I choose Sephiroth at my time of joining, simply because I wanted someone badass to have as an avatar, and you really don't get much more badass than Sephiroth and seeing as how this one is cooler than his mugshot, I went with the blade.

I've had the Sephiroth avatar since I joined, back in 2001, and it just wouldn't feel right to switch it to anything else now.

Well, I took a Red Mage as my current Av due to a slight chat joke, saying I was the Red Mage (from 8-Bit Theatre) of Warhammer 40,000 for my constant mentions of it and 40k-style stats...

I think that'll be the most common causes: looks cool, or some sort of in-joke...

Oh yeah, I also did unofficial Warhammer 40,000 rules for using a variety of 8-bit theatre armies! Despite the fact that conventional wisdom would use ordinary Warhammers rules, but meh, i dont like swords and sorcery over guns and psychic powers... I gotta convert me a red psyker model

Aye, Sephy is a great avatar. I have played around with other stuf, but nothing feels right other than Gau. A really interesting thing about Gau is he is the only character with a 3/4 topdown mugshot- everone else is either profile or face.

Well.. at first I went with Sephiroth to fit the name but providing the fact that I like Cecil probably better than any other charcter in the FF series I went with this one... his Dark Knight full body pic. was ok (since I didn't like the "mugshot" as DF put it) but I just like the Paladin picture better for some reason.

Djibriel has accused me of having an 'old guy avatar fetish.' I switch from one old guy to another when I get bored of the current one. The current avatar was suggested to me by Kame, so I took it. I'll probably settle back on the Crono Trigger 'Elder' eventually; He just fits.

well first i started with a setzer one because setzer is my favorite FF character and then when i has the "cactuar" title i changed my avatar to a cactuar and decided that whatever my title was i would choose an avatar remotely related to that title and so when i got treasure hunter it was locke and then i hit crusader and since in my opinion magus was kind of a crusader (and being from a time in chrono trigger that would probably be known as the crusades), and i have stuck with it. seeing this topic i noticed that since i became a magitek soldier i have not changed it, and seeing as though i have become slightly attached to this avator and cuz the only choices based on my system, the only other two choices would be terra or celes (neither character i really like) and so since magus was born with the ability to use magic he is kind of a magitek soldier, so i shall keep it til i reach Red Wing Pilot, which is when i shall change it to the dark knight cecil menu pic.

Well, I'm back to the avatar I originally started out with back in December of 2002. She's Mag from the Magus Sisters that you fight in FFIV's Tower of Zot. I'm not sure what attracted me to her, other than her scythe. I feel she just fits. I usually pick either a female avatar or a gender neutral one.

I use this FF1 PS1 Tiamat icon just because I like it. I've yet to see anyone (who stays here) take it, and I wanted to have one that no one else had used before. Plus, I really enjoy FF1 since it was the earliest game I remember playing. Tiamat was also one of my favorite monsters. Since I wanted a FF1 avatar, I thought the PS1 Tiamat looked better than the NES tiamat, so I picked it.

I picked Calbrena because, in all honesty, who doesn't love an evil doll made up of multiple smaller, evil dolls. Especially if said doll has its own eerie circus for its battle?

I was trying to go for something original and unused, and at the time and as much as I had checked no one had used this Wedge/Biggs avatar from FF6. So...

setzer is just so kickass. since i joined in 2002, ive always had a setzer sprite of some sort as my avatar, and dont plan on using anyone else. setzer rocks.

I originally had the laughing Gau avatar, with regards to my nick. I changed to this one when turning 25, to age myself a little bit . Iain told me in chat that my choice finally convinced him to go with the scholar avatar, since he hesitated between the two of them.

I originally picked the Alexandr sprite, but I found it to be too large and flashy after a while. You know how it goes with newbies like I was at the time: a bad need to make an entrance and therefore picking the largest and most obnoxious of the bunch they can find.

I picked Ragnarok because it was the most simple avatar CoN provides, and I didn't want to have no avatar at all. I've thought about switching a few times but I really can't find a better one then the Ragnarok sprite.
