Ok we all remember the early fight that Cecil has with Kain when Kain first betrays the group. You have to fight as Cecil against Kain but no matter what (unless you have a cheat in which I never use and find pointless) Kain wins. I want to know who would you have wanted to win the fight?

Personally from the second he showed up on the game Kain was the man. He should have been the main character and in my opinion the most "human" character in all the FF games. I just wish I could have controlled Kain and killed Cecil and taken Rosa for my own, whether she liked it or not

I do think C/Kain was a bit more developed characterwise. Not that I don't like Cecil, but it seems Cain got a bum deal. It made sense for him to win then, and despite Cecil's righteous Paladin skills I still think Cain could take him.

I definately say Kain. He was just better. cecil is trying to assault hiim, Kain is just up in the air. Hands down. Cecil would be busy trying to cast crappy whitemagic while kain landed on his head.

That's a hard one... Cecil is the better person (morally), but I sympathize with Kain and his going through troubles. That doesn't make him bad, just human. Besides... Cecil is an ALIEN!!!

I'd have to say that I would want Kain to win that battle as Kain is freakin' awesome and could easily, as a dragoon, rough up that puny Cecil

Well, at the time, Kain was powered up by being possessed by Golbez/Zemus, and he HAD to beat Cecil so he would be too weak to prevent Rosa's kidnapping.
Under normal cicumstances, Cecil would beat Kain easily.

Kain all the way Dragoons, although they are often underused, in many FF games are always some of the best characters when they are included. Kain is no exception, and I always thought that his lances did better Damage than Cecil. I was seriously expecting uber Cecil after mt ordeals but was sad when he basically got cure magic and a sprite change.

Okay everyone Kain didn't have enhanced strength due to possession. Those insane hit points were to make Cecil lose even at Lvl99. Though if someone was insane enough, a lvl99 Cecil could prevail. But the outcome would be the same Cecil would lose and Rosa gets kidnapped. So here's what happens in a fair fight.

Dark Knight VS Dragoon

The Dark Knight is physically weaker than the Dragoon and has only the dark wave that would be useless. The Dragoon's jump ability gives him protection and the edge in the battle. The Dragoon is a clear winner.

Paladin VS Dragoon

After a Dragoon lands he is open to attack. I waited on my menu bar for Kain to land then attacked and never missed. And if I had a Paladin I'd do the same. Being controlled by dark powers, might make Kain weaker against Holy attacks. Also the ability to heal would be considered a great help. The Paladin is also physically stronger and would stand a better chance. It would be a close call, but I'd give it to Cecil.

And Overall in the game we could see Cecil was the clear winner. Just because a character isn't percieved as perfect doesn't mean he's the best developed, storyline wise.

I just always liked Cecil a little bit better... I don't really know why, but I did. Actually Cecil has probably weighed out to be my favorite FF character so far, so I'm sure you can guess who I voted for.

Realistically, Cecil. I mean, the Jump attack isn't invincible, guys, because as soon as Kain lands, he's weak to counterattack. Also, Jump even connecting isn't guaranteed. It can't be too hard to dodge. Also, if I recall, Paladins were a bit stronger physically stronger than Dragoons, so even on the ground, Cecil would have the advantage, strength wise. Weapon wise, Kain has a spear, which gives him the advantage of weaponry.

But, even then, Cecil has White Magic. As long as Kain doesn't stab Cecil in the brain or anything, he could just heal himself for quite a while.

Actually, to contradict my own answer, Cecil was still a Dark Knight when he and Kain fought. So it's not Paladin Cecil, it's DK Cecil. I still stand beside what I said, though. Cecil all the way.

i think kain is better even though true jump isn't invincible it can waste mp and all your attacks and when kain lands is the only time you can attack him and the rest of the time he is invincible

Either way i think kain wins i mean he would have to know at least cure 3 for the paladin to win cause the paladins to busy curing himself to attack and if cecil did know cure 3 he would easily outclass kain because kain would be like level10

Just noting that the author of the post did not ask who you think would be likely to win, but who you would prefer to win. This is not about their combat prowess so much as who you like best. At least going by what they said.

Mind you I find your arguments to be good. Cecil, tough as he is, would have trouble hitting an airborn target such as Kain. Though I think he would heal when Kain was in the air, not while being attacked. Once Kain had landed from an attack, Cecil would get in his attack too. I'm guessing that the jump attack would have done more damage though.

I would have liked for Cecil to win that battle, personally. There's so much hype over Kain, and I hate overhyped characters. Yes, he was a very nice addition to my party, but I tended to lean more towards Cecil. So, my vote goes to Cecil.

That encounter aside, Kain vs Cecil (in either job) is generally a hands-down victory for Cecil anyway, unless he started with 1 HP or something.

Kain is stronger. The fact that he won showed Cecil the the path of the Darknight is inferior to the powers of light, and that Cecil needed to rise above his status as a darknght.

And what's this whitemagic nonsense? Kain deals out more damage than Cure2 would ever heal in one turn. GGNORE Cecil.

It doesn't have to heal the full damage that Kain deals, just enough to ensure that in the long run Cecil will doing more damage. (Healing while Kain is in the air and attacking Kain while he's on the ground.) I honestly can't say who would win for sure, but again... The author asked who we wanted to win, not who we thought would win.

Actually, I dunno who would win. Cecil hits harder regularly and has slightly better armor. I guess it would come down to whom randomly hits whom for mor damage each round. If they were at the same level, it would be too close to call. I like Cecil more though, all Kain does is jump, although he is very good at that.

^^ earlier in the game, as a Dark Knight, Cecil was quite capable of kicking Kain's ass. lol, But later on in the levels (for the sake of the argument & Cecil still being a Dark Knight) Kain tends to rise up by a margin.. and in return he could kick Cecil's ass repsectively, lol. Different story w/ Cecil and his Paladin though.

Although I like Cecil quite a bit, Kain is just too badass.

In an actual fight between the two, Cecil would win. Cecil has a greater attack power, greater HP, greater defensive rating (I think...), Kain just has... jump o.o

And that won't help him all that much if Cecil is curing inbetween Kain's jumps and attack him when he lands.

In an actual real life battle Kain would win since he can jump really high... and Cecil... can't do any acrobatics...

Kain would be able to win over Cecil easily. Kain can jump and avoid Cecil's attacks, then land on him and deal huge damage. And Cecil's healing magic? It wouldn't be able to heal him enough before Kain's next jump. Kain is also cooler than Cecil even after he turns into a paladin because he's a dragoon.
