I have to pick the Dark Cloud-type thing(?) from III (it's been awhile since I've played). It's not that I don't like it/her(again, ?) it/she's just my least favorite. I thought Necron was really cool, though I couldn't help but roll my eyes at the Dark side quote.

I've only played SMRPG, Chrono Trigger, FF2us, FF3us, and FF7 (the last of which I haven't finished yet), but I think the worst (most evil) villain has to be Kefka. Lavos is just an inexplicable alien; Zeromus is merely weird and doesn't really seem that evil (for some reason), and I think Sephiroth just has a screwed up brain. Yes, Kefka does too, but Kefka seems to aim for evil and destruction, but I don't think Sephiroth does. Correct me if I'm wrong, though.
But Queen Zeal was certainly true evil. She may in some ways beat Kefka, in fact, but unfortunately she was not the final boss of CT. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. In my opinion Ultimecia was the cheesiest. With a cool name, and looking cool, and having a cool castle, she's still a waste. I didn't care enough to be mad at her because I never saw her before the end, and the end was a let down like the rest of the game is in my opinion.
Even though not as cool looking as Ultimecia, Necron I think, is a better boss. It makes more sense to have a surprise boss at the end when it's some divine force you can't quite grasp, rather than being surprised by a villainous person who was taking a vacation instead of showing up in the game. Still I thought Necron was merely okay. The Sephiroth you fight in FF7 in my opinion is the real Sephiroth and also a great villain: my favorite. ![]() -------------------- Get me off this Disciplinary Committee so I can play any FF except for FF8!!! |

Every story needs stupid annoying villans you want to kill, and I mean kill, jump up and down and kill. Palmer fits in that category perfectly.

Sephiroth helped make his own personality cliche. It wasn't HORRIBLY cliche when he was first made, IMO. His style has become extremely popular as of late however. And yeesh... I dunno who my least favorite is. But Chaos just got pwnt in the RPGDL by some kid who turns into a big ol' dragon... but BoF3 Ryu is pretty tough. So I'd say Ultimecia. She's just plain annoying.
Also, how has the above person already posted in March? Are they from the future? I'm REALLY friggin confused right about now. Hmm, the worst would be Ultimicia in FF8. The first time you see her is at the end. And it's all too cheesy even for me. I thought a lot of FF8 was pretty damn good but this final boss just plain sucked unfortunately. This battle brought no emotion out in me, no fear, no awe, no anger, nothing. Such a waste.
The next worst is the FF10 boss. What is that thing at the end? What's that all about? And justg before, Jecht or whatever his name was, was all too easy. And once again, very little emotion in these battles. 7 and 9 had great final bosses. Although obviously the very last one in 9 was a little odd, but still good fun. -------------------- 'Let that be a lesson to all oppressive vegetable sellers.' |

Quote (Tiddles @ 31st October 2002 07:17) I also think Jenova should have been the final boss of FF7 rather than Sephiroth, but that's another story. Agreed. Quote (monkey-wrench) i think his name is really stupid too, "hi im X-DEATH!!" ...which is why I prefer the fan-translation, which calls him "Exdeath". Less cheesy. "Exodus" would have been more interesting, but also more controversial. Quote (MorgueN) Sephiroth had brilliant character development. And he was an excellent fighter. Early on Sephiroth awe's you. But as far a main villian goes Sephiroth failed miserably. Why well everyone likes Sephiroth too much in order for him to get that villian feel. People were more oh I want to play as Sephiroth not fight him. I had that same urge. I never wanted to kill Sephiroth I wanted to kill Kefka and Zeromus. As far as a fight goes Sephiroth was a challenging fight except for cough mime cough Knights of the Round cough. Also Sephiroth was the first last Villian to use instant death attacks. I give him his credit fighting wise but storyline wise he was a bad villian the only really bad thing he did was kill Aeris, Zemus mapiulated millions Kefka killed millions in new and original ways. I thought he did us a favour when he sliced Jenova's head off. And when you impale your nemesis and he throws you off a bridge the Bad Ass villian gimmick is just not there. Now fighting wise worst villian of all time Zeromus. A few shurikens here and there Jump attacks some flares and constant cure 4's. It's only a matter of time before this massive hunk of bones falls apart. Agreed. Along with Quote (Dark Paladin) I think Sephiroth was the worst villain. He didn't really classify as a villain, since he didn't directly have anything to do with the actual story, just the backstory. So, turns out I have posted in this topic before (http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/forums/ipb/index.php?showtopic=534&st=31), although that post was to pass judgement on who was the worst villain in terms of character evilness. Now for quality... Zeromus and Neo-Exdeath aren't really true villains--they're just needless final-bosses put into games just to make a final battle more climactic. My most hateable villain would probably be Kefka, followed by Exdeath. Zemus isn't as hateable, but still gets the evilness across. Golbez definitely did. Shinra and its executives, along with Hojo, also get credit for being quite "nice and evil". However, Sephiroth is a very weak villain. It's like a "pity fight" to have to deal with him--you feel sorry for what that guy had to go through, and you'll likely (well, I did) feel that the best solution here is simply to get him to sit down and tell him certain truths about his life and his origin. Then everything would be so much better. (Then he could join you to murder the crikey out of Shinra and/or Jenova, which I think would be worthier villains.) -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. Yeah, Ultimecia is alot like Zemus in that respect. (You hear about them, but don't meet them until the end.) For nostalgia purposes, FFIX had a "Deus ex Machina" final boss, i.e. a final boss that appears out of nowhere. (Cloud of Darkness, Zeromus, Neo X-Death, etc.) And...all of FFX's final boss is very well explained in the story. -------------------- |

