The item duping works for any weapon stronger than the stuff you can buy in store.

The all free duping trick involves equiping the weapon you want to dupe, a shield in the other hand (preferably the strongest available) and the best equipment available for the class (this is to save up some time). Go to a shop, select the "Try it on" feature, and replace the shield with a random weapon. Now hit the "Best Fit" feature : if you did it right, your setup will be the same as when you entered the shop (this is why you want the best equipment : when you hit the "Best Fit" button, nothing will be replaced in the armor part of the equipment, saving you some time as you don't have to "Quit Fitting" for it). Just exit the "Try it on" menu and go back to the main shop menu : the weapon is now duplicated. Note that shields can also be duped with this trick, by replacing the weapon equiped with a random shield (free Escutcheon 2....).

Basically, for rare items, it means that you can dupe :
Knight Swords : any, as they are all stronger than regular swords.
Katanas : Masamune and Chirijiraden
Knives : Zorlin Shape
Hammers : Scorpion Tail
Spears : Holy Lance, Dragon Whisker, Javelin II
Staves : Sage Staff (I know, you can't duplicate the Mace of Zeus, because it's equal in power to the Gold Staff...)
Rods : Dragon Rod, Faith Rod
Ninja Swords : Sasuke Knife, Iga Knife, Koga Knife (these particular swords are not dupable with the common ninja, because ninjas can also equip Flails, and the Morning Star sold in shops is stonger than every Ninja Sword. You'll have to use Orlandu to perform the trick, as he can equip Ninja Swords in his Holy Swordsman job but not hammers)
Shields : Kaiser Plate, Venetian Shield, Escutcheon II

I think it's covered for the most, except for two hands only weapons (I haven't tried it yet for any of these). Ask again if you have other questions.
