A got a few.
Populous.- Like THE original RTS game. Its so lame i have to say its cool. Most old FF's. Face it- This is a niche forum. Outside of here hardly anyone i know has enjoyed anything before 7. Morrowind.- I see alot of Naysayers for bethesdas recent golden attribute to my life. Alot of people didn't like it for some reason. I enjoy it a whole bunch. Mystical Ninja- Any of them. One of my alltime favorite series. The 64 version was an incredible and funny RPG. Great music too. I agree with the Ancient. A boy and his blob was a great game. -------------------- If you've been mod-o-fied, It's an illusion, and you're in-between. Claymates was pretty fun too. Got pretty hard in the later levels, but this is one of the change into various animals to get past obstacles games, alla Kid Chameleon. The level design could be frustrating at times, but the clay-like graphics added a interesting atmosphere to the game.
There is also a game made by Neo Demiforce called Drymouth. Its an original, public domain ROM (so its prefectly llegal to download and own). Its a puzzle game, wherein you punch blocks out of a grid to unveil a picture. You'll need a Gameboy emulator to play it, but its pretty fun. Its got multiple endings for various levels of challenges, too. -------------------- And behold, I saw a Pale Gaming System, and the name of he who rode it was Squaresoft, and Enix followed him. |

E.V.O. is pretty underrated for some reason,it was made by Enix for the SNES,the game is basically evolution, you start out as a fish who must eat to evolve then eventually you'll turn into a dinosaur then a bird and finally a human.I don't know why nobody knows about this game,it's AWESOME!! *ahem* you must play this game(if you can still find it).
Also Landstalker for the Genesis is underrated for some odd reasen(i can't find anyone who knows about this game!),and finally Jet Grind Radio For Dreamcast is underrated too.In Landstalker you play a treasure hunter whse looking for king nole's treasure, but someone else is also looking for the treasure and he's trying to stop you.In Jet Grind Radio you play as a gang called The GG's whose trying to protect their turf from other gang's with graffiti. It's a graffiti war I tells ya. -------------------- "...But we will succeed. Underrated games? Well, probably not that weird, but...
Tail Gator (GB): You play as this alligator whose weapon is (not teeth) his tail! Use it to whack open chests or whack down enemies. Collect enough 'power' and the tail lets loose a beam when it's swung. Collect hearts to improve your health; get the key to go onto the next room. It's not that hard a game--at times more tedious than difficult--but it's a pretty rare game, it seems, being a single non-series game for the old original Game Boy, which (sadly) no one seems to notice anymore. I found it a lot of fun though. Super Mario RPG: I'm not sure if this really is that underrated, although I do know of some RPG players who don't quite consider this an RPG and also diss it for its childishness. I love the humor in this game, and the gameplay is so cool too. Yes, it's easy, but not everything in life should be hard, should it? Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow: They're not really that weird--more so regarded by a lot of people as lame/childish/stupid/sucky because of the way Pokemon is today--overadvertised, overmarketed, overdone crap. These three oldest Pokemon games actually had decent and suitably simple gameplay, which, although unrealistic, wasn't really messed with by Nintendo's subsequent trying in vain to make Pokemon games more realistic. Also, 151 Pokemon is quite enough for people to master (for me at least). The only thing I didn't like was the fact that there was a noticeable difficulty jump from Giovanni to the Elite Four--other than that the gameplay was pretty smooth. And you could get hints from the first season TV show too (too bad the show's also gone lame these days). -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. The Harvest Moon series. I'm not sure just how underrated the series is, but I'd never played (only slightly heard of) it until my roomate let me borrow Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town for GBA. I'm hooked now. It's addicting but rather strange (there basically is no plot; it's an endless game where you tend a farm, crops animals, marry if you want to, etc.), and it's a good time-waster for travel and stuff. Currently, it rates up there with the FF series for me.

not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but, even though it's not weird, i think gunstar heroes for the genesis was pretty underrated. that game was awesome!