Kuja. If he had a story besides "I want to destroy the world because...I 'm crazy and I want to destroy the world!", I don't remember it. And you can only be so scary when you look like a gay porn star. (Not that I'm taking a shot at gay porn stars--they just aren't good villains.)
I think Sephiroth had a lot of potential, but it was mostly wasted. His character development would have been more meaningful if he hadn't reached a point where he was just...crazy...and just...wanted to destroy the world. Kefka is a bit of a paradox. He's the epitome of c.a.w.t.d.t.w. syndrome, but he's still one of my favourite bad guys. I guess his craziness seemed to have a little more flavor or something. -------------------- Veni, vidi, dormivi. |

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say Seymour. Did you hear this guy's voice? I don't know, this guy always got on my nerves, he's not a tough guy. Maybe it's because I didn't like FFX that much, but he especially was a weak character.

Ultimecia was probably the worst, mainly because she lacked emotion. Most FF villains do nowadays. We don't get that many evil laughs that we did back in the SNES days. Necron was also pretty bad (he didn't make any sense to me), as was Yu Yevon (crappy...guaranteed....win...grrr....). And Seymour wasn't cool either.
I don't hate Sephiroth. However, I WILL say that he is overrated. Golbez, ExDeath, and Kefka will always hold special places in my heart. -CSM This post has been edited by Crazyswordsman on 3rd March 2006 17:38 -------------------- The NEW Final Fantasy Wiki! Join us! |

Ultimecia gets alot of hate (for being unknown rather then evil) doesn't she?
Though it's been awhile since I last played VII...she is unknown. There's no mention of her...at all, for most of the game. She's not a being of pure hate or death or something like that like some other villians. (Zeromus-Hate. Necron-Death. Kefka-Evil. Sephroth-Prettyboyness) Speculation with spoilers: Possible spoilers: highlight to view She has her reasons for doing what she did, certainly she must. But they're kept secret. She's a mystery. She wants to live in an empty world. But...maybe it's just me seeing something in what may be nothing, but there's a sense of tragedy in that. Take the fact that her GF is named after the lion on Squall's ring (Griever by default). (Griever is someone that grieves after all.) Maybe Ultimecia, throught the years, lost someone important to her. Now she's trying to smash time and space into one moment to get back together with that person. That means a very certain death for everybody else and everyone hates her for it. But, think of this, Squall promised that he'd protect Rinoa, even if everyone hated her. Maybe Ultimecia is a sort of counterpoint to Squall's seemingly selfless promise. What would happen to Rinoa if Squall was killed because she was a sorcerer? Would she do something like Ultimecia is trying to do? Maybe the thing about Ultimecia was that she was so emotionless and unknown. Left it open to speculation. I mean, no one knows who Gogo is, but people speculate nevertheless, even though he's just Gogo. (No need to get into that debate though.) Something like that I guess. That's a story battle that you're not supposed to lose, so of course it's easy. Then again, YY did look like some weird...spider...orb...thingy. As for Ultimecia, there are vague hints toward her goal. (Scan her.) Along with the "Rinoa=Ultimecia" rumors, and many others. Now I can't understand why people hate Seymour. He actually is a much better villian than most ff villians. Really, only Kefka is better IMO. Of course, Kefka should win by default in every villian battle... Anyway, Possible spoilers: highlight to view The whole "saving people from the pain of life" reason was a nice new change, to me. Quote (Zeromus_X @ 4th March 2006 23:33) Now I can't understand why people hate Seymour. He actually is a much better villian than most ff villians. The main reason I don't like Seymour is that he comes off as, well, not evil. He never laughs, he always is very serious and shallow. Also, he tends to become a bit repetative at times (always saying to Yuna "You are on an important mission to rid the world of Sin.") all the way up until you get to his house. And even, then he still talks in a shallow voice when he reveals his plan (which loses all its meaning of evilness. I seriously thought Mika (was that the pope-guy's name?) was more evil than Seymour). And he is still repetative, and too Sephirothy for me. Lastly, his voice sounds like something Wayne Knight would do when he was high, heh. And it wasn't good, especially because Wayne Knight (and I know he didn't voice Seymour, just saying Seymour sounded like him) can be very evil at times. Your comment about Kefka is very true, though. -CSM -------------------- The NEW Final Fantasy Wiki! Join us! |

Worst FF villain? I would say Scarlet, Heidegger, and Palmer. I just couldn't take them seriously as villains. Hojo is a bad villain also, but at least he had great character develpment.
Necron would be second because he appears outta nowhere and throws cliche lines before the final battle. It was good, however, that Necron was actually difficult to defeat after the cakewalk with Kuja (my all-time favorite FF villain). -------------------- "Thought I was dead, eh?
