Obviously the Japanese media puts a lot of focus on how well their athletes are doing, and so I often find myself rooting along with them. The women's Judo champion was quite impressive (lightest weight division, as I recall), but I suppose it's somewhat unsurprising for Japan to be winning in that sport.

Thus, one victory I was more surprised over was the Men's 100-meter Breaststroke, taken by Japan.

Yeah, I ran cross country and track all through high school and college.

Looking at the athletes, Jamaica might actually have a good chance in the 4X400. Only Calvin Harrison is back from the dominant Sydney 4X4 (although Angelo Taylor is back in the 400 Hurdles, but not running the relay.) I know all the young guys on the relay have split sub 45 seconds, and I think America is still the only country that can put 4 guys under 45, but they're a lot less experienced than Jamaica, so that might be a good race.

The 4X1 is pretty much on lock, barring a bad exchange. Maurice Green, John Capel, Shawn Crawford, and Darvis Patton all have Olympic experience and are among the fastest 100 runners in the world.

Paul Hamm's high bar performance is easily the most exciting Olympic moment I've ever seen off the track. Still, I can't wait for track to start tonight.

I was rooting for Kim Dae Eun in gymnastics. He got robbed.

And, what the heck, the japanese women's soccer team is going home, crap weasels is all I have to say about that.

Okay, after watching the 400 prelims, the 4X400 is even more of a lock than the 4X100. I knew Wariner was disgustingly good, but I didn't know Harris and Brew were that good, too. They should have no trouble at all putting a gold medal away.

How about the uncharacteristic class from Maurice Green last night after getting the Bronze Medal? Too bad Gaitlin and Crawford had to showboat in the semis. I was rooting for Asafa Powell, just so I could see someone win with some grace.

Gears, I was wrong about Jamaica. A complete underdog won the 100m dash. Gatlin. I saw him cross the finish line and my heart sort of did a hop-skip. I was expecting Asafa (Jamaica) to take it. Either him or Maurice Greene.

I'm actually happy Greene lost it. He is one hell of a cocky man.

The Argentinian Men's Soccer team is ridiculously good. They've outscored their opponents 16-0. They play the way a soccer team is supposed to, and that is rare. I have to vote for them in the Gold Medal game Saturday.

Ok guys whats with USA Baseball and why aren't they in the finals? Because how the hell does Australia get into the finals against Cuba. I always thought the USA would get to the finals against Cuba or Japan. But damn I'd like to know how my country is in the Finals?

USA is not fielding a baseball team, which would make it rather difficult for them to get into the finals.

Thanks Tidu. Still as far as basketball is concerned I reckon the finals should be for the silver and bronze and send the gold to the USA team in the mail.

You haven't watched much of the Olympics, have you? The American men's team sucks, and I for one couldn't be happier. Every team after 1992 has gone there thinking they're a dream team, and they are not. It makes me happy to see these guys get beaten.

They're still in it, and they could still medal. But are they going to beat Spain and then possibly Argentina to get into the gold medal game? Well, let's just say that their chances of doing both right now are probably as good as the US Men's Soccer team beating both of those countries in a row.

Maybe they'll pull it out, and I do always root in my heart of hearts for my home country. But I'm fine seeing these guys fail on the world stage again. Maybe it will give them some heart.

Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN?

Well being in Australia the events are live during the middle of the night and we see are Australian's during the day. So No I haven't watched much of the Olympics but I have followed basketball for a while and to see the USA not win gold will show me that puting a team of superstars use to leading a team on their own may not be a good idea. One top NBA team alone have good gold medal chances. I saw the USA play and few of them looked like they were even trying.

Did anyone else watch the women's hurdles yesterday? Poor Perdina of Canada hit the second one and fell right over. >_> She knocked over a woman from another country, too (was it Ireland?). Apparently, we sent 3 women to the olympics for hurdles with great expectations. Ah well.

i, for one, am personally glad that the cuban team has been performing so well in baseball. all that's left is to trounce australia once again, and another gold is theirs (anyone else find it interesting that cuba has more medlas than canada...?). but while the men were an embarassment, the us women's softball team was an absolute *monster.* i mean, my God, only ONE goal was scored against them throughout the ENTIRE procession of games...and that was in the final, by the equally-heralded australians. good show by our nation's women.

I saw that race, Elena. I felt really bad for her, but she's pretty young, so hopefully she'll come back in Beijing.

It's all over. Props to Russia for passing China in the medals-count, and over-all Phelps is the man of the games. I thought I would only watch gymnastics but I was glued to the bloody set almost every day. I never realized how much the games altogether rock.

I hope Beijing rocks too.

All the judge controversies were getting pretty sad, though. Is this becoming a tradition or something? I just about decided to go straight to Athens to punch out the judge who said Michael Phelps made an illegal turn, but luckily, I had no money. And then, they had to ruin the magic of the moment when Paul Hamm won the Singles Gymnastics All Around by having the Chinese contender complain about being cheated. All this really makes one wonder how valid some of these final scores are.

Well, my favorite part of the Olympics -- so far -- would have to be the Men's 100M Dash. That was the only event that excited me to the point where I jumped up and down in rage because Gatlin won. Props to him, though, for beating our arrogant previous Gold Medal-winner, Maurice Greene. That man, in all honesty, was emabarrasing the US. He says he is the best, and he will win Gold again. He was massacred by somewhat of an amateur and took Bronze.

Did anyone see the crazy guy who pushed the Brazilian Marathoner? I couldn't belive that something like that could happen. Poor fellow.

The closeing cerimonies were neat. I especialy liked the spiral of wheat. The blonde dancers in the shiney dresses were a little weird though, especialy since blonde greeks are exceptionaly rare.

I didn't watch more than 1 minute of the Olympics before going back to the computer. I don't know, I guess I'm don't care about my country winning. I'd rather play a sport than watch one and I rarely play sports.
