Well, I finally did it. I managed to get twenty pairs of Dragoon Boots and twenty Dragon Horns, and can begin my 'Dragoon Challenge.' Thanks to everyone who helped me get there, and put up with my uselessness. Incase you haven't guessed, my challenge involves equipping every character with a pair of Dragoon Boots, a Dragon Horn, and using nothing but Jump during the entire game.
The Rules: The Golden Rule - No command other than Jump may be issued in battle. This also goes for the first turn of battle, when Jump must be issued. No other Relic must ever be equipped, and the two Relics must be equipped immediately once a character is obtained. In certain battles, certain attacks must be used, or Jump is unusable. These sections will play out as if it was a normal run-through. Off the top of my head, these include: Any Magitek Armour sections, Vargas, and obtaining Gau. Allowing a character be hit with a status effect such as Berserk is WRONG, as they would cease Jumping. Magic can and will be learned, as so it can be used out of battle. The Colloseum can be used, but no other Relics can be equipped. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING must be done. This includes the Tower of Magic, all side-quests, side-bosses, secret characters, everything. I'm not sure if desperation attacks are possible whilst continually jumping, but if they are, I can't help them being used. That's about it. Updates will be posted, well, whenever. Between FFXI sessions, I suppose. Here's the first update! (I will be indicating levels with abbreviations such as L9, meaning Locke was at level 9.) Whelk - Magitek armour can't Jump. Marshall & Lobos - Locke Jumped, whilst the the Moogles attacked. M-TekArmr (E9, L8, T7) - First real battle. Can you guess how it went? Yeah. Jump, Jump, Jump. Sit back and watch everything die. Vargas (E11, L10, T10) Jumped until Sabin arrived, then a quick Pummel. Ultros (E13, S13, T12, B9) Two rounds of Jumping did it. Banon defended, and left the battle on 50 hp. Jump will be used when Berserked, together with Fight. It's 50 % thing in this case.

Thanks for that. Another thing I didn't count on - Interceptor. First hit in the Phantom Train battle, countered by Interceptor. Levels - S14, Sh14, C15. Rizopas was pretty easy, too, levels - S14, C15. Then there's Gau, lacking the fight command 'n all. I decided to kill him off. So far, this has been pretty easy.

Fanatics tower might be a touch hard, since you can't really use the jump command there.

I hope you didn't actually count on a challenge here. This would have been slightly challenging without the Dragon Horn, but not too....you just gave an overpowered relic to everybody in the very beginning of the game.
Anyway, should you want to continue, I advise against using the Tempest as it will cause a dissappearance glitch when it uses Wind Slash on the initial strike. Also note that when all character are in the air and the enemy uses Launcher, a different dissappearance glitch occurs. You know what, just read ZED's Guide if you haven't, Run a Ctrl + F for Jump and you'll know what to not do. -------------------- |

Nah, I didn't really figure it'd be overly challenging. As for the Fanatics' Tower (Yeah, I forgot its' name) My plan is to have Gogo, give him the Fight command and appropriate relics. Thanks for the tips, by the way.

For Interceptor, make the DragoonBoots removing the "Interceptor" status so Shadow won't counter with his dog.

Ah. I heard if you give Gogo Fight, he can still use it. My mistake.

Why twenty? There are only 14 characters.
Can Umaro and Gau equip and properly use them? -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

Quote (Dark Paladin @ 4th October 2004 17:44) Can Umaro and Gau equip and properly use them? Gau can (though DragoonBoots do nothing for him), but Umaro cannot. That's awfully weird too for Umaro since, as an enemy, he can Jump. ![]() -------------------- |

All characters Jump? I'm willing to place a bet that with a single Palidor, and the Atma Weapon, Valiantknife, Fixed Dice and something like the Pearl Rod, you'll kill everything in one go. I use these examples because the first three pierces defense (which is crazy on the Fanatics Tower), and the fourth one because there weren't any left that actually did something remotely useful (Dice down my trousers, I say), and the Pearl Rod has the random Pearl going for it.

Don't know why I got 20, really. I scrolled down, and I think 20 was the first number I saw. I wasn't planning on using Gau or Umaro, really, as much as I like Gau.
