say that I haven't used it, because I have, but it is incredibly cheap. This post has been edited by io_rage on 28th December 2004 19:03 |

Moogle Charm. I don't usually use stuff like Vanish-Doom (I prefer to beat all the HP out of an enemy); I rarely use berserk on anything, I'm not a stat-whore, and I don't like lamely chain-casting Ultima to cream everything. However, the one trick I don't mind using is the Moogle Charm on the Fanatics' Tower. I've actually tried going up the Fanatics' Tower without the Charm, and alas--even using savestates on an emulator--I couldn't get past the third screen of the tower. While I usually don't like to be cheap, the reward I get from that is too little in return for what effort I would have to put in to get it, so I just invite Mog and slap on the Charm.

Quote (Tidu-who @ 29th December 2004 14:35) I've never bothered with that vanish/doom business, still don't know what it is. It's a glitch in the game that stems from Magic being more potent on foes who are vanished. If you vanish anything in the game, including almost any boss except for like 3, using Doom or X-Zone will result in an instant kill. You can kill the dragons, brachosaurs, intangirs, and pretty much anyone else in the game in essentially one hit. I'm sure Djibby or Detah could elaborate more fully on the reason behind it, but there you go. And by the way, Robin Zander was way cooler than Rick Nielsen. |

Eh, the reason for Vanish/Doom is simple; the Clear status check comes before a few other checks, one of them being instant death protection, and when Clear is found, those latter checks are skipped.
Terii's code2.txt should be able to tell you which those are, if his patch doesn't have a disassembly with it. -------------------- |

You guys may think me a bit unprofessional, but i never knew of the Moogle Charm and the 128+ Defense. Berserk enemy vanish you: ive never tried them before, but sumthin in me makes me dont wanna berserk enemies. As for Vanish\doom i DID use it a bit, but stopped it 'cause i felt dishonored as a player

My favorite trick isn't listed, though its not as cheap as THOSE.
My style is as follows: Give Locke Ifrit, Bismark, or Raiden, for a long time, aalmost constantly, until he has a Vigor of 128. Then, equip him with a Genji Glove, Offering, Atma Weapon, and Valiant Knife. He will kill everything. There is also building up Terra's Magic Power, and giving her the Gem Box, an Economizer, and casting Ultima repeatedly. -------------------- Fierce Legends Software Battle Designer Fierce Legends Software Website Fierce Legends Software Forums Please post in our forums; we are in need of help and input as we develop the Final Fantasy VI Prequel. |

I would have to say vanish and doom but simple cause, well, i think tesper says it best "kills stuff dead". though i can never remember which you have to use on doom gaze in order to get the magicite from him.

Moogle charm. Random battles suck when you don't need to level any more. 128+ MBlock is next. I don't really use either of the vanish ones. But being imune to random battles AND near invincible against bosses? YAY!

But on a more serious note, what about Offering and Genji Glove? It's an 8-hit combo! That's the cheapest move in the game. edit: Noticed that Silverlance pointed this out earlier. Oh well... This post has been edited by (Carlos) on 17th January 2005 06:59 |
