Which character did you like best, not for his or her battle strengths, but his or her connection to the story, his or her thoughts and traits, etc?
I really have to say Setzer. He was the guy who had it all: Money, airship, servants. But he knew that there were risks of losing them if he had helped the Returners, but yet knowing their cause was just (also because of that bet with Celes that he lost), he joined the cause, and lost much of his stuff (the first airship and everything on it. Luckily, there was the second airship). -------------------- Nine-hundred ninety-nine billion nine-hundered ninety-nine million nine-hundred ninety-nine thousand nine-hundred ninety-nine bottles of beer on the wall... |

a big reason why i like Sabin so much is because of his story. I mean, it'll bring a tear to your eye.
A man so torn up by his father's death that he'll trade the throne, a sign of power, to avenge his father. How many people do you think would do that? plus the brothership between him and Edgar is awesomely done. Yes, Sabin has my favorite story line. [honarble mention: Terra] -------------------- "When I turn the page The corner bends into the perfect dog ear As if the words knew I'd need them again But at the time, I didn't see it." ~"This Ain't a Surfin' Movie" - Minus the Bear |

there's just so many good dynamic chars in this game.
![]() Terra: She goes from slave to leader, makes friends, finds her heart's desire and then leaves it to defeat Kefka. Shadow: the definition of hard knock life. Gau: I mean geeze, he knows kung fu! ![]() Cyan: the Empire took so much from him. accepting The Empire's "surrender" must have been hell. I can just imagion him sitting at the table fingering his katana, then Terra reaches over, puts a hand on his shoulder and tells him it's ok. ![]() -------------------- "Number One, I order you to go take a number two." |

alot of characters had a cool story to them.
my favorites were.. Cyan, Shadow, and Locke. You guys know how the characters are so i dont really need to explain why i chose these three. it pretty much the same reasons why everyone else picked these characters.. -------------------- Why do kamakazi pilots wear helmets? |

Sabin and Setzer were both fantastic characters, wih great development.
Vivi (FF9) Â was probably my favorite. The little guy had no family, no friends, just be himself. See him in Alexandria at the beginning of the game? He needed guidance. And eventually...
Edit: Ha, I just realized this is a FF6 topic. Whoopsie. I'll keep Vivi there, if that's ok with you guys. FF6 favorite: Gau wasn't developed enough, but he had a great story. Has anyone
-------------------- Lou: There's a couple of guys fighting down at the aquarium, Chief. Wiggum: Do they still sell those frozen bananas? Lou: I think so. Wiggum: Let's roll. |

I would have to go with Shadow. Everyone had interesting stories, but I think Shadow's past, and his personality, were the most interesting.

Terra and Shadow, absolutely.
Terra was one of the central characters in the game, and I loved all of the plot twists surrounding her (mostly tragic) life. She's a girl of intrigue from the start, and as her tumultuous past comes to light with each passing step, you realize just how huge (and great) the game is. Shadow's the ultimate mystery man. He's got to be the definitive cool, cold-hearted anti-hero Final Fantasy character. Watching the dreams of his past were absolutely great, and he was a very well-developed character. His dark and tragic past makes him all the more interesting. -------------------- "I always have a quotation for everything - it saves original thinking." ~Dorothy L. I've never seen any of shadow's dreams, or known they existed, so i can't give him my vote.
I'll probably have to say Sabin's or Terra's. -------------------- The clouds ran away, opened up the sky And one by one I watched every constellation die And there I was frozen, standing in my backyard Face to face, eye to eye, staring at the last star I should've known, walked all the way home To find that she wasn't here, I'm still all alone -Atmosphere "Always Coming Back Home to You" |

