Kain is one of the most talked about characters of FFIV, so what is everyone's opinion of him. For me, he is not only the best in FFIV but one of the best in all Final Fantasy's.

Best character in FFIV, in my opinion.

He's probably one of the, if not the most developed characters in the game.  His dark persona and tragic inner conflicts are a central theme throughout the game.  Not to mention that he was a powerful and versatile fighter, and Jump was a really useful skill.

Plus, he's just cool.  Probably my favorite Lancer/Dragoon from any Final Fantasy game.

if kain wasn't in FFIV, then it would be just a mediocre game like FFVIII. but since there was Kain, it made the game extremely better. his storyline was well put together. he was developed extremely well. and his fighting skills were top notch. Kain is the greatest char of FFIV

I went with choice number three, for the other three were more wrong than that one was, I s'pose. He wasn't the best, but almost was!  :p

Kain is the best FF4 character, without a doubt. Jump saved me time and time again.

Kain is the best.  No question.  In battle he's priceless.  Plus he's a very developed and important character.  I personally think that he is loyal but he just has too much tension inside of himself.  Kain is haunted by what the world has smacked him with.

Regardless of what other people seem to think....  >_> .... I really liked the Cecil character.  But I think in the end Kain wins out as the best character over-all.  It was a tough choice though.

I nulled my vote.

I don't hate or love Kain.

I just think he could of been the hero instead of Cecil.  The two just took diffrent paths and got to the same place.

It's like in Robert Frost's poem.  'Two roads diverged in a yellow wood.'  There's a hidden message.  Both paths start and end in the same place.  Birth and Death.  How you get there is the question.  Kain took one path, Cecil took the other, and the got to the same place.

If I confused you, I'm sorry.  If I'm offending you I'm sorry.  If I'm to stupid for you I'm sorry.  Oh what the hey, I'm sorry no matter what I do.

i think kain was a very weak minded person, but he feels sorry after he screws up. he was easily manipulated by golbez (more than once) but i think he had a good heart.

Kain is definitely the coolest character despite the fact that he was easily manipulated. Jump rocks and Kain is way cooler than Cecil

I choose 3, it's Kain's weaknesses that make him such a good all-round character after all. I can't say he's 'the' best in FFIV, mainly because I think he's a part of a very well designed final team, so I really can't pick a fave among them mu.

I couldn't choose between the second and third. He definately had a weak mind, but he was a back stabbing S.O.B. too. He betrays you repeatedly, admits that it wasn't all Golbez's mind control, but his weakness. And then does nothing to redeem himself except act all mopey. And....on top of all that, by the end of the game he's just about the weakest character and definately the least versatile. He's soooo lucky the group spared his sorry excuse for a life. Go hide on a mountain somewhere Kain, the real men don't want you around.

I really like him because he was one of the only cahracters in FFIV that remotely interested me... Cecil bored me, I didn't like edge taht much... Rosa was good.. sorta, Rydia was great but weak.

You are harsh mate, really harsh. Kain isn't all weakminded when the King of Baron ordered Cecil and Kain to become Dark Knights, Kain said no and wanted to be a Dragoon knowing it would affect his relationship with the King. Kain did do some terrible things in the game yes, Kain stole a crystal from the party. Cecil stole the Water crystal from Mysidia. Kain burned the villagers of Mist, Cecil was with him. Kain probably kills innocents in the game(Kain is never seen killing peasants). Yet Cecil as a Dark Knight led an attack on a defenceless Mysidia. Kain goes to Mt Ordeals to seek redemption, so did Cecil.

I like both Characters because they fell from grace and instead lying down broken. They get back up and do something about it. Cecil needs motivation from the Elder of Mysidia to become a Paladin(which means taking on Mt Ordeals). Kain gets his motivation from Cecil's example.

Kain is one of the most human people in the game who gets comdemed all the time because he didn't become a Paladin like Cecil(who was forgiven).

I don't want to argue, but I don't think Kain should be judged too harshly.

Considering the way the game works, I think Kain's actions are justified near the end.

I do. In fact I love it! wink.gif

Let's examine their actions tell me which ones seem brave and noble and which seem cowardly and weak.

Cecil - Challenges the authority of his King and loses rank and title over an issue of morality. Stands up for his Ideal. Forgoes all his training in order to forsake the darkness and become a paladin. Inspires those around him.

Kain - Backstabs his best friend when he falls in love with his woman. Gives into to darkness on multiple occasions. Does not have the courage to question authority or fails to find a problem with his immoral orders.

I'm done...my heart just isn't in it tonight.

In Kain's defense, he does stick up for Cecil right at the beginning, when Cecil is stripped of command, though for all we know he was under control then, and it was all an act. Probably not, but maybe... unsure.gif

If you must however when I checked Kain was always in love with Rosa and in respect for both Cecil and Rosa he let them be. Only when he was under mind control he back-stabbed. Also when you are under mind control I'd think you wouldn't be able to question orders. Unless something was able to break the control.

Not to mention many people in his postiton would do the same. Being so overcome with love for a woman he can't have and having to endure the praises of Cecil his best friend who also has the woman he loves. That sort of thing would drive many men over the edge as it did with Kain.
