I know this sounds kind of dumb, but how do rafa and malak's skills work. Does rafa's work well on people with high brave or low faith and malak's is the exact opposite or am I totally missing the fact that it is some huge formula that hopefully one of you knows? Anyways, thanks if you can tell me.

From my experience, Rafa's skill works just like any magic, except that Faith doesn't seem to be a factor : I used a Faith Rod with her once, but she didn't seem to do more damage than before. Equipment that raise MA works though, so my guess would be that the Truth skillset depends on the caster's MA, and possibly on the target's Faith (Zodiac affinity works as it should).
As far as Untruth works, I can only guess that it works the exact opposite of any magic skillset : it does more damage if Malak has a low Faith, and if the target has a low faith too. However, it also does more damage if Malak's MA is high, so it's not the exact opposite. Like for Rafa's skillset, Zodiac affinity works the right way. Also, I didn't see any difference when tweaking with their respective Brave, so feel free to raise or lower it any way you want. |

Rafa's skills deal more damage with lower Brave, and Malak's skills deal more damage with lower Faith. If you notice when you first get them, Rafa starts with something like 37 Brave and 70 Faith, and Malak starts with 70 Brave and 37 Faith. Rafa's skills are not affected by Faith in any way (unless by normal magic calculations; Brave then being a modifier), and Malak's skills are not affected in any way by Brave.

both of their skills are also quadratic in MA, making them potentially the most powerful abilities in the game.

Also, concerning Malak, inflicting Innocent on him to give him zero faith will render him unable to cast spells or use Un-Truth. That sounds retarded, because with Un-Truth the lower the faith the better, but that's the way it is.

I say Malak he's better than Rafa anyway she's weak...except her low brave makes it easier for me to find
Possible spoilers: highlight to view treasures at Deep Dungeon... Malak's good with only one thing & Rafa's good at one thing... kinda makes it even...except I pick Malak... ![]() -------------------- Auron might be good, but I'm better...=p* My first visits....: *Returning from home-Returner *Trying to find a Cactuar Costume for Halloween-Cactuar *Treasure hunting for more shiny things, & candy-Treasure Hunter Current Location: *Crusading hell, I want to assasinate Satan but don't tell him what my plan is okay....?-Crusader |

Malak's is basically the opposite of regular magic meaning more damage is dealt when he and the enemy have lower faith. If you talk to them on the characer screen they will tell you this...and it is correct. -------------------- "That Light has bestowed upon me the greatest black magic!" |

Well, I cannot thank you all enough, I shall put this to good use as I have had this game since it came out and I worked my butt off to get it, I've played through it multiple games with 100+ hours and I'm going to use Rafa and Malak for basically the first time. A friend told me they sucked, but I kinda like 'em. Anyways, always a pleasure doing business with fellow Tactics fans.

Malak pretty much does suck. Rafa's magic is potentially the most powerful magic in the game. If you like risk that is. Even if you don't like truth, she makes a pretty good magic user.

I always thought her moves did more damage if her Brave was low. She does start with opposite Brave/Faith as Malak, which would imply that this was the case. Maybe it was supposed to work that way, but ended up not working due to a glitch. -------------------- --sbq92 <>< |

I don't use their normal skills in a fight.
Rafa did make a good magic user and let her know black magic, summons, and white magic. and sometimes with any kind of jobs wish she becomes. right now she's chemist. she can be good in many ways if you trained her right. and as for Malak, I didn't find a use for him yet. but altho, he might look like he can be a good Monk tho. |

I think Rafa and Malak's damage formulas work as intended; their Br/Fa being opposites are quite probably just an outward indicator of their opposite natures.
Rafa can be surprisingly useful when she's a guest. After watching what she can do with Defend at Riovanes Gate, I changed my opinion on its usefulness... |

The only use I have for Rafa is to stick her in the Chemist class to learn Move-Find Item, then bust her Brave down to 10 with Beowulf since her Brave is low when you get her, anyways. (i'm thinking it's in the 30's, but I can't remember)
Then, she's my little treasure hunter in the Deep Dungeon. Malak... well... he never gets any playing time on my teams. The game designers could have made "Hell Knight" such a cool class, if they had wanted to.... *sigh* -------------------- Join the Army, see the world, meet interesting people - and kill them. ~Pacifist Badge, 1978 |
