Argh! Computer death
Journal Entry: Mon Oct 4, 2004, 1:33 PM
Bad stuffs in computerland. I started up my computer this morning and when it started showing my desktop, it immediately went into a GPF (blue screen o' death). I repeated that twice, and went into troubleshooting mode (yay for me..). I went into Safe Mode and made an educated guess as to which driver was causing the problem and disabled it. I started up again and it was okay. I'm going to have to take it in though, to get the issue fully resolved. So, for the time being, I'm only going to have my old computer (P-166, Win95). This means: no scanning, no Photoshop, no digital photgraphy. The only thing in the way of graphics programs on my old computer is an ancient copy of Paint Shop Pro and MS Pain(t)! You most likely will not be seeing any new artwork from me in the near future.

(taken from my DeviantArt journal)

I feel that maybe this should be posted in "Site Submission", but since I'm not submitting anything, I guess I can't. I am really, really upset by what happened. A big part of my online and computer time was spent doing art and submitting art to numerous places (including CoN). This is a big part of my self expression to be doing that. In addition to my fanart, I also use it for my professional obligations. Now, I have at least one client that 'wants to get together' (urgh). The good part of the whole mess is that I was able to make backup copies of what I have already done onto CDs. Unfortunaly, Hamster's (old P-166) CD rom drive died long ago and I never did invest more money into the fossil. I do have some things that I have yet to submit that are hanging around on my HD, but they're not really great for the most part.

I guess I can just add this to my growing mound of problems (not working, no money, car needs to be fixed, can't pay my insurace for car). I don't think normally I would be as flustered over something like this, but it's like the straw that broke the camel's back. I am really, really not happy.

My condolences. I wish you the best with this cluster-problem.

Of course 95% of that CPU stuff was over my head, and I can't relate much because I don't even have my own computer, but I hope it works out.

Maybe one of your friends will hook you up with some computer usage privileges. (nearing the boundaries of Moochdom perchance)

Seeing as you have a backup, and it was just a blue screen of death, it sounds like you could simply have somebody reinstall Windows. Of course if it was a hardware problem that does require money to fix, unless it's under warranty. sad.gif

I hope that you can get it working again soon, despite any difficulties!

I think I would go freaking nuts if I computer stopped working, and I can only imagine how much frustration it would give you. Behind you all the way in these troubled hours, Kame smile.gif

Yeah having your main computer not working is a very bad and stressful situation. It's as if a part of you is dead. Hey Kame send your computer to me and I'll fix it. tongue.gif Nah, that would take too long. It sounds like all you need to do is reformat the boot drive or just reload windows. Do you have a Windows CD? It's a pretty simple procedure that would save you some money. By now you've probably sent it in though. Well it's probably not a hardware problem so it shouldn't cost too much to fix. I hope you're up and running again soon.
