You've just made a character and now you need to put some skills on him/her so they can be of some use. I'll be lenient and say your character can have ten abilities in their primary skillset. If you want a secondary, make it small or simply a command (Blood Suck). Here's mine:

[1] - Night Sword (Dark Knight ability)
[2] - Stop Bracelet (Assassin ability)
[3] - Dark Sword (Dark Knight ability)
[4] - Galaxy Stop (Astrologist ability)
[5] - Seal (Zodiac Demon ability)
[6] - Dark Holy (Archaic Demon ability)
[7] - Spell (Zodiac Demon ability)
[8] - Parasite (Byblos ability)
[9] - Loss (Archaic Demon ability)
[10] - All-Ultima (Arch Angel ability)

I wanted to include Dark Sword or some curative skill (Esuna, Reraise) but they didn't make the cut.

Here's my list:

1. Galaxy Stop (Astroligist)
2. Scream( Squire Ramza, Chapter 4)
3 .Yell (Squire Ramza, Chapter 3)
4. Golem (Summoner
5. Chackra (Monk)
6. Stigma Magic (Monk)
7. Life 2 (Priest)
8. Holy (Priest)
9. Invite (Mediator)
10. Wave Fist (Monk)

(The optional secondary would be Jump because it technicaly is one "command" and when used right, it actualy makes a difference in this game.)

I mainly like the versital nature of this list but I also like the fact that most of the moves have no MP cost. No MP cost means they can be easily used any time I please. The only ones with MP cost are Life 2, Holy and Golem and their effects far outweigh the fact that they use MP. If I ever do run out of MP for those, I can always use Chakra to get more anyway. Ah Chakra, the only way to go for free HP and MP renewal thumbup.gif .

6. Finish Touch

monster talk inherent (100% sucess rate to any ennemy but boss)
magic defense up inherent (coz she doesnt like being hit by magic due to her faith)
maintenance inherent to protect against knights and thieves

If you were your own character on FFT, what would you have skillwise?

I would be:

ArcKnight

Destroyer Sword- Zalbag's and Elmdor's Abilities
Element Fist: Holy Monk ability (made it up! biggrin.gif )

Element Fist
Blaze Fist: Fire element punch (Range 4)
Glacier Fist: Ice element punch (Range 4)
Blast Fist: Lightning element punch (Range 4)
Rocket Fist: Non elemental punch (Range 5)
Crush Punch: Holy elemental punch (Range 3)
Stop Punch: Darkness elemental punch (Range 3)
Tri Punch: Fire, Ice, & Bolt element punch (Range 1)

go ahead.

P.S. I did know that you can close topics yourself, but I just wanted to see if R51 approved it. You know, because most of my topics suck. biggrin.gif

Interesting. I'm the only one so far that would pick ten skills from common skillsets. They may not be the most powerful...but they're the most fun. wink.gif Looks like I also tend to be a bit more defensive...

Throw Hammer (Ninja) (Morning Stars are cheap and effective)
Throw Sword (Ninja) (Ice Brand does massive damage to those weak to Ice)
Raise2 (Priest)
Holy (Priest)
Haste2 (Time Mage)
Quick (Time Mage)
Chakra (Monk)
Stigma Fist (Monk)
Kiyomori (Samurai)
Solution (Mediator) (excellent against enemy casters)

Secondary Command: Geomancy

Reaction: Damage Split (Calculator) (Been playing with this one, nice that it's effective at any range and against any type of damage)

Support: Short Charge (Time Mage)

Movement: Move+3

For equipment, I tend to not always take the strongest stuff if a lower item has stats I want. Besides, lower HP makes a bit more of a challenge. biggrin.gif (My casters often still have Wizard Robes at endgame...) This particular setup is low in the physical evade category, but then, this character usually won't be getting up in people's faces anyways.

Rune Blade (MA+2)
Aegis Shield (MA+1, evade phys 10%, evage mag 50%)
Flash Hat (MA+1, Speed+1)
Power Sleeve (AT+2)
Diamond Armlet (AT+1, MA+1)

Why equip a power sleeve when you could equip a Robe of Lords? +2 to power, +1 to magic, auto Protect, auto Shell, 100 HP, and 80 MP. Best armor in the game, hands down, but people here tend to overwhelmingly prefer the Maximilian.

Because there's only one Robe of Lords, and that is reserved for Agrias -- excellent skill set, but somewhat weak stats and low HP due to wearing Alma's Barette, whereas I'd expect this fantasy character to be pretty strong from the get-go, much like Ramza. Giving her the Robe of Lords makes her much more powerful, whereas it'd be wasted on this character. Same reason I opted for a Diamond Armlet over the Genji Glove -- it would be put to better use elsewhere (usually on Malak, blasphemy though some may consider my even keeping him). The vast majority of the difficult battles in the game are fought before you have access to the Robe of Lords (and Genji Glove) anyways -- by the time you can get it, odds are you don't really need it.

As for Robe of Lords versus Maximillian, well, I suppose that's more a matter of preference and your characters' strengths and weaknesses. I typically use both somewhere -- Robe of Lords usually on Agrias, Maximillian usually on Ramza (though it'll probably go to Alicia [Lancer] this time around -- meaning Ramza gets a Power Sleeve! wink.gif).

While playing tonight, though, I did realize something -- throwing Balls against an enemy with an elemental weakness does the same damage as throwing a Morning Star (didn't remember that, duh...), so off to edit with a different skill...oh! Throw Sword for the Ice Brand, forgot about that.

Hmmm... I guess that fits your setup, but I hardly ever use Agrias, as her speed and movement are so shamefully bad her usefulness deteriorates towards the game's end. I almost always make Ramza a Draw Out-oriented spellcaster, so I forgo strong helms and shields for a Flash Hat and Aegis Shield, creating the need for the Robe of Lords. I just don't understand why I haven't seen hardly anyone feature it in their "ultimate setups" or whatnot, because it is hands-down the best armor in the game.

Really? I don't think her movement is that bad. Obviously she'll be outpaced by Ramza with Move+3 and Germinas Boots, but a range of 5 with Move+2 is about average for female characters (Reis and Rafa are the same, Meliadoul gets 6, generics are 5 or 6). I think the bigger problem is that making Move+3 male-only unnecessarily cripples female characters in terms of movement. (An interesting challenge is to play without using Move/Jump+X, Ignore Height, or Teleport. Float and Move-HP UP are fun.) As for speed, well, Sprint Shoes or Setiemson can help with that.

Part of it's just the way I play, though -- the team I take into most battles is the five with the lowest experience, so I try to make everyone useful. Agrias, Reis, Rafa, Malak, and Worker 8 can make for an interesting battle.

Agrias's base speed without resorting to accessories is 8 and her max movement likewise is 5. Ramza, Beowulf, and Orlandu all have max movement of seven, Orlandu and Ramza's base speeds being 10 and Beowulf's 9. Reis, who is in my opinion the best character in the game, has an insane base speed of 11 and a max movement of five. You can get around fine with a base movement of five or more, but that base speed of 8 with Agrias' lackluster other stats offset her good moveset. There are lots of Agrias fans out there, but her usefulness really declines if you work on all of your characters. By the game's end, the only characters I used regularly were Ramza, Orlandu, Beowulf, Reis, Cloud, and four or five generics.

I do work on all my characters, they typically stay within about a level of each other. Still find her useful for my style of play. wink.gif But then, that's why I'm still playing this ancient game, there are so many different ways to get the job done...
