I was wondering if people could comment on the usefullness of these two classes based on the Dawn of Souls version.
I have read about them but have yet to keep them in a party. From what I can gather, the monk is hard to hit, making him hard to kill. I have never had much luck with dodging though. I was also wondering how useful the Red Wizard was. I see he can use some of the usefull spells like exit, and can cast elemental spells that damage everyone, but in the end game how useful are both classes? Thanks again. ![]() -------------------- "Look at me! I'm a receptionist! G'fa ha ha!" Quote Ultros |

Most people here will Vouch for the monk as the ultimate fighter. And To an extent I agree. Past level 10 hes a machine. At least in the NES one. I think in the DoS one where monster evasion was lowered a WHOLE lot hes more effective in the begining. But All I can tell you is on the NES version he kicked a whole lot of ass when he hit those higher levels. Thats for damn sure. So i would imagine the DoS monk is equally if not more powerful. I Suggest you bury him in the back of the party though as Kung Fu Gear isn't all that spectacular at blocking attacks
The Red Mage is usually pretty good. I generally have one in my party. Gets a decent amount of Magic and can wield the good swords. Medium armor isn't too bad though ![]() -------------------- If you've been mod-o-fied, It's an illusion, and you're in-between. The monk hits for a lot more damage than the other classes (I think it's because he gets more criticals than everyone else as a Master). But he ends up getting hit more often and for more damage than the other characters.
Red Mage/Wizard is ok. I have one, and his physical attack is barely enough to take down a monster in one hit, and his magic is good, provided he's your only mage/wizard. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

I've not used Monks/Black Belts much, but the Red Mage is a great supplement to a physical team. If you're got a bunch of Fighters, throwing in a RM and a BM usually rounds out the team well enough, since your Fighters will need less healing and the RM can handle himself and the Black Mage.
That's just my experience, though. ![]() -------------------- ~Status Report~ * Completed... Dragon's Head * Completed... Soldiers of the Empire: Disciples (release pending) * In Progress/Undecided... Of Love and Betrayal * Planning/Assembly... Where it all Began |

I only have FF1 as per FFOrigins on PS and I have a Monk and a Red Mage in my party. I find the Monk to be a very potent physical attacker and after he reaches a certain level, he's more effective bare-handed, which gives you one less character to buy weapons for. My Red Mage has done good for me so far. I'm liking the Sword, White Magic, and Black Magic combo.

I would suggest getting both if you can. In the DoS version, I'm at Hellfire Chasm(4th time, after Sunken Shrine) and my characters are at Level 70 something. My Knight and Master are at 999 HP and my White Wizard and Red Wizard have 700-800 HP with 999 MP. This is sortof off-topic, but, how do you buy magic from Lufenia. I see buildings, but I can't go through them.

[GBA version] - There's a black magic shop and a white magic shop in Lufenia away from the main town, through the hole in the wall on the northeast corner. Follow a slightly discolored path and you'll find the both magic shops in the same building, where you can buy Full-Life and Flare for 40,000 gil apiece.
If your next question is how did I know that, the answer is because I just compiled it a few hours ago (and I'll pm that to you once I proofread it, Rangers). This post has been edited by laszlow on 20th February 2005 22:59 -------------------- |

Yeah, now I wanted to have a Black Wizard. I want to see what Flare and Warp looked like.
