I'm in the mood to replay FF5. Which single class challenge should I do? I want something that will be a good challenge, and I am willing to try everything except Berserkers.

Right now, I am leaning toward bare.

Here's my half-baked review on the SCCs:

Bare: Fairly easy, but no fun tricks to abuse.
Knight: Some of the best weapons in the game.
Monk: Very high HP early on, relatively cheap on money, but that's about it.
Blue Mage: First two worlds are fairly difficult. Harder without the dancing dirk, but it has some of the best variety.
Thief: One of the toughest overall. Stealing just doesn't do damage.
Black Mage: Easy. Abuse fire rings and fire 3.
White Mage: Another tough one. Learn which weapons can dish out the most damage.
Berserker: EVIL at certain stages, but otherwise a piece of cake.
Sorcerer: Easier than Black Mage. Probably the easiest SCC.
Time Mage: Similar to White Mage, but comet helps eventually.
Summoner: Learn to abuse the !Call skill. Not too difficult, really.
Red Mage: Fairly difficult since they lack higher powered spells. Medium difficulty.
Trainer: Very unique, since you have to charge up everyone's captures before bosses.
Geomancer: Gets to use the underrated !Terrain ability, but bells are worthless.
Ninja: !Throw, 2-swords... no trouble here.
Bard: A good challenge. Undead enemies are easy to dismiss but the rest of the game can be much more difficult.
Hunter: Easy. Once you get !X-Fight, enemies go down quickly, before that you can rely on the !Animals skill to keep your back.
Samurai: Another very easy one. Even without !GP Toss this class takes down everything in its path.
Lancer: Thanks to the glitch, this one is easy, but without it, they can be pretty tough to use right. DragonSword just doesn't do much, but jumping is fun for evading attacks.
Dancer: Unreliably easy thanks to sword dance. Ribbons also help later on.
Chemist: Abuse mix. Abuse drink.
Mime: Tough, since you have nothing to mime.

My recommendations for Magicite are Hunter, Red Mage, Blue Mage, or Chemist.

Ninja SCC would be very fun, And once you reach world3 they're pretty much unstoppable, abusing throw from the back row. What a useful tactic.

It certainly looked easy from your screenshots. tongue.gif

Finished the first world. Anything I absolutely need to get before I go to the second world? I'll make an extra save just in case.

Edit: Level 1 Galuf to the rescue! tongue.gif

I didn't realize that trainer could only capture one monster at a time, pretty interesting, but I thought it was going to be more Gau esque, not neccessarily raged, but have at least one of every monster in stock. My break is still going to continue, then i'll go back to dragoon.

Magicite, what are you doing? You don't seem to be doing an SCC, because you have three thieves and (I'm not sure about this) a Trainer. Thieves don't have the Capture ability, and I'm confused. Are you doing a different challenge?

As for my Summoner SCC, i'm still stuck on Archeoavis. i'm sure if i level up enough, I'll be able to hit him hard enough to kill him after qa few rounds, it's just beating his first form that's harder.

I have four Thieves. Capture (AKA Mug) is a level 6 Thief ability that allows you to do damage and steal at the same time. I have not learned any non-Thief abilities.

Magicite, it's gonna really suck in the end for your thieves if you don't get them above level 70-80 each smile.gif

Oh and if you're planning on getting the Chicken Knife only use it with !Capture/!Mug because through that command there is a most likely 0% chance of having your party attempting to flee.

Running shoes are also pretty needy throughout the end too.

I got all the way to the end in my Thief SJC. Exdeath's White Hole is a bitch and Neo-Exdeath's so hard it's not funny lol..

Doesn't Bone Mail prevent petrification?

They've only beaten the Fire Ship, so their levels aren't that high yet. I'm not going to use the ChickenKnife trick.

Bone Mail gives the wearer all the strengths and weaknesses of the undead.

Yea it prevents petrification, but it also enables instant death by Holy and Fire 3. Ok, not really, but it hurts like you can't imagine. Bone Mail + Reflect Ring is good, but forget about healing that person; two Almagests or a Grand Cross or a solid Meteo will put you one man down permanently.

Because it effectively makes you undead, cure spells and items might hurt you in battle. (In most FF games, the undead are weak against cure, and Life/Phoenix Down cause instant death.)

Yea, I'm aware of that, as are most of the others in this thread. That's why I included that last sentence hinting that you can't ever heal that character if he's wearing reflect ring.

Yeah I experimented with that in my Ninja SSCC, and it was working until x-death cast comet, pretty much an instant kill.
I'm not sure if the final battle is doable in any of the SSCC's that I've done.

I'm currently working on a Solo Butz Solo Monk challenge. I've just landed on Zeza's fleet with Butz at level 43, having mastered Monk ages ago. It hasn't been too difficult so far, just getting stuck not at Sol Cannon, but at the rocket enemies you face right before him. Healing is annoying, but fortunately I'm at a point where I can buy Hi-Potions. It's been pretty fun so far.

Neal, why does your screen shot show Lenna as a level 0 Thief, while the other two dead characters are bare? If Lenna is level 1, you obviously haven't been using her, but I am curious.

Well, I've hit my second major snag with Solo Butz...Atomos keeps destroying my face, and I don't think there's anything I can do about it besides level up quite a bit. Fortunately he wastes the first few turns just sucking up my already dead party members, but I'm certainly not at the point where that's enough to kill him (level 47 now). So, it looks like I'll be fighting in the tower for a little while.

Do you have a savefile from before you landed on zeza's fleet?
because if you do, you could head over to fork tower and fight outside for more experience. I couldn't beat Atamos with my hunter until he was level 60, and my Ninja level 58.
also the enemies there drop elixers. Very handy in that fight.
the only real requirements that you need is over 3000 HP.
And if you can deal 2000(4000 total) damage with each punch, you won't have to heal at all against Atamos.

You can leave the barrier tower, so I don't need a savefile. But yeah, right now all I'm doing is just leveling and trying again each time I go up one.

That would be an incredibly annoying point if you couldn't, particularly on a single-character file...if I couldn't leave to restock on hi-potions, I'd have to revert to my pre-world2 save.

Well I beat Gilgy, and you won't believe how.
The jump glitch worked against a spell targeted at himself. Hast came up as ineffective. Made the battle easier. This happened on the first try after my break.

Where is Galuf? And Butz has a clone! I only named him Minwu because he sorta looks like him blush.gif Whats going on here, if i get to world 2 will Galuf be Butz? Although it will be funny if Butz talks to himself and acts like Galuf.
Edit
Yeah I know i'm not getting far in my SSCC im actually taking it really slow..

Edit
I'll go back and see if it's normal again

[EDIT]Ifrit was easy, although he took a few tries. I did around 1000 dmg each with Ice2 Sword, took 3 attacks but around 5 tries. Thank emulators for save states.

[EDIT]I used a tent but Butz#2 stays dead *yes i have death cheat on* strange....i hope the Gilgamesh fight wont be messy with Galufuser posted image

This is The big bridge, the battle where gilgy will cast haste armor and shell after you deal a certain amount of damage to him. And to my advantage the glitch made haste ineffective.
