Baulder's Gate 2 is a phenomenal RPG, and it's 20 bucks with the expansion. You could also look into Diablo 2, it's free to play online. Neverwinter Nights is in the same vein, but I didn't care for it as much. All three of these games tie in loosely (in the case of Diablo) or directly to Dungeons and Dragons, so it's typical party based magic-and-swords questing. Baulders Gate is unique in that it lets you control a party of 6 customizable (or standard) characters, which combines the traditional RPG with a bit of an "Age of Empires" feel. That's probably not at all accurate, but it's the only way I can describe it. It's addicting, though, and like I said, only $20 now to boot.
None of these are the "final fantasy type" RPG's, though. To the best of my knowledge, those aren't available on PC (save FFVII and VIII) and are actually refered to as console RPGs. The two types you tend to find for PC are MMORPGs (the ones where you pay monthly) and the kind I mentioned above, which I'm not sure what they're called. They are fun, though. And cheap. I suggest THe Elder ScrollsIII: Morrowind. Very open ended gameplay, lots of fun. Good ratings, seemingly endless quests. Hours of fun.

Neverwinter Nights, and its subsequent expansions. Not only is the core game excellent, but the toolset allows would-be storytellers around the world to make adventures of their own for everyone to enjoy. It's literally hundreds of games in one, which alone is well worth the price of admission. Should you pick it up, I suggest the Shadowlords and Dreamcatcher modules and the Way of the Open Fist module, all of which are available at the NW Vault website.

definetly have to agree with Baldurs GAte II for PC... and of course if you like those try out any other black isle RPG...
Ice Wind Dale, and Never Winter Nights come to mind.. Also TEmple OF Elemental Evil.. some peopel hated it i played it and thought the first patch was kind of buggy but if you go online download the new patch the bugs should go away.... There are a Lot of good D&D type RPG on computer.... including the first Baldurs gate, Baldurs GAte II, Ice Wind DAle, Ice wind DAle II.... not to mention all these games have expansions... these are all single player though... with the exception of Neverwinter Nights.. Actually i think you can play on GAme Spy but its pay.... and you said free right? what else is there on computer? hmmm Oregon Trail anybody?! ahh the good old times... Medievel Total WAr is sort of an RPG and if you like RPGs you should like Medievel one of my favorite games of all time.... well ive taken up enough of your time.... -------------------- "Isn't ramza a girls name?" -me i havent changed my avatar or anything in a long time! time for a change yall! |

Quote (Super Moogle @ 28th July 2004 23:55) Neverwinter Nights, and its subsequent expansions. I second that ![]() Wouldve been way more fun if only i hadnt lost my cd key for my expansion though, but the original's good enough. I find it sweet how you control so many aspects of your quest. Your character can be a thug or savior, revered hero or reputed villain, and this even has effects on how NPCs see you ,e.g. when you break into someones home and demand cash they'll give you a bit of gold, your alignment will shift towards evil, and they'll tell you to get the hell out and never talk to u again, whereas if you calmly ask them whether they need help with anything, they may send you out on a quest, which can range from anything between assasination to demon slaying. The story itself is good, too, and the gameplay is amazing. And like Super Moogle mentioned earlier, if you download mods for the game off the internet, try the Shadowlords/Dreamcatcher campaigns. Best modules ever made, IMO, including the new sequel, titled "Demon". Mundane as the name may be, the thing itself is amazing, and the creator added a nice touch in which you can transform into a demon at will.
