Yes.. And no..

All it matters is that you come well-prepared. Any RPG is applicable to that fact. Once you find out a weakness, you can exploit it by choosing your jobs and abilities strategically.

ok well I just started a ninja sccc single char single class yall know what Im talking about anyway, im at the ship graveyard at twelve weps are the knife I jacked from lenna and the dagger from faris. here is my summery so far:

wingraptor: level 8 two broadswords and hes down

karlaboss: level 10 used image to not get hit as ofter turns out it doesn't block corksrew so potions were necessary two swords and a few hits later hes down.

ship graveyard: were im at now level 12 killing things is hard hopefully I can fight siren at 17.

Ughhh does anybody have any strategies for time mage? I'm currently level 15 and have 350HP but Karlaboss just keeps on using his Tentacle and tailscrew which screws me over. Mass leveling wont help except for a small increase in damage. My dagger does around 80 damage and my Rod in the back row does 0.... And my dagger in the back row does 30 dmg.

the battle was incredibly easy since one battle beforehand someone dropped a fire scroll. she slows me i swithc rows and throw a broad sword she turns undead BAM!!. endead weakness to fire . . I love it.

This is almost as bad as my fight against dragon grass as a dragoon (still haven't beaten it)

here are the only tips I can give:

NO ARMOR
Stay in the back Row
only heal if your HP falls below fifty, no reason to waste potions
reroll that battle if he paralyzes corksrews and hits
Power Level

Just so you know I was 17 in Black Mage when i beat him

hopefully your using Zsnes or Snes9x so you can speed up gameplay.

Ninja was the easiest SSCC I've done. If you are ever in a bind(which is highly unlikey), go back a couple pages in the thread.

I'm currently starting out my challenge with my M.Knights.
I'm not crazy enough to try it with just one tho, FFVA would be painful to play in regular speed trying to lvl up just one character. It was painful enough that since I didn't have or use any cheats, I went into siren with 4 bares, and the strongest weapons I could get at that point in the game (3 broadswords and a flail) and the toughest part was I accidentally rushed into the canal, so I had my first encounter with Siren with 4 lvl 8 characters. And to use part of a quote by Pun-Master Akey from the gogo thread:

I wanna beat Shiva out of general principle first, but even now as M.Knights with fire spellblade, my characters aren't quick enough to set the spellblade and kill all of her guards before "dying an icy death of immense icyness."

This M.Knight thing seems fun. I would guess it's probably a decent way to break in to the single class challenges.

After not being able to beat this guy last time I started a black mage SSCC and saw power-leveling as my only alternative.
last night, I made a totally excellent discovery
Like all typical husbands Faltzer is prone to sleeping when asked to do work around the house. So I helped him out with a dose of Nyquil.



And to my Chagrin magic doesn't wake up your enemies.



I had to level up to level 23 to beat Garula, I might have been able to do it at 22 but I didn't try then.



Shattered an Ice Rod to kill liquid flame.



One Ice Rod for Ifrit



And two fire rods for Byblos



That's som helpful advice for a Solo Black Mage Mid, why didn't I think of not using magic.

-And of course now I'm on a lunch break.
Haven't attempted Sandworm yet.

Sandworm was easy, I went all out offense 3 ice rods, a hi-potion, and a bolt rod.
I only have 70 gil. I'm surprised that I'm running out of money. I'm going to find a place that begets small amounts of xp to gradualy collect money. i want to keep my level as low as possible.

Eh.. how do you shatter rods?

This is ontopic because I might be planning on doing a Black Mage SCC or others might - and we don't know what Cloud Strife is on about (unless it's obvious).

You can break the fir, ice, or bolt rods to cast the level 3 spells (or at least i think they are the level 3 spells)

have the weapon equipped
go to the item menu,
go up to view your weapons,
click on the rod twice

and Shaazam

more importantly tho, with the answer given, i'm in a huge bind!

I have 4 Mystic Knights that can't touch the hand-form liquid flame, and he won't change until i hurt him... and you see the problem.

I was just expecting to break a rod, but when I couldn't double-click them, I thought, well isn't this special?

So in an all M.Knight world, do I actually have to level until I can kill him in one hit?! Because he absolutely was not changing. I think he was actually

ANY help is completely appreciated.

Oh... and I continued onward to get fira, blizzara, and thundara... went back, and brought the hurt on shiva. So now I have a summon... for an M.Knight SCC...

I decided to do a single player Blue Mage. It seemed well rounded, equipping swords and shields, and I had 2 spells before I finished the wind shrine! The greatest perk will be the ability to break wands. That's what i'm looking forward to.

The only annoying part is... how do I keep everyone else dead? I'm sick of killing my party every time I need a heal (which is often to start out)

The hand is immune to magic, or so it seems.
You need to not use magic sword with one of your sorcerers and have him attack the hand form.

Currently after I beat Necrophobe on Black Mage, I'm thinking about doing solo Red Mage, Chemist, or Magic Knight.

There you have it. I just went into the ROM with a tile editor and set every single tile with any non-Butz character to just straight transparency. Took all of one minute to do. They can still take damage, as you see above, there's just no sprite there anymore.

I didn't have a clean ROM, and the only one I could find was in Japanese, but the offsets are the same. I used the patch on an English copy of the ROM, and nothing was changed except the transparency, so don't worry about it becoming Japenese or losing items or something silly like that. It doesn't hurt to make a backup before you use the patch anyways, though.

