Major involvement in the Final Fantasy IV section of CoN.
This is a rough one, seeing as Uematsu was brilliant in nearly all of them. As many have mentioned, it's a pity VIII isn't on there. Even if it was, I'd have a difficult time deciding between VIII, IX, X, VI, and IV. The rest (namely VII) had their own merits, but I enjoyed the five aformentioned games' soundtracks the most. I'll null my vote, since I'm so undecided. rolleyes.gif

FFVII. No contest. Main Theme (which I used for my GCSE Music coursework), Cosmo Canyon and Under The Rotting Pizza are my personal faves (also Cid's Theme I like, and Aeris' Theme....the list goes on. And on.)

Pretty difficult but I'd go with FFVII. It had the best variety of tracks overall: the cool Shinra and Turks themes, the Cosmo Canyon theme, the battle themes (each one was great, the Jenova battles were my favourite ones), the touching Aeris theme, the best version of the prelude theme, etc. Each one was great and perfectly fit the scenarios of the story, which only heightened the game's experience.

FFVIII is a close second as its ending theme Eyes on Me is probably my favourite FF track of all-time, aswell as the piano and theme versions of the track, they're very touching. The Laguna battle Theme also sounds awesome, as does the standard battle theme.

FFVI comes third as the music also suits the scenarios very well, especially for Kefka. The World Map themes are also my favourites after FFIX's world map theme, and the Celes theme is also well-orchestrated.

FFMQ had some of the best battle themes although the game sucked, it would have been amazing if they were used for any other FF game instead. The best battle theme overall in my opinion is FFX's Seymour battle theme, that just sounds too awesome.

...And that's about it with my ramblings.

FFVII and FFIV are probably a tie, and CT isn't far behind.

FFVII has one or two really nice stuff in it, while in FFIV, everything is consistently great.

Chrono Trigger has 2nd best music, Final Fantasy VI 3rd best for me, Final Fantasy IX 4th and 5th best is Final Fantasy X. The one with the best music in the game is Final Fantasy VII.

I liked 3j :-/. It had awesome music, if you think about it. Put the music from FF3 into a modern day terms and not so 8 bit sounding. It had some great songs. Thats generally the way I judge FF music, just to make it fair between systems. I equalize it by upgrading the 8bit ones in my mind, otherwise it would be 6 hands down smile.gif. Dancing Mad still holds the best song title, but soundtrack wise I really liked 3.

All the music is fantastic but I have to go with FFVI. The character themes are the best and has the best ending theme.

I can't decide. Tactics, VI, and VII all have some pieces that I just love. But, I have to go with VI because of the WoR world map music. Words cannot express how much I love hearing that tune. Puts me at peace...

ff7 wins, because so much of the music in it is brill.
one winged angel.. wow.
I really love that song at the end of ff9 that dagger sings, what's it called again?
a huge amount of the music in 8 seemed to be copied from 7.... but changed slightly. still, eyes on me was pretty good.

Thought I'd bring the topic back with a reiteration of my love of IIIj's soundtrack http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00995/

Everybody should download that and tell me that 3j didn't have a good soundtrack. You can't. Not only does that hold true to the original song, but the added technology is godly. As far as I'm concerned that would have been the song if the sound technology we have now existed back then. Although we'll see when the DS version comes out.

Definitely FFIV! The music is my most fave out of all the FFs and I especially like the vocal versions of some of the songs in FF: Pray and FF: Love will grow. The Theme of Love and the Main Theme are my favorite FF songs. In fact, I’m taking piano classes to learn how to play these songs. biggrin.gif

I picked "Final Fantasy" on the poll cause all the series had nice music smile.gif. Some of my favorites are in FFVI, FFVII and FFVIII. I liked Terra's Theme in FFVII as well as Dancing Mad, The Main Theme in FFVII as well as One Winged Angel, Nightmare's Beginning (I can play this on the piano), Holding my thoughts in my Heart (Piano), and Aeris' Theme. FFVIII has really nice songs with amazing quality, and the favorites in this game are Ami (on piano), Ultemecia's Castle (Favorite final lair btw), The Man with the Machine Gun (Such an awesome song), Find your Way, My Mind, and Blue Fields.

