I have been to the dark dungeon once, and all of my people died in the first battle. Any advice?
I started a new game and all of my other files were deleted by my sister (just cleaning the memory card out 500 Hours of work for absolutely nothing. 1) Reach level 99.
2) Protect yourself through Blade Grasp or Abandon 3) Have someone in constant Transparent status (Vanish Mantle, Secret Clothes) to ensure that you don't lose the battle. If you stole Meliadoul's Chantage at Bervenia, put it on a Agrias, let's say, and give her the Excalibur. 4) Find the good items on the level with Move-Find Item. 5) Kill all enemies but one, and Sleep/Frog/Chicken/Blind/Faith/Don'tMove/Don'tAct it. 6) Search every panel that you know is not a trap and find the exit. Each time you enter it randomly changes (4 different locations I think), so try to make it a priority 7) Use the good weapons and equipment you got on the level to defeat the enemy next time 'round. -------------------- It's gonna be a glorious day I feel my luck can change |

You really don't need to reach level 99. I'd say 55 is around a good number. Except for the very last battle the levels of the enemies depend on the level of Ramza. I think it's around ten levels above his for each battle. But everything else Shotgun said is good advice.

It's so easy to reach the maximum level that there's no reason not to do it, really. At least you'll be on par with the enemies' levels.

Well I always find that because the enemies were ten levels ahead, it made gaining levels a lot easier. I was still able to kill them with ease and I was gaining around 4 levels per battle per person.

Archers or equip gun. By first battle I assume you mean Nogias right?

Yeah, I don't think he knew that you there were exits you had to find. That's understandable.

I was level 45 when I stormed the Deep Dungeon on my last file and it wasn't too hard. What really helps is having at least two special characters to help you out, mainly the uberknights (Cid, Beowulf, Melidoul, and Agrias). I always had Cid and Beowulf backing me up, while three of my customs did their respective thing (destroying things, finding stuff). This is, incidentally, the area where I find most of the specials really shine.
Go to GameFAQs and find the Deep Dungeon Exit Guide. I don't care if it seems n00bish, it will save you from ripping your hair out in frustration. It also helps if the person looking for the door has a wide range of movement and can either Fly or Ignore Height. They will be able to reach the exit quickly, esepcially if you use the guide, so you don't have to keep an enemy barely alive while you take forever reaching it. Other than that, if the monsters are giving you a lot of trouble, many of the Deep Dungeon levels allow you to perform your actions from a safe vantage point or allow you to bottleneck the oncoming hordes. If it come down to it, play defensively. Let the enemy come to you, and then dog pile everyone's attacks on whatever is in range until it dies, then move on to the next. Once you've weeden the opposition down to two or three enemies, then you can travel out, preferably in pairs, to mop up the stragglers. -------------------- And behold, I saw a Pale Gaming System, and the name of he who rode it was Squaresoft, and Enix followed him. |