Quote (Super Moogle @ 21st December 2004 18:38) The Bouncer. Not too many people have played this game, and those that have sometimes think of it as a sub-standard replacement for an early PS2 Final Fantasy. But when you take away all the comparisons, I think it's a really solid game. The fighting mechanic is fun in the old beat-'em-up style, and the plot, though not revolutionary, was entertaining. The characters were interesting as well, for the most part. The graphics were gorgeous too, of course. Something about the feel of The Bouncer really appealed to me, and though it is generally remembered fondly, I think it deserves a little more attention. My only problems with The Bouncer was its length and the difficulty of the last boss. I really breezed through the rest of the game, but that last boss took many many trys to beat. Also that game makes you reload your save everytime you die, which only adds to my frustration. Also, that long cinema before the final fight is unskipable, and watching the same CG Clip over and over and over again gets tedious. As for underrated games, my pick would be the mega man like, Little Samson for the NES. It had four playable characters, each with unique abilitites. The platforming was awsome, unfortunetly I've only ever met one other person whos owned the game, and a handfull who have heard of it. -------------------- <Nealio> Seymour sounds like evil Winnie the Pooh |

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest (SNES)-I say it's underrated because everyone I know whose heard of the game say it's a bad game.I personnally liked the game because it's my 2nd RPG i've played, and got pretty far in.
And also I don't think Pokemon is an underrated,It's the most popular crap in the US. -------------------- "...But we will succeed. We pride ourselves in making the impossible possible." |

Flying Dragon (N64)
I swear to God, this is probably my favorite fighting game ever, even amongst faves like Mortal Kombat II and Tekken 3. It has a lot of RPG settings like, when you win tournaments, you get prizes that have relevance to your characters (there are hundreds of prizes) and you can buy things at this shop to get your characters better skills. It seems really stupid when I try to describe it, but it was a very fun game. I wish I would have bought it at K-Mart that one time for ten bucks; now the store is gone and so are the low-cost games and the bad selections. -------------------- It's gonna be a glorious day I feel my luck can change |

Harvest Moon series (as mentioned before) - I'd rather be going around growing crops, raising cows and chickens, and trying to get married, than to save the world from invading aliens by riddling them with bullets.
Majesty (PC Game) - A Fantasy Kingdom simulator, where you're the monarch and you recruit heroes, expand your kingdom, and defeat the evil hordes of monsters lurking just outside your borders (or inside, for that matter). Catch is, you can't control anyone directly. You order that an inn be erected, but your peasants will have to feel inclined to build it for you. You can recruit heroes and place bounties on enemies or lairs, but it's up to them if the gold is worth the risk or not. Fun game. |

It's just so much fun I have no idea how many times I've played through it. That was my absolute favorite game before I played the FF series. The weirdest game I can think of right now is a Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers game my brother had for the NES. It was really odd, there were enemies like rabbits with vacuum cleaners. It was a pretty stupid game but the 2 player mode was cool because both people played simultaneously. I would always be Dale and make Murray carry me through the entire game and never do diddly squat to kill anything. I drove him crazy. Ah, good times.... |

Not to be angry or anything but I already knew FFMQ was a bad game,It's just that I liked it because it was easy to get into (next to CT).Big games like FF3 & FF2 were to confusing to me,cause I just kept on going through the story without realizing were I was supposed to go! FFMQ was a little bit different it was easy to get into,I mean the story was simple:get 4 crystals.I know it ain't exactly the best final fantasy, but I still like it.The music was cool too.
Konami Krazy Racers(GBA)-Surprisingly this game is underrated (probably because some of the characters are not well known or have not been introduced to the US(however I say SOME because you may familiar faces in this game.Literally.))the game is like Mario Kart but it features konami characters, even the ninjas from Metal Gear Solid & Mistical Ninja(SNES) are here.In my opinion, this game is way better than the Mario Kart games(except the GCN one).I definately recommend this game to anyone who are crazy for kart games. -------------------- "...But we will succeed. Ah, Oregon Trail. I used to love that game back when those old Apple II computers were still widely used. I loved hunting but never catching enough food, watching my "family" die of all kinds of interesting diseases, and see all my oxen collapse thirty minutes in. Hey, I never said I was good at the game!

Hmm... Some of these games y'alls are mentioning aren't all that weird or underrated. Allow Laszlow to set things right.
Ikaruga, originally for Dreamcast and I think re-released on Gamecube, is a tremendously fun and very difficult game, the best top-down shooter I've ever played. You had to switch between black and white shields in order to damage black and white enemies, but the same thing happened to you. Weird. The Samurai Shodown (not a misspelling) fighting game series for NeoGeo and in the arcades. Fighters are my second-favorite genre, and this is a classic series that should be in 2d fighter Valhalla just below Street Fighter. Oh, and back to the "these games aren't actually underrated but we don't talk about them enough" category, we have Skies of Arcadia, which critics loved but no one played; it just might be my favorite RPG ever (tied with the ever-popular CT). -------------------- |

