I'm making a Final Fantasy IV hack that swaps Cecil with Golbez (and gives you some of Golbez's moves!)... I have everything in place, except that I need to change the 'toad' map sprite to Golbez's map sprite, and am wondering if anyone would be able to do this. Thanks!

Why couldn't you just change Cecil's map sprite to Golbez's? Either way, you don't really need a graphics artist to help you with that, since Golbez already has a map sprite. All you have to do is find it in the ROM, which shouldn't be too difficult, and then copy it into whatever map sprite you want it to replace. I suggest using Tile Layer Pro for this, if you don't already have a generic SNES sprite editor. The only problem I can see, though, would be if the palette of Golbez's sprite didn't match that of Cecil's sprite, which I can't imagine it doing.

I've tried; the map sprites are ridiculously hard to find. That's why I was asking for help.

Hahaha I am a genious!
< _ < > _ > Ok, maybe not, but here we go: I found the map sprites in the ROM. It would seem that 3bpp format is definitely your friend when it comes to this ROM. Not only are the map sprites in 3bpp format, but the menu portraits, some enemies, and a vast number of overworld tiles are, as well. Not a bad find for searching for only a few minutes. Anyways, back to the map sprites. You were right, they were tricky to find, but the only thing you need is the right palette and format when searching through the ROM. So, I would reccommend using Tile Layer Pro for this. The map sprites begin at ~$D8208, and Golbez's sprites being at ~$DD180. If you're using TLP, switch it to 3bpp under View:Format. There's alos a palette window in tlp at the bottom...you have to drag it into the mains creen for it to be of any use. Just click the up arrow either 3 or 6 times. Those are the palettes I found to be useful when looking through the ROM. Hope this helps! This post has been edited by Caesar on 18th October 2004 00:49 -------------------- Is PJ |

Excellent. . . I was able to change all of the sprites thanks to you! But, there is a palette problem. Any suggestions on how to change the palette? Is there something that works like NESticle's palette editor, for SNES?

There are three options I can think of:
1) Find where the palette info is in the ROM 2) Make Cecil's palette work with Golbez 3) Make Golbez into a different character with a more suitable palette. Other than those, I have no ideas. -------------------- Is PJ |

I'm definitely going for option 1.... but I don't know how to find the palette info in a ROM, or what to do with it afterwards. Hopefully someone else knows.
