For the next month or so across Canada, and all across the states, runs are being held to help raise money and awareness for Breast Cancer research. I'm participating in a 5k run in my province on Oct. 3rd, and I'm currently trying to raise 125$ Canadian for it (Yes, yes, I know what you're thinking. "So that's 3 cents American, right?" It's a tired joke. And it's actually 98$ American, and 54 in British Pounds)
Is anyone else planning on being in the Run for the Cure? Oh, and if anyone wishes to sponsor me, just leave me a PM and I can send you an email form for the donation. You can donate as little as 5$, I believe, and it goes directly to them, but tracks it as being donated to sponsor me. I don't have anyone in my family or circle of friends who has either died from or survived breast cancer, but if anyone wants to start a discussion on it here, that would be fine. -------------------- I had an old signature. I live out in the northeastern corner of Montana, twenty miles from Canada and North Dakota, and its primarily a remote place so nothing very exciting comes out here.
I might consider if it were, thought I'm not too sure it would help my back in its recovery. =/ -------------------- It's gonna be a glorious day I feel my luck can change |

I've already run in one, I think, but it doesn't seem to run the same way as yours (No pun intended). You just paid to get a number, and you ran (You got free food also). Then again it was in a pretty small town to the south of where I live, so maybe it's different.
Well, I ran the 5k while my dad ran the 10k. It turned out to be pretty fun, but don't ask me what my time was, it's just too embarrasing.. >_> -------------------- "We're not tools of the government or anyone else. i was just talking to my sis about it. hers was a walk for the cure. they did 60k in 2 over 2 days. so they walked 30k, then stayed in hotels or whatever, then walked 30k the next day. and the minimum to raise was 2000, or they didn't walk. some girl who already had breast cancer apparently raised like 30000 or something insane like that.

Walking 30k? Geez. That would take me about... 2 hours and 42 minutes to run, assuming I could keep up my pace for that long. How long did it take her to walk one of those 30k?

Fighting breast cancer is a worthwhile cause and I encourage everyone who can to participate. Elena, PM the info and I'll donate.
On a sidenote: I will be participating in an AIDS walk in mid-october, if anyone has interest in participating in that charity as well, I will post information. -------------------- "That Light has bestowed upon me the greatest black magic!" |

I usually run in the 'Relay for Life.' I'm not sure on the details of this relay, all I know is that I join a team (usually the local sheriff's department) and run until I can't run anymore. I assume 'Relay for Life' is in other states...?
Elena, PM me and I'm sure I can donate some money. ![]() You too, Ancient. ![]() This post has been edited by MathNo.2 on 27th September 2004 00:25 -------------------- You know. I think you're a very special unit. |

I have no source of income, but someday when I do once more, I will likely give to a noble goal such as those mentioned.
Good luck on the run! Remember to stretch! ![]() |

Hmm. Yes, you can do it that way, and then I can put it in there myself, that's not a problem. My paypal email is [email protected].
Thanks a lot. :-) Edit: My paypal account was under an old address, so if you tried and failed under that above address, try again now. It's fixed. This post has been edited by Elena99 on 27th September 2004 17:59 -------------------- I had an old signature. Now I've changed it. |

i don't remember exactly how long it took them. i remember it being somewhere uip around 6 hours though. on the second day they only walked 23k because it was pouring rain so the conditions weren't safe. it was funny cause my mom was all worried, telling her to only walk like 10k each day and stuff. then she did the whole thing haha but it was cool. there were like 800 something girls there and like 5 guys.

Today was race day, and it went well despite the rain. I raised my goal of $125, and I wanted to thank, again, the members of CoN who supported me.
I did my 5K in about 30 minutes, but that's with 2-5 minutes at the start trying to get through the mass of walkers before I could run. -------------------- I had an old signature. Now I've changed it. |

Hmm, not particularly. There was a large room with buffet tables set up with bananas, bagels and yogurt, as well as many containers with ice and water bottles. I guess that was the celebration. :-) I'm sure other people did things.

For my area, there were 2,200 runners and $151,000 raised, which I think is quite good considering how small this province is. Both of those numbers are up from last year.
Here are the stats for country-wide: 170,000 runners and $19.2 million raised. This is also noted as being a record. :-) I'm waiting for the photo gallery to come up now, I'll post a picture if they happened to have caught me. Oh, the biggest area of participation seems to be Toronto (biggest city in Canada), 30,000 runners and $3,713,642 raised. I wonder why they round off Canada, and PEI, but not Toronto. Or maybe it's not rounded off, and it's just a coincidentally round number. -------------------- I had an old signature. Now I've changed it. |