I didn't like music from Tactics, but after playing it, my seven year old brother hums the battle song all the time, it gets on my nerves mad.gif.

I should say FFVII and FFVIII had awesome music, some of the songs are on my playlist anyways.

Hmm FFT/FF8 isn't up there pinch.gif Well it's really hard to pick, I haven't even played them all but they all had their few special songs. But FFT really had more of a classical and epic feel to their music, which I really liked. Most if not all of them display a lot of emotions and urgency. Some of my favorites were "Trisection," "Back fire," and "Requiem." I really liked them all though.
My other pick was FF8 (obviously) It just had a lot of songs that I liked in it, as opposed to the other soundtracks. I liked "Balamb Garden," "Eyes on me," "Man with the Machine gun," "Edea's Parade," and "Mods de Chocobo"...Really the list goes on. smile.gif

I loved FFV's soundtrack. The Anthology was ruined, but the Super Famicom version OWNS. I just can't stand these awesome tracks from the game:

Clash on the Big Bridge (Black Mages are EVEN better)

The Decisive battle (Incredible.. Longer than "The last battle"?!)

The prelude (I like the speed of the harp, and i love the voice and flute)

Final Fantasy (I just gotta love the echo)

Lenna's theme (Better than Rosa's and Rinoa's W00T!!)

Four Warriors of Dawn (Why am I the only one who loves such an awesome soldier-ish track like this?)

The Last Battle (The intro was a bit off, but then it sounded awesome with the drums)

Tenderness In the Air (Probably the happiest soundtrack for a town)

Harvest (Didn't they have this in FF8, where if you choose the guitar, footsteps, flutes, and i forgot the other instrument at the FisherMan's horizon in disc 2?)

Ex-Death's theme (100% definition of that thing)

Unknown lands (Galuf's world)

Battle Theme (Though it's short, it still my favorite battle track, second FFVII's!)

Sadness (Like the one that plays when some person dies in FFV)

My second favorite sound tracks are both FFVI and FFVII tied. Third is FFIII's, and fourth is FFIV's and FFIX's as a tie too..

Has anyone heard some songs from Hellion Sounds. I know the Black Mages are great but Hellion sounds are awesome, especially if you enjoy heavy metal. Too bad you can only get it in Japan, but I got it smile.gif. They turned the Final Fantasy Mystic Quest battle theme into one of the best things I've ever heard, and yes, I said "Final Fantasy Mystic Quest" (which is almost never mentioned tongue.gif).

Clash on the Big Bridge is nice, only favorite from FFV though.

And to add, one of my favorite songs was Apoplexy in FFT, that song was so drawn into battle.

(FFT has more of a accurate medieval atmosphere than any other FF, with the music, concepts and somewhat decent naming of the characters, and for once Square managed to pick out good "medieval" names)

For its time, FFVI takes the cake, with FFVII being a close second. FFVII was better in some ways, but FFVI was phenomenal for the SNES

I understand that it IS your favorite. But, which version did you hear most frequently? Super Famicom? Playstation?.. The PlayStation, no doubt, sucked crap at music quality, even Clash on the Big Bridge.. If you have listened to the original Super Famicom version, you'll like more songs besides Clash on the Big Bridge, trust me smile.gif

I liked so many of the FF soundtracks that it was hard to choose. 6 had the best game only music (meaning its not something you could throw in the box at a party and get away with it happy.gif ) so i chose 10 because of the few heavy tecno tracks and if memory serves me correctly KMFDM did "Another World Awaits You" and KMFDM rocks the people down town.

I loved FFIV's soundtrack, as flat as it was. A little work and I'd listen to it a lot more. There are some taht I don't really like, but for the most part, this soundtrack was gold. But even more, I love the FFIV OC Remixes. wub.gif

A close second is FFVI. Even though they're more developed than the FFIV songs, they don't got the right vibe to them. All the songs are sad, except for Mog's theme. That song is definintely my favorite from that soundtrack.

I still like Clash on the Big Bridge, and I did play the Super Famicom version (english translation). Wait, there is also the Cave song in FFV which was nice, but most of the music was kinda filler (Cleft of Dimension/Void music got really boring after 2 hours in that place). There is the Lonka Ruins song, so there are quite a few. But the best is Clash on the Big Bridge smile.gif.
