I say we petition Webster's in order to get that definition into the dictionary.  :p You forgot to describe how it looks like, though...

Hmmm...wonder if they can use their wings to fly? They seem a little too tiny to carry the whole body weight. Perhaps it's a body part that has been decreased during evolution?  :E

Well there's some truth there. The moglies don't really use their wings to fly anymore,as the magical powers of the pom pom on their heads is quite enough to lift them. The wings just stayed there, devolved and useless, but there.Kinda the same deal as with humans and the tail bone(or whatever you might call it in english).

Why must you know what a moogle is? A moogle is a moogle, lets leave it at that, okay? lets not get into a phylisophical debate about what a moogle is, same with the chocobo, noone knows why they made it they are just what they are! okay?! Alright!!! thank you for your time...

I like the SoM moogles better than the Final Fantasy ones, especially when you can turn yourself into a baby moogle with the items and walk around like that.   :E

I guess I always figured that they started from teddy bear and added features.

My boyfriend once convinced one of our friends that moogles were small, furry animals that were a cross between rabbits and bears and lived in the mountains near Nepal.  Try that one sometime.

A MOOGLE IS A MOOGLE, NOT A CROSS OF ANYTHING, IT IS A MOOGLE, JUST LIKE THE CHOCOBO, ITS A CHOCOBO, NOT A CROSS OF ANYTHING, THEY ARE MADE UP BEINGS, THAT ARE WHAT THEY ARE, NOT CROSSES FROM A TEDDY BEAR TO A PIG!!!!SO DROP THE BLOODY SUBJECT!!! I apologize for the anger...it's just annoying that you all think a Moogle was a pig and a bat fused into one thing...GRR!!!

Naturally, you are entitled to your own opinion, even if it's wrong.   :E

Just kidding.  I like the Final Fantasy moogles, too.  I just think the different colored wings are great, and, like I said, being able to assume moogle form at will is a big plus!   <3

Moogles are wonderful cheery unobtrusive helpful affectionate little white fuzzy things.  They remind us that even the big important dramatic warlike FF world is still partially interdependent with a cute goofy little inexplicable thing that is unsurprisingly reminiscent of the polite Japanese culture when compared with all of the human characters who make their problems and personal matters known to us by being the main characters.  Moogles are the most moogleriffic moglificational pom-pomalized bat-wingish mogriferous mogmoogelemogmogs in the entire mogging world!

I think moogles are cool, because they look so frail and innocent, and then they are also super strong. Imagine if some hunter would like to get moogle skin to sell in a shop or something, he would go down into the Narshe mines, and then he would get his ass kicked by the moogles.

Yeah, I generally think that things are dumb when they're "retarted", too.

And moogles weren't a cameo in SoM.  They were a status ailment.   :E

Anyone else remeber an ad in magazines when FF3/6 came out for SNES of Mog surrounded by big baddies whit a caption 'It seems sometimes that life isn't fair' then on the next page the badies are piles of dust with Mog leaning on a huge sword and the caption 'Life ain't fair'.

One thing I've always wondered: Have moogles got fur? Or is their skin "naked", you know like whales? In Secret Of Mana, they look a little furry, but in FFVI and FFVII they seem to be missing it.

I thought they usually showed a little bit of fur in the outlines in later pictures, too, but I don't have any proof to back that up.  ^_^

I didn't think they looked furry in SoM, though.   :p

ive looked up on stuff like this before. heres the rundown of the Moogle/Chocobo questions

Chocobo- A mythological bird capable of running quickly, as a messenger to gods

Moogle- An intelegent creature that's wings are only able to fly during mating time. They are basically unknown as far as origins, other that the tentacle allows telecommunication (MiNd TaLk!!)

they are furry, and btw, SOM's creators are the same as FF series if you didnt notice, hence the SOM moogles. square found about the two and decided they needed a fast runner and a cute thing in the games.  :E

Little history for ya: Moogles first appeared in FF3j, ascompanions and servants to Dorga - Keeper of the Power of Magic. Back then they were still able to talk (all of them!) and didn't have pompon's (those came up in FF6). The question: "What is a moogle?" I answer: "A Moogle(Mooglis Mooglis) is a cute, white, furry magical creature. Mess with moogles, and ya mess with me!"

That and the moles from FF2 look just like moogles, so they could be a predecessor.
Moogles are "Mogli" in the Japanese versions, and it is supposed to be a combination of the Japanese words for "mole" and "bat".
Kind of pointless to point this out though, since this arguement wore itself out a long time ago.

A moogle is the same as a pokemon, a totally failed attempt trying to make a cute creature (i think even chupon is cuter then moogles :S).

What... did you just say the "P" word?! Moogle must never be within fifty words of the word Pokemon. It's written in the FF6 manual... somewhere... with some special type of ink.

A moogle must therefore be a small, white, cute, furry creature that resembles a mole, a bat, a cat, a koala, a pig, a teddy bear, a dog, and a bird. None of these characteristics can be considered predominant to the point where you can describe it as such, so we can therefore assume that Moogles are the derivative or source of all such animals previously described. Since they are master dancers and can even learn human-speak, one can wonder if... if... if... if... if HUMANS are derived from Moogles.

So... perhaps Moogles are the oldest species in existence!

(BTW, don't take me too seriously...  ^_^ )

I think that Moogles are a species very complicated to understand. It's not really clear where they fit in natural classification (especially if you look at every answers above  ).
What is clear however is that they are an endangered species : look at how many they are in the little cave of Narshe. It's sad, and it's even sadder in WoR, where there's actually only one moogle left. If all the FF games take place on the same planet (it could happen!), then Mog is the last one of his race. :shakeshead:

Perhaps you mean Hiryuu?

Which means flying dragon?

What was your point?