Know what else was good? Sailor Moon: Another Story.
I discovered this RPG just after seeing Season 3 of sailor moon (which was, infact, the fist season I ever saw). This turned out to be perfect timing, because this Sailor Moon RPG takes place right after wards; its sort of a Sailor Moon Season 3.5, so I went in knowing all the characters (well, the Sailor Senshi anyway). Anyhoo, this is a game I would recommend; despite relying on the time-worn concept of the Turn-Based, Random Battle system, it does offer a solid playing experience. The sound is good, there's actual voice acting during battle (this is an SNES game, I might add), and the graphics and sound fit well. The sprites do a good job conveying the look and feel of the anime characters. The storyline is surprisingly good. Granted, you must have seen at least the first three seasons of Sailor Moon (or at least have a general background knowledge of the events), or you won't know any of the background info they reference throughout the game, but this game's story fits perfectly with the overall style of the show. The main villain is scary, the hencemen can be sympathized with, the character interaction is dead on, and the plot, though very linear, is broken up into multiple chapters, giving the story arch an episodic feel, as though this game is an entire season in and of itself. Although only a Sailor Moon fan would probably get the most out of this game, even someone with a passing knowledge of the show might find this game pretty entertaining. -------------------- And behold, I saw a Pale Gaming System, and the name of he who rode it was Squaresoft, and Enix followed him. |

EVO, Live-A-Live, and Maniac Mansion are all fun games. Surprised no one's mentioned these little gems:
Magic Pengel (PS2) - Anime-styled cell-shaded pokemon-esque game, but the catch is you can create pretty much anything you want as monsters. For instance, my team includes a tonberry, Sephiroth, and a walking alarm clock. If you're willing to draw it, you can fight with it. It's E-Rated, but it's not what I'd call a kid's game... Possible spoilers: highlight to view It's the only E-Rated game I know of that includes a grown man shooting a child and a main character that commits suicide Katamari Damacy (PS2) - Simple, fun, original, and a plot that makes ya feel like you're on more illegal substances that Cheech, Chong, and Robert Downey Jr combined! I know i have this in another post but i think the wierdest game (yet VERY enjoyable) was shadow madness. A shadow that consumes villages and leaves the survivors insane is very interesting in my opinion and the storyline is excellent the music is f**kin cool to i have searched for it over the internet but to no avail. people call it a ff7 dupe but it has its own storyline, the only thing that could have possibly been duped is the graphics. Wierdest part though i'd say is when you find this wierd cauldron thing you get as an item and it tells you not to use it or it will bring the end of the world. (i used it) yeah it shows you a long sequence of wierd disturbing images and then ubruptly the screen goes black and it stays like that
![]() ![]() I recommend anyone who likes storylines in rpg's should pick it up, its for ps. VERY wierd and VERYYYYYYYYYYYYYY under rated! -------------------- Peace sells... but Whos buyin? -Megadeth You wont be saying that when you get a lead pipe across the head -James (Darkness Illusions II) |

Though not necessarily an underrated game, but I considered MediEvil (sp?) to be a weird one and a game that I could never take as a serious gothic game (regardless of how hard I tried...). I mean come on, your own arm (which could be thrown) and a drumstick to combat the forces of evil? At least Cloud had a Nail Bat and Cid a Mop. Who used a limb or a piece of food to kill the ultimate evil?

Already been mentioned:
ZAMN! (Zombies Ate My Neighbors) Earthbound (my favouritest non FF RPG evar) Legend of the Mystical Ninja Harvest Moon Oregon Trail (old skool ROX) Sailor Moon RPG Maniac Mansion (and "Zak McKraken and the Alien Mindbenders" too!) One game that I absolutely love but not many people have played is Little Ninja Bros. (NES). I've mentioned this game in some other topics before. It's a combination of an action game/RPG. Highly unusal, I find it. Green Magi: I am probably one of the biggest FFIV fans out there. My tastes are decidedly old skool FF. Dragon Warrior series have sortof been underrated here in the US. GameCube has some sequels to Harvest Moon and I think on PS2, as well. Haven't played 'em. Animal Crossing seems to be a more Harvest Moon-ish sortof game which is cool because they're like the Sims, which is not an underrated game. DarkStalkers, American McGee's Alice, and MediEvil are the most gothic games and they've pretty much been underrated as well. Sudeki for Xbox is a great RPG, but it was surpassed by Fable. Both were incredibly short, though. Morrowind is a great open-ended game, too. Black and White's a good underrated game, which was made by the creators of Fable and has RPG-elements as well. SMRPG is a really great game and I'm surprised because I'd never heard of it until I played the mod.