Mine used to be Terra, but now my favorite storyline characters are Cyan (yaaaay Cyan!) and Celes. Oh, and Edgar (yaaaay Edgar!). I love Cyan because he's aging and he knows it and he's seen a lot of suffering and his whole world gets taken away but he keeps on living and finds strength to not only survive, but to flourish and rediscover life. And anyways he's nice to Gau ::hugs Cyan::
Celes is great because she's much more insecure than Terra but she tries to hide it and she comes across as very human and believable. Edgar is the same - he has a lot of responsibilities and worries but he always manages to treat them lightly in front of others. Yay for Cyan :) -------------------- "Turd-cookies!...they're hot and soft, though..." Terra is my definite favorite character story-wise. I always found myself feeling bad for her and hoping she'd get over her problems and watching her grow more and more as a character throughout the game, was really cool. I've seen few characters in games develop more than her in all the stuff I've played.

i liked Setzer. He was a gambler and a pilot who seemed like he had it all and didn't give a hoot bout nothing. But then you realized that he had lost someone dear to him in the past. It brings a tear to your eye ;_;

Most virile young kings throughout history tended to be maniacal tyrants, on a massive ego/power trip as they raise taxes, conscript troops, and all those other things tyrannical young kings do.
Edgar Figaro, however, is just the opposite. Instead of sending a bunch of men to die fighting the empire, he does it himself, risking life and limb for the safety and freedom of his lands. Plus his finesse with the ladies *besides his fellow Returners, that is* would make Mick Jagger look like a withered old sack of crap. -------------------- "Nothing exists, but atoms and the void" -Democritus |

I have always enjoyed Shadow's storyline, simply because of the obvious reasons: He's a badass antihero with a mysterious and tragic past.
But when I think about it, no one has as mysterious a past as Gogo. I mean, you don't know nothin' about the guy, and you never do! You never even find out if he IS a guy or not! ![]() I choose Gogo the one who actually has the least to do with the storyline. -------------------- *END TRANSMISSION* |

It's pretty easy for me. Gau. Let's break it down. The only characters not to have a tragic background story are Strago & Umaro. Although I guess w/ Umaro it is kinda tragic as he is the last of his kind...
I like Gau in terms of story more because of it's simplicity. A boy abandoned by his father because he was 'different'. Surviving in the Veldt for 10 years, he is finally reunited with his father only to be rejected once more. And yet in the face of this:
If that doesn't melt your heart, then you're a cold b*$^%}d. There is an underlying theme with most of them that made me choose Gau. Each seems to be stories of tragedy come redemption, with a fruity twist that makes them all different. Relm may be the only exception, but we never glimpse at her past. Second would be Cyan. A man who is getting past his prime by all rights should have been able to relax after so many years of toil and service, and settle with his growing family. After they are cruely taken from him, he must once again fight. And yet, after fostering feelings of revenge and self-loathing, he is able to redeem himself and become a mighty instrument of justice. Of all the stories of tragedy/redemption, Cyan is the most poignant. The rest are equally as good. FFVI has the best character building of any of the SNES RPGs. But, in saying all this, Gau and Cyan rise to the top for me IMO. K, cya later. Regroovinator. -------------------- ------------------------------------------- Just done it - Niko. Where did I go today? - Microshaft. Good times...really good times - Cok(ain)e. ------------------------------------------- |

For me it's Terra. Call it unnatural but there is something inside me that speaks Emperor Gesthal's head on a platter after seeing what he did to Terra and her parents. My feelings rarely get stirred in a Video game(because its entertainment), but Terra was an exception. Here's a girl who is satisfied when she finds she is needed. As much as I don't want to get totally attached to someone, I understand where the poor girl is coming from. All those years of torture lead for the need of emotional support. Which is what she got from the Returners and General Leo. I really felt good inside after reading what Leo told her.
Game wise Terra's magical abilities make her a necessity. She is more offensive as a magic user while Celes is more defensive(runic). Plus Terra looks good in her Esper form. She has Ultima which is my favourite spell of all time. She can wield the strongest weapons in the game. I always give her the Atma Weapon. And all the cool relics. |

You're wrong. Rydia from FF4. And a dozen anime characters that come to my mind. I think my favorite would be Locke's. Watching that heart-breaking cutscenes from his memories... so sad... Actually, first time a video game made my eyes water. |
