one of the best parts of ff6, i would say, is the fact that it has, hands-down, some of the most bizarre characters to ever grace a video game. now, the one who gets all the love here is ultros, which is not unfounded, of course; after all, he's a pathetic purple octopus who attemps (somehow) to impersonate an infamous gambler, tries to disrupt an opera, gets into the antiques trade, joins the air force, and finally settles on a happy living as a colleseum receptionist. this isn't something that normally just pops up in games here! but, i think that his one-time partner in crime, siegfried, is seriously underrated in the realm of weird villains. after all, the first time you meet the guy he's on the phantom train, and i'm reasonably sure he's not the living dead, which means he just happened to be wandering around doma forest much like you and got caught on. how did he escape? no one knows, but somehow he does, as suddenly he's joined gerad's gang....or has he? and, much like uncle ulty, he finally settles down warning people about his vastly-superior imposter ready to trounce you if you bet a megalixer in the colleseum. interesting tidbit: i'm pretty certain that ol' sieg is the only character in the game who TWICE cheats you out of the contents of a sweet, sweet treasure chest. food for thought: why the heck does ultros wanna impress siegfried? why would the statues impress siegfried, anyway? what exactly was ultros's plan, if he were to impersonate setzer? why does siegfried end up in a weapon shop, especially one that has no weapons for sale? it boggles the mind!!

You've got the Colloseum Siegfried backwards; it's much more logical to assume that the Siegfried you fight (and can talk to) in the Colloseum is the real deal while the one you met on the Phantom Train and who cleaned all the treasures on the way to the buried Figaro Castle is the faker.

you forgot to wonder how ultros caught in a debt with the colosseum owner..happy.gif, and who in blazes was the fake Ziegfried? maybe Chupon? maybe lonewolf??? maybe it was the real ziegfried all the time...and the chest he takes contains megaelixirs....because he escaped the phantom train and the figaro cave alive..but the most important question here is: why Ultros, Ziegfried and Chupon survived the end of the world??

Ah, I love the sheer wackiness that is Ultros. It's fun when game designers stick in something for comic releif like him. Although I thought his ties to Chupon and Zeigfried were just odd. An amphibious octopus, a theif, and an... evil wad of cotton candy? Oh game designers, what were you on?

Maybe ultros was once a human, a thief like ziegfried (maybe even his partner in crime) but he was exposed to smoe dark magic wich turnd him into a qctopus and made him completly nuts wacko.gif and then he did something that angerd ziegfried wich didn't wanted to see him again , ultros and his phsyco ( is that written wrong?) brain thougt "if I find something expensif surely he would come and then I will destroy him,hahahahahahaha...." happy.gif

" you forgot to wonder how ultros caught in a debt with the colosseum owner.."

considering how he operates throughout the rest of the game, i'd say the possibilities are endless...hey, waitaminute...MAYBE ultros hired seig to swipe the phantom train chest for the colleseum owner, seig expects payment of location of 3 statues...since you keep ultros away from said statues, he enlists with the IAF to keep away from enraged soon-to-be-colleseum owner...vector's collapse means he's horonably discharged...ends up having to work off said debt! considering who we're talking about here, i'd say that it MAKES PERFECT SENSE.

still doesn't explain the opera house, but you can't have everything.

The opera house was entirely for revenge because he hates you. Well, there, no more holes.

But why does ol' Ultros attack you in the first place? You clearly don't bump him in the head with the raft, so is it that he's just a purple bigot who hates "muscle-heads", is afraid of priests, and likes...uhh...tentacling green-haired girls?

Well, I'd say there's still a hole. Two words: Dental plan. Ulty-chan didn't get one, and gods know he needs it.

Well, upon encountering Ultros, the quote is "What? WHAT IS IT??" But who says this quote, Banon and Co. or Ultros? And what does it mean?

actually, i always thought that quote was one of the best parts of the game, next to sieg's quote which i have captured below. in both cases, it's either a really bad translation, or just worded in a way that makes you wonder. i always assumed the party was the culprit in that case, but who knows.

any ideas why uncle ulty attacks you? how`bout he lose the money for Ziegfried for stealing the phantom train in a bet with Setzer?? and then, very angry, he went to Lete river (his home) to think how get money,he come up with something really big, and you hit his head with the raft, making him forget his idea?? maybe then he want get even with Setzer by attacking Maria in the Opera house, and elaborate his complicated plan to impersoning Setzer and destroy you?? (even if the party in the opera is not the same party that meet with him first..he must be psychic or something....)that, or maybe he a just an very crazy, totally not rational thinking and talking octopus with a big debt?

I've always thought Uncle Ulty was the most hilarious FF character ever. To me, Siegfried/Ziegfried was just a side character who showed up occasionally (I didn't even make the connection between the two, to be honest), and I didn't care much for him. But the sheer humor factor of Ultros, combined with his badass idiot attitude...'lol', those were the days. *nods head*

Dental plan? Ultros needs braces laugh.gif

Pretty amazing character: he's angry, funny, irritating and compassionate (Uncle Ulty scene with Relm). Also despite being an octopus he manages to attack from land, water and air.
