How much Speed is enough

I have kept the Odin esper and given him to each character at level-up, so that my characters will increase in Speed. However, I'm just under Level 60 now and realizing that I am only going to have a limited amount of level-ups in the future. I'm wondering when I should start taking advantage of the big Vigor+2 and HP+50% bonuses of the other Espers?

Just be intuitive. Say you've got a character that's pretty slow, like Cyan. I'd keep the Speed + on until you're comfortable with his speed. You shouldn't give every character every esper for however long, giving Locke speed+ would be kind of pointless, seeing as he's one of the faster characters. Don't try to make everyone especially excellent, just play to their strengths and buffer their glaring weaknesses. If a character is dying a lot, give them HP+ 50%. If a character is a little weak, Stength+. Go with what you need and when, don't add stats for the sake of it.

I personally kept Odin on until each person had learned Meteor. In that time there were about two level ups. If you want a fast team, go with Haste or better yyet Haste 2 and Slow on the enemies. It's easier and often more effective than Speed +2.

Hehe, the topic makes you sound like a drug pusher! =3

I personally raised Gau with speed from level 50 to 65. It was by far enough to make him an unstoppable killing machine, otherwise I'd just agree with Mimic, speed up those who seem to slow because the bonuses to magic, strength, defence, and HP matter much morerer..er.

I've never really gone the speed bumping route. I've heard that its handy to have turns coming up faster just because you can react to changes in battle easier... but even without boosting speed, hasting your party members will give you a pretty nice boost anyways and lets you boost your other stats like stamina, vigor, and magic.

Thanks for the help!

I'm mostly focusing on HP+50% for my Atma Weapon character, and Strength+2 for my others. I like being able at the end of the game to give my main fighter (Riva aka Edgar) the Atma Weapon, Illumina, Offering, and Genji Glove!

"WHOMP! 9999 damage! WHOMP! 9999 damage! WHOMP! 9999 damage! WHOMP! 9999 damage! WHOMP! 9999 damage! WHOMP! 9999 damage! WHOMP! 9999 damage! WHOMP! 9999 damage!"

The atma weapon description is misleading. Your maximum hp amount does not make a difference on your atma weapon damage. Rather, it is determined by your level and how full your HP is, not how much HP you have total.

Personally, I gave Locke Odin until his speed was maxed. Then I gave him strength +2 until his level maxed. Then I sent him thru the third part of Kefka's Tower......alone. It was awesome. Genji Glove+Offering+Atma+Illumina+I move twice as fast as everyone=enemis saying "i r dead, blarg."

Very high speed boosting is great for Mog and Gau since their skills are automatic. For everyone else, if you often find yourself waiting for characters to charge up their ATBs, give them speed boosts. Otherwise don't worry about it. Here's my interpretation of speed ratings:

20s: Bad
30s: Average
40s: Good
50s: Great
60s+: Wow
