Egads, I'm bad at topic titles!

I wanted to draw an M-Tek armor, but I couldn't find any decent screenshots for reference, so I ended up wingin' it. It's based off the artwork/FMV/logo 'cause I think that version's much more menacing than the sprites, and it looks much more like a chocobo...of DOOM! I don't remember ever seeing the back from the side, so I sorta made up that part. I think it turned out pretty well, although I couldn't remember just where the heck a steering wheel was supposed to go (I mean, if it would be visible from this angle or not), so let's just pretend it has one. I also didn't think it looked "complete" without a pilot, so I threw Terra in there. That added more color, at least.

The armor's lines look awful, though, since they're thicker than what I usually do, so you can kinda tell how steady my mouse hand really ISN'T.

I know how you feel about finding a reference for Magitek Armor. I could find some things but all of them were so dark and I can't get a good visual of its form. So I think you did a good job considering what you had to work with.

I think the M-Tek could use some other color besides gray though. Or at least more varying colors of gray like you did on some bits. I like the wing bits too. The steering wheel looks kinda funky, but I guess thats because its not your typical one.

And the armor lines aren't so bad. Your hand is steadier than my own.

I like it, Silver.

I'd be very interested in seeing what you could do using the in-game pic of M-Tek armor for reference, though, rather than another artists rendering. Here, just look over to the left of the screen, under where it says Hamedo. Go by that. I would absolutely LOVE to see your rendition of the "meaner" version, with those big frontal claws and little flag on back and such... thumbup.gif

I thought other colors were needed, too, but I didn't want too much variation; I wanted to keep it as true to what I've seen of the artwork as possible, and that unfortunately meant making it look pretty dull.

That's actually not a steering wheel but more like a random cord or bending pipe stickin' out of it. I mainly put that there to conceal the steering wheel which, like I said, I wasn't sure of its placement nor what it would look like.

And Hamedo, I might take you up on that. I originally wanted to do it that way, but my masochi-... I mean desire for a challenge won out. tongue.gif

Thanks for the comments, by the way.

The main reason that you don't know where the steering wheel is is because they don't have steering wheels. They're driven by si-fi-esque hand levers. Push one lever forward, and it's leg takes one step forward; push the other one forward, and the second leg goes forward.
...at least that's what I've always imagined it as.

I love it. heart.gif I like how Terra looks a little ticked off there, too...

"Fire 3 THIS, biatch!"

XD

Tech crits:
  • Yeah, it uses levers. Looking closely at the battle sprites shows drivers use two levers, and the same goes for field sprites.
  • Considering how minimalist it is, the dull colors work, IMO thumbup.gif
  • The wings look funny on something that'll never leave the ground :-P but all things considered, your level of detail really works... not too much, not too little, like I've said before...
  • Their poses are nice. Like, really nice. There's a lot of action going on here without much real action... O.O

I thought it looked kinda odd having wings and all, too, but lo and behold, they're in Amano's artwork. Heck, Nomura put wings on Sin at one point in FFX, and the thing already flies without them. I swear Square has something with illogical wings, 'cause they slap 'em on some of the craziest places. wacko.gif

And I agree about it having levers. Makes sense. Thing is, while they would control the movement, speed, and brakes, I figure it'd need some sorta mechanism to steer the direction, which is something I wasn't aware levers could do. unsure.gif

Edit
Urk! Just remembered the general rule of steering with levers: Pull one back and push the other forward. Jeez, I'm stupid. Or slow, something like that. blush.gif Okay, you guys win. Now let's just pretend it has levers and everything'll be perfect. tongue.gif