This patch was made to work with a file called "Final Fantasy 5.smc". If your ROM doesn't have that name, then just rename it, apply the patch, and then you can rename it back to whatever it was.

Well the patch works just like you said by making all characters transparent except Boots.
It was strange when i loaded my Faris SSCC, savestate and save file. all characters were transparent.

Um...I guess if you want I could make one tomorrow for each of the characters, but note that it will probably not be until later, because I have a math competition and a gov't project to take care of after school tomorrow.

So yeah... I've never realized how useful vampire really is.

And my mage HAS to be a rock star... I mean, who else can drink like that while they're blue in the face, and yet still continue the performance? Let alone the uncanny ability to fight off a half-dead chick who just wants to add you to her "List of people she's had." Also, due to the fact that I haven't gotten any new blue magic for awhile, he's really becoming a one-hit-wonder.

Only rockstars do all that.

if you want to make patches for Galuf/Krile, Lenna, and Faris. you can do it whenever you want.

Also Caesar I was just notifying you of a glitch that happened in my SSCC, loading a state with permanently dead Boots, and faris in the top slot results in all characters transparent.

For your blue mage SSCC, you'll find yourself primarily using Vampire and ????. Both deal excellent damage, and until you obtain the dancing knife you won't be able to learn White Wind, so Vampire is your only healing spell. Even in an SCC, I was almost always using those two attacks.

Hm. That's a strange glitch, CS. I didn't change anything except for the sprites, so it honestly shouldn't have done anything else. Simply a graphics hack. If you didn't make a backup, though, and you think that the patch was the problem, I could easily make an anti-patch to revert it to its original form. I really don't see how a graphics change would result in that, though.

SSCC update. I was level 23 and out of cash, so after making some dough I'm now at level 26 and almost have an airship.

Well I got a major landmark in my Black Mage's arsenal, I can now officially heal myself in battle.




Need for elixers -
First time, great having a magic user


Against the missile cannons I used a Thunder Rod and a cast of Bolt 2 (each battle) and let the flam cannons heal me afterwards, as I whittled them with Bolt 2.


And 7 Thunder Rods later I beat Soul Cannon

Question about Single player Challenge:

As a blue mage, I would also like to get as much of the magic as possible. Soon I will be encountering the pages with Lv 5 Doom.

My question is: Is there a way to earn the spell without waking up a dead comrade? (An auto life of sorts maybe?) OR Does it still count as a single player game if I use help getting the spell, and then kill off the character before completing the battle?

The solution for Galuf vs. Gilgamesh id the doom axe

There are two solutions for fork tower:
1) Level up another character, make him/her the same class and send him up the other tower
2) take off the permanent dead cheats and use all of the other characters (unleveled) anyway you want)

I go with the first option, because with only using Faris you also need to fight Antlion.

Now that being said, I'd believe it'd be fair to awaken any of other characters to be used as a dummy, they cannot be above level 3, and only one can be used.

I'll be kicking it's ass till it's starts using Claw, at that point I can't do anything. AA always uses claw before my ATB gauge fills.

Well I don't think a Lenna or Galuf/Krile solo is neccessarily possibly, there away for too many boss battles.(Gilgy and Antlion, can both be beaten by under-leveled characters). Titan, KimaBrain, Ouroboros, Mellusion, and not to mention all the pre-omegas in the earth temple, would be just too hard to do.

Note on B.Mage game: I managed to get "????" from a wolf. I was under the influence that the spell does damage equal to Max HP - Current HP. Against the wolves I learned it from, I noticed a LOT of fluctuation of damage values where the above math would not change. Is there still a random statement in the algorithm, or are some monsters less susceptable to it?

My Rock star totally cracked shiva over the head with a fire stick too. It wasn't as impressive as Cloud_Strife510's wand crackings, but a decent 2300 was acceptable for me. Shiva's understudies all dropped with stick one, and shiva dropped with stick two. It was really special. This Rock Star can thaw any Ice Queen.

Also, !Observe is an awesome second command for a single job game. Free Libra!

That's what itunes/youtube is for.

Claw is an attack that does mediocre damage, but resets the ATB gauge. Archeoavis keeps hitting me with it before i can do anything (his fourth form, the last before his resurrection)

Heh. I started a blue mage SCC (playing through V again for certain reasons.) So far so good - got to world 3. I'm highly disappointed that the sealed weapons are almost entirely useless to my characters. The assassin dagger's decent enough when it decides to kill stuff, but since the bulk of my damage outside of boss battles is with non-elemental spells, the rod is poop.

I was hoping I could get a decent sword. The Enhancer from the Cleft of Dimensions is really a blessing for my party though. I think I'll go fight Exdeath without bothering to get the rest of the weapons. Waste of time, really, and I have pretty much all of the Blue Magic spells anyways. What more could I need, save for a few more levels?

Everyone's around 35 right now. Easy as heck. I might try chemists next - it sounds like a really interesting class using !Mix and such. Maybe a SCJS with one... (the berserker SCJS I tried earlier in this thread went kaput against Exdeath at the end of world 2... even at level 99. :/)

Edit: I'm tempted to make a "challenge" hack sometime. Make all jobs accessible from the start. Maybe seal off the other 3 characters too. Dunno. But not at the moment.
