Hammer from which game? Or maybe that's the key.... The hammer is the only one of those that is not game specific. There are multiple games with Mario's hammer, each does a different one.

Cape: Super Mario World
Wing Cap: Super Mario Land 2
Tanooki Suit: Super Mario Bro's 3
Metal Cap: Mario 64
Frog Suit: Super Mario Bro's 3

Hammer: Super Smash Brothers, Donkey Kong, Super Mario 3... Um... I'm sure there's more.....

Well, everybody seems to agree on hammer, but I think it's Metal cap because it's the only one that impairs Mario's jumping ability.
-OR- It could be hammer because it's the only one that doesn't help you reach areas unreachable by mormal Mario.

I think it's the Metal Cap, but because it can't be associated with a monster/animal.

Cape --> Feather (bird)
Wing Cap --> Wings (bird)
Tanooki Suit ----> Raccoon
Hammer ------> Hammer Brother (turtle)
Frog Suit --------> Frog

The Metal Cap is just a...metal cap.

It's been to long since I played mario 3, but doesn't the frog suit also totally mess up your jumping, or screw up your movement above ground.

The metal cap could also sink you to bottom of flooded areas.....

I think you could find something different from all the others with each of the mario items now that I think about it. tongue.gif

Like I said- Hammer, because it's the only item that doesn't change your mario pallete on the screen. Note, it did not say Hammer suit.

Well let's see. It's not because the sprite doesn't change (MogMaster's original answer). The hammer in the up position adds a new pose in Donkey Kong. There's a (somewhat differnt if I recall) Wing Cap in Mario 64 so it's not because of the item being in multiple games. The animal theory is ruled out because all in all, the Hammer power-up itself isn't directly related to any of the animals as well. It has nothing to do with the item's ability because I could just as easily say that the Hammer's the only item that allows you to break barrels. Also the hammer impairs your jumping ability in every game I've seen it in as well as the Frog Suit totally screwing up your walking speed. So there are no points for the Metal Cap being the only item with a trade off. All nice guesses though and they all have their merits.

MogMaster's second variation of his answer though, has some additional merit that I have missed. The hammer doesn't change ones pallete. Well, at least on the main sprite anyway. That much I'll give him. However, that is not what I had originaly meant.

Actually, the answer I intended was the Cape. It's not a powerup item that you can grap, just a sprite change. If I had listed the feather instead it would've been a nice list of those things you can snag to become more powerful. The Metal Cap makes you Metal Mario, the Hammer gives you a hammer to smash things with and the SMB 3 suits can come out of giant boxes for you to grab before putting them on. The feather is what gives you the cape though, not a smaller power up item that apears to be a cape. (Please note: While Super Koopas do wear capes that can yeild feathers, they do not directly make you caped Mario. Additionally in SMW:2 Yoshi's Island, it's a star not a feather.)

Well, I think I should give the question to MogMaster because he answered the question in its most technical form. It's your go MG.

Guess MM didn't want to post. Oh well, he lost his turn.

Alright, here's my question. I know, it is any easy one.

How many games on the Virtual Boy had title charecters from the Mario Universe?

I think you get the first whistle in the secret area at the end of level 3 in World 1, the second one in a secret area at the end of the minifortress in World 1, and the third one from a hammer bros. in a hidden part of World 2's map, IIRC.

Close enough dude.

Duck on the white block at Level 3 World 1, and dash to the end and open the chest.

FLy to the top of the ceiling before the first door, run to the end and hit the up button.

Use the hammer on the rock in front of the tree, and defeat the fire ball brothers to get the last one.

Monroe's close enough so he's up
